One of my favorite movies of all time. I just loved how each chess piece was a reference to the people who played a part in his life/game. The girl he liked was the Queen hence why his Dad ragged on him about protecting the Queen. Chucky was the Knight, noticed when he died, he placed the knight down and Esteban was the White King being defeated by the black pawn. Classic flick!
@@IAmTheDe Now that you mentioned it, it makes sense how his sister would be the queen. Initially I thought it referenced his classmate, since during the game Sam talked about how protective he was of losing his queen after the court incident.
Chucky was portrayed as the knight on Fresh’s chess board. In chess, knights make the “dopest” “stupid” moves. His father (Sam Jackson) said it. You like that knight the way it jumps all over the board but you’re playing like you’re afraid to lose it. These pieces are a means to an end.
Chucky is definitely a knight or bishop... he never had the potential to become a king, powerful queen or rook, he just be busting the stupid dope moves like a knight or a bishop !!!
You guys LEGIT have the best films to react to. Not even about race honestly on my end, but the quality of storylines. The movies you guys react to are about quality to real life for many people. I see you guys going far with the channel 🔥❤️❤️
This movie haunted me as a child because of that basketball court scene where Curtis and Rosie get killed. I’ve learned to appreciate it so much more as an adult. One of the greatest movies ever IMO.
Smh Still pisses me off everytime I See that Scene Shit thats the Saddest scene of the Movie How he killed them Kids like that All Cuz he Was Hating and Getting whopped in Basketball
You guys have my utmost respect. This film is an absolute underrated classic. You do however lose Major points for suggesting “Breaking Bad” is better than “The Wire”. 😂
The Wire is the best series of all time. And Clockers is an overlooked classic. Spike Lee was a couple years late to the kid in the hood trend, but his entry is very, very strong.
Now Fresh was a good ass movie.. Glad you reacted to it... The point of killing the dog was that it actually belonged to Chucky and with him being dead Fresh couldn't take care of him and you can't just give a pitbull that has tasted blood to someone else.. It might wind up attacking them. So he had to put it down..
As the action is an obvious analogy to chess moves & strategy, I think people get confused about the final sacrifice. It was established that in-game Fresh was protective of his queen - his most valuable piece. But, as his father told him, all of the pieces are valuable and being willing to sacrifice them to protect your king and defeat your opponent is the goal. In this light, we can put aside gender, and realize that Fresh's "King" is his sister - this is what he is trying to protect at all costs. His most valuable sacrifice was his father. By going into witness protection, he'll likely never see him again, which is why he was crying at the end.
One of the best hidden gems of the "hood movie" genre. I've seen this like 30 times 'n no one else I know has ever even heard of it. I put this right up there with Boyz In the Hood and Menace to Society
One of my favorite movies from the '90s. Once I realized that the entire second half of the film was Fresh's chess match endgame against all the negative forces in his life, I was completely fascinated. I mean, once you realize that Fresh basically set Chuckie up to die, you see how deep the moves go and how ruthless he has to be.
He didn't set chucky up to die that was his friend he just talked a lot he told him to drop the gun and he was literally right there wit him trying to save him until he had to run off cuz chukys hand got stuck under the car tire
One of my top 5 movies I ever watched! Im so happy you guys watched it. Fresh was king his sister was his queen and chucky was his knight who ended up making himself a pawn....bro he used people as chess pieces and won his freedom from the streets. Best hood movie ever!!!!
First time I saw this was as a kid. I remembered the part where Curtis gets shot for cooking Jake in basketball. The next day, this older dude asked could he play on my basketball hoop in my backyard. I was reluctant cause I saw this the day before. I thought he was gone do the same thing to me because I was killing him on the court 😭😭. One of my favorite movies fellas. Keep doing what y’all do. You guys help me get through the day 💯
I literally felt fresh pain. Because I had a crush on that girl. When she died it crushed me. I was 8 when I seen this. This movie is my favorite movie. I can relate much because I was a child drug dealer at that time
If you like *Giancarlo Esposito* you'd probably enjoy *"Nothing to lose"* with Martin Lawrence and Tim Robbins. If you haven't already seen it. It's a comedy
I love Stewart Copelands score for this movie, which sets the scene. When you watch this film, you're in it with Fresh. It's so engrossing and intense, and it doesn't let up until the end.
My brother had an incident on the basketball court once that escalated. Won’t go into the story but he did his time and is now taking care of his wife and kids. You guys should watch Crooklyn another classic one of my all time faves

Another idea is TV shows like Living Single, Martin, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, In Living Color etc...
This was an EXCELLENT film. I feel it never has been revered as much as it should have been. I have no idea why more people haven't seen this movie. I think even the acting was superb. The young actor that played Fresh should have been Oscar nominated. He was so young and his acting was top tier. I'm glad you two watched. I rented this when i was 10 in 1994, i started selling weed in my neighborhood in Jamaica queens 3 years later,i sold for 2 different drug dealers and although i didn't put them at war against each other i was heavily inspired by Fresh
I really enjoy -- and value -- your "rambling", guys! Most of the movies you react to are my first time "watching" them, and often your rambling fills in some of the holes made by the editing (no criticism of your editing intended, Chris). I appreciate that you cut out the violence and gore that would have kept me from ever watching the movie, but you leave in enough and talk about it enough so I still know what happened. I was shocked to learn that the dog survived the fight, which I didn't know until you showed Fresh killing the dog. I've read lots of different takes in the comments on killing the dog, and they all seem valid to me.
The kid is such an amazing actor and hasnt done a lot since The Wood except mainly small roles but hope he comes back to a big name actor in the future !!!

Ironically enough the same lead in "Fresh" is the same lead child in "The Wood", both named Michael, guess the kid looks like a Michael

Playing both sides
sometimes you have to sacrifice a pawn
Fresh never set Chuckie up to die. Fresh specifically told Chuckie to drop the bag and run. But he wouldn't listen.
