@@Plethora_of_Paucity I doubt it. When you study music, you get use to how songs have phrasing. I.e. Verses happening at 4 measure intervals. When you understand that, it's pretty easy to know when to pause on a first listen.
@@Plethora_of_Paucity Nah. As a musician I can tell where drops and changes are probably 99.9% of the time. Music follows a set of rules with time signatures and pacing.
If you watch someone who is really good at playing an instrument, for example, they can listen to a song for the first time and make pretty educated guesses of what will come next.
Hell there are videos on RUclips taking professional drummers from major bands listening to a song for the first time without a drum track and then making up their own. Most of the time it is pretty close to the original.
The title of the song comes from the name of Grandpa Munster's car, DRAG-U-LA, on the classic TV show The Munsters, which ran from 1964-1966. The car was built around a coffin
And which Rob Zombie remade recently, he's a big fan.
The car in this video is also from the the show, the Munster Koach, which - along with Dragula - was designed and created by the legendary George Barris.

It takes me back to my allnighters at Rock City ( Nottingham) in the 90s/ early 00's even if I was dead on my feet from working my minimum wage job allday and hours of dancing this is one of the tracks that would get me back inthe moshpit/ dance floor. the heat, light ,and sound s of this track combined was an awesome feeling .I'm now in my mid 40s and just love seeing other people discovering the music I enjoy. 🤘

I was lucky enough to meet Mr zombie more than a few times. He had a house near where I lived and shopped at the grocery store I worked at in high school. It took a few times of him going through my check-out line for me to be sure it was him. He was super quiet and a bit surprised when I recognized him, but super nice and talked me up a bit when he saw I was a fan. I swear nobody believes me to this day that Rob zombie used to come through my checkout once a week.
I met him in Nashville, behind the facade of an innocent looking bookstore.

Rob Zombie's singing is the vocal equivalent of an ACDC power chord. It ain't complicated it just slams you through the wall.

Rob Zombie actually has a reputation for being an extremely kind, gentle, and sweet person, funnily enough.
He adopts animals, but they all have names like Frankenstein and Dracula. Cool dude that just really loves horror.
He doesn't drink alcohol, doesn't smoke, doesn't do drugs, and became a vegetarian in the 80s after watching a documentary about the treatment of animals in a slaughterhouse. Dude was kind enough to publicly defend the Baby Metal girls from internt tough guys, 100% wholesome.
A lot of metal, horror, and dark fantasy fans are like that. I guess all that evil and darkness helps them process their own personal demons

Living Dead Girl is great follow up for spooky themed delights. Rob Zombie is such a lovely human despite is "creepy" exterior. He's a gem in the music and film making worlds. Love how much fun you had with this
Love the man. I've met and shook his hand several times at autograph signings (ozz/mayhem fests). My only disappointment is his brother spider was never on those tours lmao. I'd still kill to see a powerman concert.

Rob zombie is brilliant, and frankly, under appreciated. I'm a huge fan of his music and films, but even if it isn't your thing, you have to admit that his level of creativity is remarkable. If you listen to the entire "hellbilly deluxe" album, it really transcends any music genre. I feel its also important to know that he doesn't drink or do drugs, this is just total creativity.
HeII yes ! He's Iike a throw back to shock rock. I Iove AIice Cooper & saw him twice, and Rob Zombie. We saw him about 10 yrs ago during Mayhem Fest at Montage Mt in Scranton, PA. There was a serious accident on the road leaving the venue with at Ieast one fatality so the power went out for about 20 min. Someone slammed into a pole.
So no one was going anywhere untiI they completed their investigation and opened the road again.
Rob Zombie headlined and he played like an extra 30-60 min to entertain us, at his own expense.
He broke into Metallica Iike he does, Enter Sandman and everyone goes nuts. It was truIy epic. My oIder son was aIso there and Iater he was on a Rob Zombie FB page and said how epic it was and how underrated John⁵ is (was at that time) as his guitarist. And John⁵ replied to him, he thanked my son for the compliment and for coming to the show.
We had a great time, although I'm sorry someone Iost their Iife in that accident. 😔
I would not hesitate to see him again. He really sounds great Iive and puts on a fantastic show. 🤘😎

Fun Fact: Dragula is the original car that Herman Munster drove in the TV series.
Also, the whole album "Hellbilly Deluxe" is amazing.
Funny for the music video the were supposed to get the dragula but it wasn't available so the had to use the Munsters coach car instead

Herman drove the "Munster Coach".
Hellbilly Deluxe is also one of the very few albums to get a Parental Advisory with little to no swearing in it. They were just super concerned about all of the horror and didn't realize it's meant to be B-Movie camp.
Dragula was the name of the family car on the 60s sitcom “The Munsters”. It was an old dragster that resembled a hearse. Rob Zombie spent nearly his entire youth in the 60s in front of a TV screen, and loved TV and movies. So although his songs are dark, nightmarish, and horror inspired…there’s always a fun playful and kitschy side to them.
Also, his parents were circus carnies when he was a kid, so he grew up around sideshows, freaks, funhouses, and all the weirdness of circus/carnival life.
If you REALLY want to experience lyrics that elude to 60s pop culture, then react to his song “Thunder Kiss 65”.
The family car was the Munster Coach (Koach?). Dragula was Grandpa's coffin-based race car.

Absolutely! Lasexorsisto Devel Music Vol.1 is absolutely an amazing album. Electric Head part 1 is probably my favorite White Zombie song though.
One really cool thing about Rob Zombie is the woman you see in his videos and that sings in a lot of his songs is actually his wife Sheri Zombie. I always thought it was cool that she is always involved in his projects!

There are a lot of reaction channels out there, but there is something so genuine on these breakdowns that keeps me coming back.
Rob Zombie, Robert Bartleh Cummings, and the lead singer of Powerman 5000, Michael David Cummings (Spider One) are brothers. Rob chose to take musical inspiration from horror movies, while Michael took inspiration from science fiction. Both are amazing metal musicians.

You should definitely check out some of Rob Zombie's earlier work in White Zombie. Thunder Kiss 65, Soul-Crusher, Black Sunshine, More Human Than Human, Super-Charger Heaven would all be excellent choices.

I'm gonna hop on here and agree 100%. I have a very diverse taste in music and I truly believe the techno and industrial movement from the mid 90's is very underrated. The genre may not have the greatest vocalists but what they lack in vocal talent they make up for in performance, production and acoustical experimentation.

I've seen Rob Zombie a couple times live and he brings the showmanship from this video to the stage in full force. The colors, the lights, the props, the costumes, all of it. It's phenomenal. You picked a good song to analyze.
Interesting, since he has absolutely no showmanship in the video, just a stagnate lump that moves his arms into the same poses.
but its the same exact show every time...seen him 4 times over the last 20 years and nothing changed like literally nothing since the first time i saw him in 02

My 2nd concert to go to was Videodrone, Rob Zombie (Hellbilly Deluxe tour), and Korn (Follow the Leader tour). Abso-fuking-lutely amazing concert

This song always makes me think of two things…
1. The Matrix, it’s playing in the club where Neo and Trinity first meet.
2. Playing Rock Band with my niece, this was one of the earliest songs she liked singing so we played it a bunch. Hearing a 6 year old belt out those lyrics is quite an experience.

Rob Zombie was the first show I ever went to. Haven't really listened to him in over a decade and still remember every dang word. I loooove watching you experience him for the first time and give me some of the technical aspects I missed as a 16 year old metalhead.
Rob Zombie is always good, tongue in cheek fun. His love for old (and bad) horror movies doesn't only play out in video images, he often incorporates odd dialogue into the songs themselves. Incorporating and layering different sounds, effects and media makes many of the songs an oddball experience, but if you're in for the fun, they certainly are entertaining and full speed energy.

Funnily enough his beats are perfect for cardio lol I've been mainly listening to him when jogging, gives you that nice energy Boost.
His little brother (in Powerman 5000) used a line from that robot movie you see in When Worlds Colide "You are a robot!"
This is my favorite band hands down. I always have to explain to people - there are plenty of bands I recognize have more TALENT - however Rob Zombie is able to produce a SOUND (or maybe theme?) that is truly unique and that gets me going more than music theory or complexity of lyrics. The SOUND is just so amazing it translates directly into feeling - regardless of message or intricacy.
While its obvious Elizabeth has serious musical skill and an ability to really paint a picture with her words... Can I just take a second to appreciate her ability to rewind /exactly/ where she wants to pretty darn consistently? 😂 yet another talent among the many she posesses
She's been doing this for a few years now. She wasn't always this good, but she is very good at it now.

I saw a concert with Rob Zombie and Disturbed a few years ago. Rob Zombie was an experience, he walked around in the crowd, took pictures with fans, gave hugs, it was an incredible experience.

Dragula is like an auditory horror movie. The way the song drops out the music at spots is evocative of the way horror movies will have silence or a pause before a scare
Rob Zombie is a performer and a great maker of spectacles. His live shows have been hailed as some of the best in history.
Best in history?? The theatrics and musicians, yes. The vocals, absolutely not! Rob is a great person, artist, creator, and entertainer, but he can't sing "live." I've seen him several times, and he can't even sing his own songs. He runs out of air and changes the tone of his vocals that ruin his songs for me. I've seen several people on here who say the exact same thing. He's great, but he's not a "live" singer!

Rob Zombie is a self proclaimed old school horror fan (his movie House of 1000 Corpses is a "new" classic 70's horror movie). That is his wife Sherri in the black hat in the chorus. His work in White Zombie is awesome as well. Some others to check out are "Red Red Groovy", "Living Dead Girl" and "Thunder Kiss 65".

His original band "White Zombie" was one of my favorites when I was a teenager in the 90's. They toured with Pantera in 1998. Deftones were the opener. Was my first concert. Astrocreep was an awesome album.

Might just be me but it sounds like his singing is in perfect harmony with the drums. It makes it more rhythmic and a chanting quality.
Of all the concerts that I’ve attended from ages 16 to now (36), Rob Zombie was the absolute best. The energy, showmanship and quality of his live music stands apart. You should try Living Dead Girl next.
Saw him when I was 17, and he was amazing. He did Living Dead Girl, More Human Than Human, and Dragula in that order for the encore, and there were videos going around some local facebook pages of the venue's windows shaking during Dragula 'cuz everyone was jumping and stomping in unison. It was awesome. One of the best shows I've ever seen.
I was very fortunate to catch Rob zombie and Marilyn Manson for Halloween years ago, Manson was good, but imo Rob was amazing

You’re right about the energy; it was off the charts.
I've seen well over a dozen concerts and Robs was the absolute best. It made it even better that he brought out all the monsters from his music videos on stage to the point where Tob couldn't even move because there were so many people up there.
I saw Zombie in ’99 with Korn and his set is still the one I remember the most.
It wasn't for twisted metal, I would probably never have known how great this song is.

Elizabeth, I really appreciate your reviews and have so much fun watching you geek out! Rob Zombie is a favorite of mine and has been all the way back to the White Zombie days. Great pick for your first review of his music. I really do recommend that you find a high quality live recording of the same song, and even if it is not a published review, just get into the energy if Rob live for yourself. He brings every bit of effort to the live shows as you see in the studio video, and in my opinion is just incredible. Full use if the stage, working the crowd, jumping from platform to platform, high kicks, knee drops. It is amazing to watch him just physically perform. He has so much more energy than many half his age and keeps it up for the whole two hour set. It is also amazing how much of the textures and things that you mention in your review that they are able to bring live. A lot of bands overproduce so much in the studio that their live performance has to be scaled back in order to play for an audience. Check it out for yourself. I think it will be a thrill for you!

Seen White Zombie/Rob half a dozen times in concert. To be honest, he's not a great singer, but it's good enough and it's never stopped me from enjoying the show.
@@csurampower Rob's issue with his live singing is that he and the band often prioritize the entertainment aspect of the show rather than the music, but like you said he's good enough regardless and the crowd gets insanely into the horror aspects and production. One of the best live artists you can see in terms of spectacles, doesn't hurt that the music is groovy and easy to dance to as well

His movies definitely do have a gleefully sadistic quality to them, so he just gets all his darkness out through his art. I think having a healthy outlet for some of our darker thoughts is why a lot of people who make that kind of stuff are actually really nice people.
His former bandmates in White Zombie might disagree on the no scandals/no evil bit. There's a few burnt bridges there, for sure.
Without knowing the full story I'll just say that sometimes people are angry because they've been mistreated, and sometimes they're angry because they've lost opportunities, or misunderstood something.
Rob seems to be a really interesting and nice person from what we can see of him, but as every media personality, there would be an effort to cultivate a certain presentation of his personal life.

Rob Zombie's brother is even more techno. Spider One in the group "Powerman 5000" - best known for doing the version of "Relax" in Zoolander and the song "When Worlds Collide" which is easily their most popular main stream song too.

Their cover of KC and The Sunshine Band's I'm Your Boogieman is a very fun video to watch for Halloween. It was under his old band White Zombie before they broke up and Rob went solo. Wouldn't do it for vocal analysis as the entire song is done with some sort of electronic vocal distortion thing, but again...a very fun video to watch for Halloween!

Back when this song was new it was a hit at a local country dance club. Seeing some great dancers line dance to this was both hilarious and fit oddly well.
I really hope you take a dive into Nine Inch Nails some day. Trent Reznor might not be an “amazing” vocalist, but his music is incredible to me. The way he can go from heavy, in-your-face, pissed off industrial to soft, emotionally heavy, quiet (often within the same song) is so good. Plus all the little effects layered and layered on top of each other is amazing.
I agree with everything you said apart from the Trent's not an "amazing" vocalist part. He may not have the greatest range, tone or technique, but when it comes to conveying emotion I'm struggling to think of anybody better. When Trent sings, you feel every single word.

Astrocreep2000 is one of my personal favorite albums.
After this, I recommend *Ministry* (start with _Stigmata_ which features a famous pitch-bend and a scream that sounds like gargling broken glass & razor blades), and also *KMFDM* (start with _Juke-Joint Jezebel_ even though that's their "mainstream" hit rather than a song the fans like best; it has more actual singing than a lot of their stuff).
But you have to listen to “Everyday is Halloween” for some background to where Ministry came from.
Definitely this sound have get the huge influence from Ministry by Al Jourgensen

I love this song, well.. anything Rob Zombie is and was involved with has a certain charm that is clearly his trademark.
In a way he's like Alice Cooper, a chill guy living his best horror themed rock life and kicking behind at it.
I find this song to be a perfect example of what Rob Zombie is about, his love for classic horror, tv shows, and movie direction are all present in this song.

This is a great song, and the video makes me laugh for many reasons... one of which is though the song is called Dragula, the car Rob's driving is actually the Munster Koach (or a replica) - the actual Drag-u-la was built from a coffin - or more accurately, a coffin was used as a mold to make the fiberglass body. No mere movie prop, it was a fully operational vehicle, with a 350hp Ford 289, and tons of aftermarket (and perhaps otherworldy) performance parts.
Falling into a rabbit hole was a perfect description of what his horror films feel like, you nailed that one when describing the video. He captures well the feeling of unstoppable, out of control, crescendoing dread and chaos. His wife, the dancer featured so heavily here, is a pretty decent actress as well. I generally watch horrors for thrill, but I watch his movies for an entirely different feeling.
I love this song and I have it! I also have two others. I never got any of his albums. I may have to change that. It was nice to hear you analyzing his voice and other things as well. Kind of like a behind the scenes feel to it. This is my first time seeing this video, that was cool too.
Layers is the key word. From the beginning to the end he keeps adding more and more layers. And all the layers keep coming forward and moving back.
It's also supposed to be an auditory "trip". Even the stereo movement in the headset is meant to swirl around you head. Rob loves to play with the listener's equilibrium as you listen to the song. Almost like choreographing your bodies reactions to the music.

Rob Zombie is one of my favorite artists of all time and his songs really get me going. Plus his theory of music is the best I've ever heard. He said that if strippers can't dance to your music, what good is it? If you like this, you really should deep dive into more of his work. He has a ton of great hit songs.
I used to DJ and loved opening 3am techno slots just with this track and video. It was great for that lil pick-me-up to get the crowd waking up and moving. Plus the outro beat was great to lead into something else suitably pounding. A very talented chap and an artist across the A/V range.

It's so interesting to think some people have never listened to music like this. I grew up with it, so it's fun to see someone experiencing it for the first time.
oh my god Elizabeth you MUST do more Rob Zombie! He is such a creative musician!! I saw him Live and he pulled SUCH an amazing show. It was dance party, meets haunted house, meets grimy dirty rock and metal, it's amazing stuff.
If you ever get the opportunity to see him in concert...DO IT. He puts on an amazing stage show. I kinda call his style of music "party metal" because he mixes in so different styles, plus clips of old films/shows.
I got to see him four times in a two year period...the Mayhem Festival, the Hell on Earth tour with Slayer, the Halloween Hootenanny with Alice Cooper, and then, the following summer with Megadeth.
I saw him twice ! He is my absolute favorite person to see ! Such a great guy ! At the last concert I went to , he stopped the whole show to yell at a lady who was on the phone having a whole conversation , and continued while he was asking her to quit being rude ! “
I've seen him a few times live as well, and it's always an amazing show. The first time I saw him was with Korn in Portland, OR back in like 1999, at the Rose Garden (now called Moda Center). I was sitting in the very back row of the venue, and could still feel the wave of heat from his pyro wash over me.
I def second (or fourth?) this! I saw him a couple month ago with Alice Cooper and it was easily on par or better than some of my favorite concert experiences (Marilyn Manson, GWAR, ICP, Korn, Bauhaus, etc). He was also a LOT skinnier than I was expecting.
Every time I've seen him he's always out of breath through songs. Stage show is awesome however his actual singing skills are below par

When you mentioned the various textures in the song, I thought that explains why a number of movies, TV shows, and video games used "Dragula" in their soundtracks. The most memorable is its use in "The Matrix" when Neo meets Trinity in the club, following the White Rabbit.
White Zombie played at my college dorm before they became well known. Rob Zombie and the rest of the band were pretty laid back. He isn't his stage persona.

Saw White Zombie back in 2005? In my hometowns tiny venue at a metal fest, they opened for Powerman 5000 and fell in love. Seeing Rob Zombie is still on my bucket list though.

That wavey sound at the start is at lease based on the Theremin. It was used quite often on 30s scare movies. And same for many of the costumes in the video. I can't help but think Rob Zombie got a hold of these and thought, "I'm going to make a song and video with these" :)

The sound bites and meaning from Thunderkiss ‘65 is from the movie Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!. It’s a crazy obscure cult B movie made in 1965, it took me forever to find a DVD copy of it as they made a very limited run of them. Coincidentally there’s a hair metal band from the 80’s called Faster Pussycat named after the same movie.
I’ve seen some legends play live but none of them energized the crowd like White Zombie did when I caught them play. The crowd at that show was on such a different level.

I haven't heard his recent material in the last 5 or 10 years, but, he's a diabolical musical genius. His ability to mesh music and percussion with whatever environment he's immersed himself in is second to none. And he's certainly not afraid to experiment with new and old artistic ideas. One of his gems is Superfreak.
They somehow sound just like this live also they put on an amazing show with him headbanging / powder looking like smoke from his head / his cage dancers / clear liquid filled guitar that he sprays the crowd with that’s fake blood, it’s fantastic!!!

The thing that I love about Rob Zombie's music is the no matter how hard or "heavy" it gets, it's always fun and so damn easy to dance too!
Rob Zombie is a huge horror nerd and it always shines through in his music videos and directing. He's also one of the nicest people around. He's one of my favorite people!
Hi, Im late to the party! After watching "War pigs" i was brought here, I have been enjoying your videos. Rob Zombie has been playing with film coloring and splicing in old films as well as sounds from older tv shows into his music since his days of White Zombie. I would recommend seeing one of his films when you have the courage to watch a horror film, I enjoyed his version of Halloween. A recommendation of another of his songs i go with, "Black Sunshine".
A cool tidbit about Rob and his brother Spider. While Rob went for the more horror based aspects in many of his songs, Spider (lead singer for Powerman 5000) was driven more towards the sci-fi realm. Each had their own favorites growing up which later influenced them in their music careers :)

Yes ! We saw Rob Zombie in 2013 I beIieve, at Montage Mt, Scranton area, PA on the Mayhem Fest tour. There was a bad car accident on the road that takes you to the highway, you couldn't get out of that area without using that road and it was blocked off for hours, because there was at Ieast one fataIity, so they had to do their investigation.
The power went out during FFDP and took a half hour for them to get the power back on. They played before Rob Zombie who played Iast. He played like an extra hour since no one could Ieave until the roads were opened. He either played for free or had to pay for that extra time, and it was epic. Big props to him for that. It still took us hours to get out of there but it was worth it to hear him play for so long. Great show !
Strongly recommend some older White Zombie. The whole Astro Creep: 2000 record was really important for me (got kicked out of a church lock-in for sneaking into the youth pastor's office to listen to it, and invited to never come back). Their sound has always been horror influenced & involves lots of sound clips from sci-fi/horror movies. More Human Than Human is probably the obvious track as their most popular, but Electric Head Part 1 is killer, and I think you'd really like Blood, Milk, And Sky as an exploration of why texture is so important in rock/metal.
Astro Creep changed how I listened to music. Blood, Milk and Sky is an outstanding track on an epic album. It was sad to hear White Zombie broke up after such a monumental album.

I used to work with a guy similar to Rob. He was older, he's probably about 73 now. Surly is a very kind way to describe him, old cranky bastard would be my choice. He was highly intelligent and artistic but man, was he an a-hole most of the time. He played a dozen different instruments and composed classical music symphonies and stuff like that. Even had them performed by local orchestras in front of big-wigs in the industry but he never found main-stream success and he was very bitter about it. Oh, and he also smoked crack to give him "inspiration". (yes, I'm serious)

Thanks for making me listen to this song on my good headphones. I've known this song from the time it came out, but never had good audio to hear all the nuance. I was a Goth/Industrial (a LOT of overlap in Michigan) nerd (kinda still am). There are 2 major dance clubs that played Industrial music (strangely not the club named Industry) here. I'm used to hearing this at deafening levels, not through quality headphones. That was fun.

We went tto see Lamb of God. Korn, and Hatebreed mostly. We all loved White Zombie but didnt expect much. Best performance by far.
Yes, we saw him at Mayhem Fest in 2013 at Montage Mt, near Scranton, PA. It was a great show. There had been a bad car accident on the road outside Montage Mt, you couldn't Ieave because the road was closed for hours since there was a fatality and they had to do their investigation. So Rob Zombie played an extra hour or more since no one could leave. It was a great show and having an extra hour of Rob Zombie made the hours long wait to Ieave, worth it.

Yeah after the show, within a few days my older son (who was there with us) said something on their FB page I think it was, about how John⁵ who was the guitarist at that time, was underrated and sounded so good and John⁵ himself replied and thanked my son and thanked us for coming to the show. They seem like cool guys indeed. I wouldn't hesitate to go again, same with my son. We see metal and hard rock shows every summer. We've seen Lamb Of God 3 yrs in a row and they just get better each time. I would Iove to see Elizabeth react to Descending, my favorite LoG song. The drumming alone is next level. Idk why, but it speaks to me deeply. I think she would Iike it. Lol 😎🤘

Rob Zombie is really cool. His style is "groove metal " and B movie horror. He is very involved in many aspects of his music, performance and directing. He even made a creepy cartoon movie. Good job on the reaction.

Now that you've gotten into Zombie, please, please, please react to two other bands that fit right in with this style! Not only is their music amazing, but they both have incredibly rare and unique sounding voices that are perfect for analyzing and I'm shocked that you've yet to check them out! I would love to hear your reaction/review of "Static-X," preferred songs would be "Push It" or "Bled For Days," then I'd check out "So" to hear his soft singing side, and "In This Moment," preferred song would be "Big Bad Wolf" then I'd check out "The Fighter" to hear her somewhat softer yet very emotional singing voice. Seriously, Wayne Static, may he R.I.P. and Maria Brink have some of the most jaw dropping, uniquely textured voices that are surely going to blow your mind! I promise, it won't disappoint and that you've not heard anyone that sounds like them yet!

I saw Rob Zombie at the Rock is Dead tour in Gulf Shores MS with Korn. Even though he opened for Korn, he BLEW THEM AWAY. Everyone left the Coliseum saying he upstaged Korn by an order of magnitude. So amazing.
