- The Necrons have awakened for the first time in a Championship series. It is the return of Watson, the Doomsday Ark that seeks redemption. Michael Buckthorp hopes to pilot his Necrons to victory but must overcome the force of nature that is the Year of Steve. Space Marine Steve returns for his third Championship series and of course it is with Space Marines. This year will it be the Astral Claws that win it all for him.
This game and the beautiful mat is from Frontline Gaming.

Note, this game was produced before the core update to Necrons that happened recently (November 2021).
To end the 2021 40k in 40m Season 3 series we are putting on a Warhammer 40k Championship. In this new format the winner is determined by the total victory points they score through all their games so every game counts!
All 40k in 40m games are released on Patreon one-week ahead of RUclips release.

Honestly, with Steve’s rolls like that, his marines should’ve been painted up as Lamenters. At least then the suffering would’ve been thematic.
Lamenters: We suffer because the Emperor demands it.
Also, Lamenters: And you suffer because you have to hand paint all those checker board patterns on our equipment and cry the whole time you mess up. Lament. Lament!

Steve is a champ for staying chill in the face of all that. If someone were to animate this match though it would be incredible. Screaming marines tripping over themselves, an atv getting shot to dust as it heroically shows up, hellblasters melting themselves, a single arc immortal electrocuting 5 units simultaneously, a squad forgetting to take their transhuman phys. Pills ... this match is a ride..

I love them! This was shot before they were announced, but I think it breathes new life into the army synergies Necrons always should have had!

does make me a little sad we won't see james and michael's rematch this time around, i think in future if championships are going to be on a points aggregate we should have everyone play everyone, in this case including winner of game 1 vs loser of game 2 and vice versa :)

It would just have to be six rounds as the winners would face winners and losers fight losers as unless two people won three rounds in a row they would face all three people

@MLaak86 Well, you may joke, but the Inquisition does study Xenos. I mean, there are detailed reports of trying to figure out how an Ork even works. All to figure a better way of killing them. Even though Orks can adapt to pretty much anything, the reports become dated fast.

Positive-ish. I mean, he at least had a sense of humour about it. When you play a game where your dice are cursed and the opponents dice are blessed, laughing at yourself is about all you can do.

@@Ankhtowe i mean, not really, in Starcraft 2 tournaments a bunch of matches are called and GG'd before the 11 minute mark if the other player has clearly won, and then they move on to the next match, no point in playing a game in which you already know the result, this game was decided by the 10 min mark, Steve's deployment/composition isn't really optmal but with those rolls there was legit nothing he could do, lost way too much stuff and took out basically nothing, that is a wrap.
Could not focus on the game after 10:25 because kept wondering if the announcers were wearing pants or not. 😂😂😂

I like the new format with the announcer intervals. It helps people that don't play or are not pro's to understand better what's going on. Also great comedic value.

That's a real big "Oof", my guy. A valiant effort, to be sure, and some entertaining content to boot, but a raw deal nevertheless. I hope Steve gives as good as he got in Game 4!
This is my favorite 40k gaming channel. Great models and maps. Great commentary and relatively short video's that still manage to show the important parts of the games.

Poor Steve... end of that last turn... Michael's face said it all when he broke it to Steve, quantum shielding works in combat. He looked so apologetic, one of those games you just fel bad for your opponent

Love these matches! Though I wish the reigning champ Tak was playing too! He's a beast with his ad mech.
Brutal, gotta believe the redeploy is where things started to go bad, but the dice rolls just DESTROYED any hope for Steve, the show of sportsmanship is a great sight as well.
Watching Steve did actually hurt me emotionally. Not getting the Dreadnought forward is one thing, but getting beaten like a quadriplegic dog with a stick is absolutely heartbreaking. I would have probably just packed my things and went home. He is great sport for soldiering on. What a trooper.

After loosing so many games to that redeploy stratagem and trans-human physiology, this match was certainly cathartic to watch!

I have nothing but love and respect for airbrush painting, but damn I love seeing a well-done handbrushed army. I'm pure handbrush work myself, so I love seeing good and interesting paintjobs and trying to reverse engineer how they went about the paintjobs.
When Steve brought up Ruberts comment I was dead. I still quote that to this day.

This episode was making me depressed, like every time I play against a good chapter of space marines as guard. Just the same attitude as Steve when he shouts out his weapon rules.

Ooooooof, I'm only 10 minutes in and I think this is already decided. Besides Steve's frankly terrible Marines list and his consistently terrible dice luck-- and I gotta say this even though I love you Steve-- Steve is also really lacking in 9th Edition 40k fundamentals. He tends to play a really 8th edition game, where you can tell that killing is at the forefront of his mind and not the objectives; he wastes CP on a redeploy because he overreacts to the danger to his units, he's really babying them. Steve needs to focus on the objectives and accept that 9th edition requires an aggressive, *proactive* plan to take and hold objectives, he plays like he'll handle the objectives after he tables his opponent's key units.
I would disagree with some of that, part of his problem was focusing on using his hellblasters to shoot away scarabs to deny objectives, instead of focusing on bringing down something bigger.

Honestly one thing i am really happy about is seeing a smart Necron force, i watch a lot of games that favor warriors so heavily they dont take the heavy hitting stuff. Though those roles were crazy. What scares me even more is that wraiths are now core, so they can also get rites of retribution to bring back a model each turn from the cryptek potentially
Well, Steve's score going into round 2 is just abysmal.
Really entertaining even if i don't understand everything that's going on ^^. Some Close Up Camera-Shots would be nice during the shooting phase to better understand which unit is shooting which. Otherwise good work, i like the format and the commentators really add some spice to this game. Thumbs up

Honestly I feel like Steves list just does nothing, like I don’t get it at all. This list combined with scuffed targeting Will land you low points against a decent opponent, no matter the will of the dive gods
Agreed. Those hellblasters and transport points would be better spent as another redemptor and more elites! Plus….eradictor melta rifles are assault! Same AP! You don’t need help blasters to advance and shoot anti tank firepower!!
One handicap Steve had was having to play the sponsored army which when he got it was a lot more competitive than it is now. Those are great lost building points.

Yeah, this game reminds me of the time in older Ed, I detonated my opponents bastion with a vindicar and only a Las model survived, while taking out Pask and his squad a moment later with dominions, all this t1, I removed ~1700 points from 2k...he gave up and I felt bad

Man it's one of my favorite things to dunk on Space Marines and Space Marine players and make fun of them and whatnot. Even I feel bad for Steve at this point like, the guy just cannot catch a break this is brutal. Props to Steve for not tilting harder than the pool table on my grandfather's computer that I played when I was 4.

Play with a regular 4'-6' board, 40k on a mini map is not a good idea. it's like twenty-four inches is a long-range weapon on that thing. Turn one small arms should not be in range of anything but deep strikers or reserve units that get punished
