  • Are you facing a $1200 repair to replace the intake manifold?
    This video covers one method for troubleshooting a P2076 due to a disconnected actuator connector, it shows a detailed review of the intake manifold both out-the-box and under-the-hood and it shows how to use your scanner to properly prepare your car for inspection. Each section is about 1/3 of the video, so you can watch only the part(s) you need.
    If you are even contemplating a DIY removal of the intake manifold, it is probably worth your time to watch this video unless you have a good set of instructions. I could not find a Sonic-specific set of instructions or videos when I was looking.
    Fortunately, I was able to resolve my CEL by reattaching the actuator connector. As a result, I did not have to remove the intake manifold. However, had I needed to, it would have been helpful to see the scope of the problem before buying the part.
    FYI, the P2076 sometimes shows up with other codes. In my case, last year it came up related to the throttle body. So, you will find another video on that at:
    • P2076 Remove, Replace ...
    GUELPH has another video on this actuator link worth watching. It was not clear to me exactly what he meant without seeing the part on the intake manifold when it was out-of-the-box, but when you put his video and mine together, it may be helpful.

    *Happened to me too on my 2012 Chevy Cruze - twice. Cost me $1K first time. This time, I'm just snapping it back into place and making sure it stays on. It won't stay on long, so you'll have to keep putting it back on... but at least it'll clear the engine codes and save you $1,000+ repair which involves replacing an intake manifold which has nothing wrong with it. BTW, my last three cars were Chevys. This will be my LAST ONE. Two of the last three, including this vehicle, were NEW vehicles. They BOTH has their transmissions go out within the drive train warranty. My next car will be a Honda.*

    If it doesn’t last long they make you have to replace the whole intake manifold this seems to be happening to a lot of Chevy cars so this video is great and needs to be shared

      Yep. Crappy design. Hence the potential repair technique shown in the video. If you can get some type of axial retainer in that lower connector, you might be able to salvage the intake manifold. While it may still require removal and reinstallation to get access to the connector for repair, at least you could save the costs of the new intake.

    I suggest moving to a non-emissions county haha next year we won't have any inspections. Thanks for the help with the linkage.

    awesome video. i have a 2013 chevy sonic check engine light bank 1 too lean. upon investigation found the same issue the top section still connected and the lower disconnected. called gm and they want to sell you an entire manifold, its crazy! good thing i found that rod on eBay will install and hopefully light stays off!
    really recommend replacing that rod if you guys can in the winter last year at -30 weather the car didn't start at all way too lean

    • @ToolTimeTabor
      @ToolTimeTabor  5 лет назад +1

      Remember, that part you got on eBay is used. GM absolutely does not sell them new. They only sell the entire manifold. That means, it came off of an existing manifold. That means the "race" or groove that keeps it "snapped" into position is probably rounded or "loose" compared to a new one. So, when you "pop" it back into place, I recommend you reset the codes, wait overnight for a cold start, then do the 0-55 for 3 minutes, coast to 20 MPH, then accelerate to 55 for 5 minutes, coast to complete stop. Then, drive in stop and go traffic for 30 miles, then check the codes ANB the "Monitor Status" readings on your scanner. When you have only one Monitor Status pending, go get it inspected. That way, when it "pops" off again, you have you inspection sticker already.

    The engine you showed in the diagram is a 1.4L turbo and this engine is in the cruze and some sonics. I have a cruze and it has the 1.8.

    • @ToolTimeTabor
      @ToolTimeTabor  5 лет назад +3

      Ok. So, you are saying the GM instructions were correct, for a 1.4L Turbo Sonic and/or Cruze. Unfortunately, I could not find any instructions for the 1.8L Sonic, hence part of my motivation for the video. If you have a 1.8L, you may find it hard to get good online documentation and/or videos. So, this video might help folks understand the various connections they will have to account for when contemplating this DYI project.

      @jefftownsend2796 5 лет назад +1

      @@ToolTimeTabor no i was just saying that the 1.8 and 1.4 turbo are in both the sonic and cruze. It was a good video. I had a sonic before my cruze and it also had the 1.8 very good engines never had an issue with either one. The 1.4 turbo on the other hand has its fair share of issues lol.

    This happen to my 1.8L Cruze I super glued the joint back on at the bottom it would come dis connected on the bottom joint super glue seems to be working fine so far

    • @ToolTimeTabor
      @ToolTimeTabor  5 лет назад

      Interesting. I doubt the glue is the factor. That connection must rotate freely, as the upper arm drives it in parallel. If your super glue was the key, it would be "fused" on that lower connector and not rotate properly. I suspect it is behaving like mine. Once I reconnected it, it has remained reconnected (and rotating freely) in its race. Of course, once a grooved race is compromised, it is more vulnerable to coming loose again, but that does not mean it won't work at all. Either way, get it snapped back in place and it will work until it disconnects again.

    • @ToolTimeTabor
      @ToolTimeTabor  5 лет назад

      Yep, mine just popped again...They should have called it an "Engine Running Light" rather than an "Engine Check Light" because it is always on when the engine is on.

    I have a 2014 chevy cruze .. The first issue was this kept popping up "service traction control" and "service stability track" then my check engine light started blinking and my car was running pretty rough, i took it to autozone and this exact code popped up and said to replace the intake manifold tunning valve... I noticed that the arm was popped off as well so I found that same piece at a junk yard and replaced it ... However nothing changed so I am going to drill the small holes and try to put it back in place correctly... I kept using my car only when i really needed it and it turned off on me twice after about 2 minutes of my car being turned on, do you think this arm is still the problem or am I going to have to fix something else ? Should I just correctly try to place the arm and then see what happens?

      Yesenia Lopez sounds like your engine coil is leaking oil into the spark plugs. Depending on the mileage of the vehicle you may have to change the coil and all four spark plugs.

    I am thinking of replacing the intake manifold myself, what has to be removed to make enough room to extract the intake manifold?

    • @fixNrelax
      @fixNrelax 5 лет назад

      You can purchase a new Actuator linkage on eBay and replace it yourself, without removing the the intake manifold.

    • @ToolTimeTabor
      @ToolTimeTabor  5 лет назад

      Remember, that part you got on eBay is used. GM absolutely does not sell them new. They only sell the entire manifold. That means, it came off of an existing manifold. That means the "race" or groove that keeps it "snapped" into position is probably rounded or "loose" compared to a new one.

    You can purchase the linkage (arm) on ebay and replace it without removing the intake manifold, search for " Chevy Cruze P2076 ebay " on Google.

    • @ToolTimeTabor
      @ToolTimeTabor  4 года назад

      Yes, as I mentioned to a previous post, you can get the part. However, GM does not sell them new and unless an after market version has come along what you are getting is a used part. When that part was removed from its parent manifold the races (grooves) will have been compromised. Remember, mine only "came off" their mounts once and it was never quite the same again. You can snap it back on, but it isn't new and crisp. So, buyer beware.
