Great reaction. A little backstory on Bishop: In the script, his father was raped in jail then treated like shit for it when he got out and descended into mental illness. A major factor in Bishop's motives was seeing how his father was treated and never wanting to allow himself to be treated the way his father was. Unfortunately they cut that backstory from the movie.

Pac's acting was phenomimal. You could already tell Bishop was a little unhinged when you spend a little time with him and once he gets that gun it just increases his psycho tendencies. Bishop wanted to be feared and respected and that gun gave him the power to achieve that
The thing is he always felt naked without a gun

It's funny because Omar played a character Quincy "Q" in both Juice and Love & Basketball
The saddest part is that Bishop had nothing to live for it’s why he was so reckless. Nobody to check on him, no boo, just Bishop and his dad who was very out of it. Bishop is also a cautionary tale against an unfocused or a non purpose driven mind.
He said at the beginning of the movie “I hope Tupac can act” by the end of the movie bishop is a murderer

The part when Bishop popped up behind the stairs at Steel's complex had all of us in the theatre jumping and gasping. Talk about a jump scare in a non-horror film.
This Bishop is something else
Bishop's father was raped in prison. Which was he had that traumatic trance in the beginning. That is referenced when Radames says to Bishop " You don't have to look no further than your Pops. My friends be telling me he likes being a prison yard hoe" Bishop suffers from that reputation because it makes him look soft by association which is why he's targeted by the gang. He compensates it by holding a gun because it gives him power (hence juice)
Although it's never revealed, but Q and Steele might go to prison due to their role in the robbery.
Btw the Dr. Dre you're thinking of wasn't in Juice, it was another Doctor Dre from NYC...

This is a good story of showing psychopathy. Starting off, Bishop just fantasizes about being the toughest (or getting “The Juice”) after his first murder, he’s addicted to the thrill and gradually becomes a full blown murderer. He has no problem with lying to Raheem’s own mother, showing something like sociopathy/psychopathy (regret-less liar) so when he says “I ain’t shit and I ain’t gon be shit” he means it. He truly doesn’t care for his fate. And the backstory is Bishop’s father has PTSD from being raped in prison. So, in the alternate Juice ending, when Bishop is hanging over the edge by Q’s hand, he hears police sirens coming and says “I ain’t going to jail” (remembering his father) then, let’s go of Q’s hand and kills himself.

My main take from this movie has always been about the struggles to be a man, to develop self respect, and to hold to your principals despite all the antagonism that life throws at you. Bishop represents the mentality and emotional state that many young men in certain neighborhoods develop when they can't develop self respect and hold to principals. Environmental factors that contributed to his inferiority complex: getting routinely jumped by rival crew; being told "you cant even walk down your own block"; seeing that other people with guns have power (i.e. police, store clerk). Bishop needed his friends to feel powerful or to feel like a man, which is why he grew most upset when Q and Steel didn't help him while getting pressed by rival crew. Since Bishop was using his friends to feel stronger and safer, one wonders if he was ever really their friend. You guys mentioned two key words: monster and mental illness (technically that's three words but whatever). But that's just it. Unguided youth, in a treacherous landscape, experiencing consistent and varied forms of trauma are more inclined to develop a mental illness or become... a monster. Q, on the other hand, represents both the struggles to not become a monster, but also to not become a victim or a pawn of someone else who's become a monster.
I love how the brothers started out so happy watching and bumping to the soundtrack then shit gets real... thats how it is in the hood. the people out on the street, you dont know where they mind is at. thats why these movies are so good. its real.
You know Khalil Kain (Raheem) was 27 in this movie. He looked SO young.
I can rave about this film all day, I absolutely love it. To keep from "ranting" I'll just say the entire cast did such an amazing job especially Tupac Shakur as Bishop he genuinely made you hate him. This is cult classic no matter how many times I watch it i still get the feeling I first did. Great reaction guys

These now "cult classics" were (are) such a reflection of what was going on and thankfully with voices like Spike Lee & John Singleton those voices were finally being heard but yes....the story let alone the endings rarely left us with the protagonist prospering. 💔

I always thought this was just a heartbreaking story, not a lot of people bring up mental health when it comes to this particular film but psychologically Bishop WAS NOT okay. Granted, he is definitely ruthlessly villainous trying to be the big guy on top only to go out in a big way but how he got that way...he didn’t even care about his friends or their lives, no regard for human life and no remorse.
Also funny that you guys noticed Donald Faizon from Scrubs, I only recognized him rewatching this a few years ago.

It’s common knowledge but Bishops father (seen at the start of the movie) was raped while in prison leading to the Puerto Rican kid to bully him about, which explains why Bishop is so hell bent on defending his manhood.. that sent him over the edge
JUICE was Tupac's first film. He would go on to star in POETIC JUSTICE with Janet Jackson, ABOVE THE RIM with Duane Martin and Marlon Wayans, BULLET with Mickey Rourke, GRIDLOCK'D, and GANG RELATED with James Belushi. In the end credits of JUICE, it is mentioned that Q went on to do special mixes for radio stations. That or he went on to be the main DJ for a radio station. So, Q ended up achieving his dream of being a DJ.
