    For anyone starting, just get a used G27 or a new G29 on a good deal for peace of mind. Forget the best felling and the more realistic option, its more than enough to have massive amounts of fun and learn all you need. Most starters will usually stop racing after a week or two, as it's not as easy to go fast as clean as it may seem, and lots of practice is required. Put some hours on a couple of sims, then decide if you want to go a step above on quality

    • @LexusLFA554

      Unless you live in a housing complex. I had a G29, and it was extremely loud because of the plastic wheels. In the end the motors fried themselves not even 1 year into operation.
      I have a T300RS now which I think is miles better around the same price where the G29 was when new.

    • @thatdixierasta
      @thatdixierasta 9 месяцев назад +31

      My only counterpoint to that is that, if you are coming to sim racing as a driving enthusiast, the lack of real quality feel from those wheels make push you out of the hobby quickly since it doesn't provide a good level of immersion.

    • @lmaonade.
      @lmaonade. 9 месяцев назад +12

      @@thatdixierastaI would like to pose a counterpoint for your comment as well... (well not a counterpoint just and thought before your comment) That most entry level drivers would need a feel for sim racing and should consider trying out cheapers wheels like the G923. BUT, at time goes we've seen these DD wheels and bases become cheaper and cheaper every year.
      I would recommend beginners get a G923 first and use it for a while until the DD wheel market gets saturated and DD wheels are more affordable.
      Or you can go ahead and skip if it's immersion you're looking for. Just know, you are listening to the opinions of sim racers who put a lot of money into the hobby... doesn't necessarily mean you will have the same level of expectations as them.

      I'm new into simracing and decided to go with a G29, which was on a pretty decent sale. It may not be the most realistic option out there, but it ended up costing me half of what it would've been for the Fanatech bundle. I'm really not sure how much I'm going to be simracing, so I think it's a pretty good choice. Also, I think that just having a wheel, pedals and a touch of force feedback is gonna make playing racing games a lot more fun.

    For the first time wheel owners I say that the Logitech g29 is the only one I've ever had. I've had 3 or 4 of them over a decade but because I've never tried a direct drive I don't know what I'm missing. I have a great time with my g29 and it feels like driving to me. The force feedback is substantial enough to feel real and combined with a Playseat entry level seat and pedal mount set up and a PS4 or PS5 that is as close to real racing as I need. If money is no issue in the future I would spend $20,000 and go crazy on it but there is no need to drool over other set ups. For a total of about $1,300 you can have a really great time.

    Just a little tip for UK and Aussie people. And anywhere else that have a cash converters. Which to anyone who doesnt know. Its a second hand store similar to a pawn shop but its a big company. Anyway. Buying second hand from them is a good option. They check the item before they buy it from someone so you know it works. And in the off chance it doesnt they have a really good returns reputation. But the good thing is they arent specialised in anything so they get in good stuff but sell it cheap since they have know clue what they have. Ive bought a t300rs Gt with clutch pedal. Boxed for 189 pound which if you try to buy it new its 360 pound. Ive seen a t500rs for 99. Fanatec wheel rims for 50. Its a something to think about

    One thing to remember is that as you move up in equipment you also start adding button boxes, then multi monitor setups and then you need a more powerful system to run it and the set up and additional needed software can complicate the overall system and rig.
    I recommend someone new to start simple and honestly your best upgrade to see driving improvements and lap time consistency is the pedals not the wheelbase.
    I will say probably 80%+ of all new sim racers can be well served using a wheelstand, a single 32"-34" monitor or maybe a 43" tv and with under a grand invested in their wheelbase, pedals and wheel.
    Most new racers will come and go and not play to the extent long term they think they will and just pop in every so often for shorter spells racing then not race again sometimes for weeks or months.
    Not to mention the AVERAGE racer will not have the skillsets to be racing at a level to ever be able to see that elusive .2 tenths of a second laptime to put them over the top when comparing racing with a $600 rig versus a $2500 rig.
    Keep it simple and at a reasonable budget is the best answer for the majority of people sim racing on Saturday morning while still in their underwear!

    I use a wheel stand, a non folding, stable stand that allows me to stand on the brake pedal and which has no visible movement in use. Unfortunately I don't have space for a full rig or triples, my rig is solid though, handles my direct drive wheelbase and 100kgs load cell brake pedal better than many full cockpits. There is some flex in the shifter mount but it's minimal and not enough to effect gate entry. Completely removing movement from your setup makes a big difference, more than the upgrade from belt to direct drive. I'd also recommend OLED display/s, their much faster response times make you feel like you're looking thru a windscreen not watching on a monitor. Another top tip is to use the lightest wheel that is suitable for your wheelbase, it's lower mass makes the most of your motors FFB output, giving a snappier more immediate feel than one with greater mass. Round wheels are better for all around car control, ask a rally driver 😉

      T128 is plenty. For some reason sim racers expect a feedback strength that can be seen in cars with no power steering and everything from the road is delivered directly into your hands with no dampening between. 😅 The pedals are crap though but it is compatible with Thrustmaster pedals like T3PM for not too much money.

    • @MrProthall

    I got given an Xbox 360 then picked up a Xbox wireless racing wheel/pedals in mint condition for £20. The FF on the wheel was much better than I had expected (never having used an FF wheel before) so it was a very pleasant surprise. Forza 3 and 4, Dirt 3, original Forza Horizon and Race Driver games are all a lot of fun to play on this setup and although obviously not full sims are certainly challenging enough and the graphics have not aged badly at all. Just getting a clean run on a rally stage in Dirt (let alone fast), or a clean hot lap of the Nordschleife on Forza ain't easy!

It's not even close if you're being even remotely honest. 🤷

      (I replaced my trusty T3PA's with T3PM's this past month after finding a used T248 on my local classifieds in basically mint condition w/ everything included for just $195, after which I sold my TMX Pro's w/ their T3PA's to a good buddy for almost the entirety of my upgrade cost! 🥳)
      And that remains true even if you need to spend an extra +≈$10 to get a conical rubber brake mod piece for them (like the T3PA's come with stock) off Etsy/Amazon, if you are truly properly OBSESSED with THAT particular pedal experience. 🤷
      (I haven't bothered to do that as the 2x different springs, each paired w/ or w/o the included, super thick rubber spring depressing washer gives me MORE than enough "fine-grained adjustment" on the brake pedal [w/ a massively, MASSIVELY wider range from stiffest to softest stock setup vs the T3PA's].)

    I feel like in 2023, going into 2024, people should avoid getting a gear driven wheelbase, now that belt driven and even direct drive wheels are becoming more affordable, even more so in the future. Just ordered the Next Level Racing Wheel Stand 2.0 and I'm excited to see how it holds up. It's the perfect solution for my situation right now, but I'm wondering how much space the shifter/handbrake mount has.

    • @OCRacing
      @OCRacing  9 месяцев назад +1

      Awesome! I honeslty can't remember but I think both of them will fit. Worst case scenario you'll have to buy the Thrustmaster handbrake/shifter mount seperately and mount that onto the wheelstand itself. (at least I think that would work?)

    Though you're not taking into the consideration the fact that the prices in the USA and EU are the same which is very very unfair to the Europeans because in the US the average salary is around 40k in Europe in countries like Italy its around 10k, the good jobs are paid 14-20k a year.. the best possible option if you want to start is the T248X if you need the greatest amount ffb torque for a buck, especially if it's discounted or just go for a used one otherwise G923 if you're looking for more options on your the wheel. And the best thing is you don't need to buy anything else in addition if you go for these 2. DD's simply can't compete with that pricing... I agree to some extent if you spend 150 euros more you can get yourself a bundle from Fanatec that's around 500euro but it doesn't include the mounting clamps which are additional 30 euros or so. Imho you should start from Logitech or Thrustmaster and see if it worths it to upgrade to a DD because you actually need a better rig since you're very fast but limited by your sim rig

Also the idea that you can get a cockpit for a direct drive wheel for less than $1000 is hopeful thinking. Whatever you do do NOT buy Playseat cockpits, they are poor quality, they lie about availability, shipping times, and neglect to inform customers of import fees all while not being able to get into contact with customer support/service.
