Using the cheapest electric mountain bike on an advance trail is not a fair evaluation, and it is obvious that the ebike wouldn't perform well. Try testing on gravel roads or flatter sections would have been a better evaluation of the bike's performance.

I’m an analog rider myself but I can see why so many people get ebikes. Surely if an ebike can give someone the motivation to ride that they may not have done before it’s that a good thing. If I had the funds I would definitely be riding an ebike. A proper emtb I mean.

On an E bike I can get in 5 rather than two, and whilst the climb isn’t nearly as difficult, descending more than twice as many times makes up for the exercise lost during the ascent.

Great review, iI have one myself and have been using it on flat road for commuting to work. It's great for just that but I turned it into a project bike and upgraded the forks to a rock shox recon, swapped out the front wheel to a better hub that has rotor mounts, upgraded to mechanical disc brakes front and rear(to keep the motor cutoff switch), tires to 26x2.5 nobbies, 720mm handlebar, shimano trigger shifter, and race face lock on grips...and in all honesty it's a completely different animal now. It can handle most local trails (and non crazy jumps) no problem and still have the help of the pedal assist. i would say overall it is a good capable ebike once you eliminate all its cheapo components and still be under what the big brands ask for... that is if you are a recreational rider.

I got one off Facebook marketplace for 275 and replaced the fork, stem, hydraulic brakes, handlebars, cranks, front wheel with a 27.5 + and Maxxis tires now its amazing for the money. It just needs some help if you already have some parts in your parts bin but the frame is great. I already had all of the parts except the front wheel and fork so it was worth it for me. Later I'm installing an ebike motor kit.

Do not take it on advanced mountain trails.😀 It’s holding up pretty well. If you don’t have a lot of money to spend I think it’s worth the money. I am satisfied for the money I spent. BTW I own 8 Ebikes ranging from this Hyper Ebike to higher end $1500 Ebikes. I’ve also built 2 Ebikes from scratch so I know more about Ebikes than most people.

    2.27.5 Wheel with disc hub
    3. Generic mechanical disc brake calipers front and rear.
    4. 780mm bars

    6. Old Specialized saddle
    7. Kenda tires front 27.5 and rear 26
Only part I purchased for this upgrade was a JG bike crank and BB with chainring $39.99 on Amazon (Steal of a deal) and cheap bar grips.

Any bike requires one to engage brain and use the machine within its parameters. And 400 bucks is a great place to start for an e-bike, it seems to me, you could always mount the motor and such on a better frame or whatever. And I work at a Walmart and assembled bikes for eight years and it was always breathtaking to me, the demand. It never, ever stopped. Build up a batch of bikes, roll 'em out to the sales floor, gone within days and sometimes even hours. And with the e-bikes, Walmart was selling a basic model a decade ago and one evening, an older gent was looking at it and I happily explained its features and benefits. But he replied, well, if he wanted that, he'd just ride his Harley.

Good for light trails. It’s like comparing a Kia vs Acura. The hub works off of cadence sending vs torque sensing on a mod driver. Mid drives are thousands of dollars. For the price and average person you can’t beat the Hyper . Spend another 500 in upgrades and nobody on the mountain catch you

  • @JJ_ExMachina

And people wonder why it cots thousands of dollars to own a proper mountain bike... The seat failure on the Hyper is just one example of why...

Why would you be against eBike's in general?

  • @michaelsprinzeles4022

That's a mountain looking commuter e-bike. Rim brakes have an undeserved bad rep. They're fine as long as your rim isn't wet or dirty, so fine for the road & fair weather. For $400 that bike is better than the local bus?

Maybe the USA got a different version of the 26er eRide with an 8 spd set up like yours.
Ours in Canada were all 6 spd and the 29er is 7 spd here eh! 🇨🇦 🍁

It sounds like you really liked that eBike for road and commuting. Did the assist only have one level, and did the "+" and "-" buttons on the left not do anything?

Hmmmm..... My commute in the mountains kills by the end of the week. I could possibly use this every other day and save my legs..... Oh man... So what size frame would you say it is? That might be my only sticking point.

    • @patricktaylor4997
      @patricktaylor4997 3 года назад

It's more or less a 16" frame, effective top tube length is 23", BB height is 12" or so (the fork sags a lot) Has IS disc tabs on the seatstay and 6x rotor holes in the rear hub.

The real question is, what if you put an acceptable fork on it (obviously not a fox 38 factory grip 2) but an acceptable air fork, some grippier tires and some entry level disc brakes, i mean, the bike on its own doesnt seem THAT BAD, its just out of the store new, i think it would be fair if you put some upgrades on it because lets be honest, most of us dont have our bikes even CLOSE as they were out of the store

That could be interesting, but you have to think about the fact that it started cheap, so probably will stay sort cheap.

Just because the "brakes pull all the way to the leaver" doesn't mean the brakes are going out. You can clearly see you havent adjusted them at all. Also, i think you would have bent most seats landing on it like that.

"Who is this bike made for?"
Kids. Most big box store bikes are made for kids to fool around with in their backyards. Maybe jumping over some homemade ramps. It's pre-entry level stuff. Any serious rider is going to get a brand name bike from a dedicated bike shop. But, that's coming from a guy who has put over 30,000 miles on a $200 Schwinn Kempo he got from Walmart.
