    I have the Dewalt and I absolutely love it. My usage of it is almost everyday. The most important features are the lock and the low heat which I use more often. And the price is slightly lower, which is very important especially when your juniors break your tools from time to time and you have to buy new ones

    Hi Brian,
    I think DeWalt or any other Brand should make a cordless heat gun full size with a control temp knob and not just a high or low switch.
    I know it will be a larger version but nice to see if it will work close to a corded version. Time will tell, LOL...

    @Workshop Addict. Great review. I'm glad I bought the Dewalt 20V MAX cordless heat gun. I already have Dewalt's corded heat gun but I had some paint work to do on my cars and I don't have a garage or carport. I didn't want to run an extension cord out to the cars since the job took a few days and it rained off and on during this past late winter. I know how the corded Dewalt heat gun really draws alot of amperage. While the cordless heat gun runs through batteries as I was curing primer and paint, it got the job done and is very convenient.
    Hope you and your family stay safe and well.

    I like the DeWalt, but I own the Milwaukee currently. I went with it because I needed a heat gun for different projects like window tint, heat shrink, etc. It works perfectly fine for that. Personally I'd rather be holding the trigger instead of having a lock switch. Just what I need though. DeWalt's heat gun nonetheless is still nice though and I'm glad to see there are plenty of different options out there. And the fact that you don't need to be tethered to a cord is incredible.

    • @mikemorgan5015
      @mikemorgan5015 5 лет назад +4

      There are still limitations with battery operated tools. Compromises have to be made. Run time, temperature, airflow. Usually these type of compromises limit you to 2 out of 3 factors. With high temp AND high airflow, run time would suck. High runtime, high airflow then temperature is sacrificed. High runtime, high temp then airflow is lower. Good to see DeWalt pushing the envelope. It's clearly the better tool, but I've had my Milwaukee going on 2 years now. Milwaukee should come out with a Gen2 now. At least I hope they do. When companies one up the competition, it makes all of them better in the near future.

  • @toolcrazy88

    Great review as always. Does it work well for shrinking and forming window tint? I currently use a Freud hg100 heat gun. I’ve used almost every heat gun since I started window tinting in 1987. So the Freud’s variable temp control with a dial is the best heat gun I’ve used. Made in W. Germany. Can run all day with small breaks in between with no problems. Not sure if it’s still currently produced. Second best IMO is the older Blue Point ETB 1600, which has been discontinued. But can usually find them used. Current Blue Point models don’t seem to last.

    • @WorkshopAddict
      @WorkshopAddict  5 лет назад +1

      Unsure how this would work or last tinting all day. For the small stuff we do it rocks. But sometimes I want more airflow than what a battery model will give me. It will do what you want, but I am unsure if you will like it. It is the best battery heat gun I have used.

    I'm a window tinter by trade 24 years now & going i have used my fair share of heatguns & I came up with the idea of a cordless heatgun about 5 years ago. I successfully created one out of an old heatgun & a drill but never used it for tint. Then what do you know all of these tool companies is took my idea & ran with it.
    Anyhow I'm curious as to how well does the dewalt work for shrinking window tint? & as far as batteries would I need the bigger dewalt battery or would the smaller ones work. I already have some dewalt 20v brushless tools & wanted some more info on the heat gun for tinting.
    Any help there would be greatly appreciated.

    So I have the Dewalt heat gun for shrinking heat shrink terminals and tubing, and I have to say, I HATE it. I think it is my least used tool, even less than my glue gun. I think I must have a defective one. It gets hot but, it does not blow air enough. I think I am going to get a new Dewalt and see if it is just broken. I was looking to see if the Milwaukee is better but now I am just thinking i may have a bad unit. Although, when you did your heat shrink in the video, it was about as slow as it is for me. I can do it with corded heat gun in like 3 seconds.

  • @Silverheart1956
    @Silverheart1956 Год назад

    I took my battery to the store to use with the Dewalt heat gun they had on display. I was disappointed with the volume of air flowing out of the heat gun. I expected more air. That disappointment was the major reason I decided not purchase the Dewalt heat gun.
    I do not know the model number of the Dewalt heat gun that I tried out and I wonder if there is more than one model available. If Dewalt makes a model of heat gun that produces a higher volume of air than the one I tested, then I would be interested.
    I may consider one of the other heat guns that works with Dewalt batteries, particularly since they as less pricy

    One of the things not mentioned is the battery pack. A Manufacturer can give you what you want with 18650 Batteries delivering 3.5 Volts at...get this...40 Amps!! Continuously. Each.
    A power pack probably has 4 of these cells. These are the batteries used in Electric Cars and by Vapers to make Clouds. They typically cost around $15 each and have protection circuitry.
    Power is no problem. The issue is that Thermal Circuits are possibly the harshest thing for a battery to handle. This type of demand does damage to the battery slowly which is cumulative over time inevitably leading to battery failure. Milwaukee batteries should last longer with a lower draw. Having said this clearly Milwaukee missed the boat by not providing hi/lo function.

    As of May 2020 this DeWalt gun is still $199 on Amazon. I could potentially buy an appropriate 12v inverter and hardwire it into my 99 Camry. (Inverter for $150 + materials & install)
    I'm a remote technician and sometimes I do 5 Samsung screen replacements in my car per day. To safely remove the backglass of a Samsung, you need a lot of heat. The extension cord works when it works, but I need a backup. I run my heat gun at 1500w for 7-10 minutes 2x. If anyone has a suggestion between the DeWalt, an inverter setup, or something else, let me know thx

      You get much more cfm and heat from a plug in heat gun. If you need a good amount of heat and air flow, go with the inverter.

    Gl I’ve never used a cordless heat gun but it seems kinda dumb to have a battery powered heat gun it’s like using a battery power sotoring iron, but who am I because I’ve never used them lol

      Says 42 mins on low with 5ah battery in description.

      I did not tackle that because of how many batteries it would take to figure and the fact that the duty cycle is 60 minutes in 2 hours. It would have taken me days. 30 minutes on high with the 6.0 Ah 20 volt and it was about dead.

      WorkshopAddict that’s impressive. I thought it would be a lot shorter. Thanks for the info.

    Milwaukee tool, was their compact version, not a fair comparison. Dewalt products are decreasing in sales. I'll take the Milwaukee every day. Dependable tools.

      No it's not.I have both platforms and they're just as good.No issues whatsoever with any Dewalt,but have trigger issues and overheating on my brand new gen 3 hammer drill.Don't tell me about warranty,i live in Europe ,we don't have the same no questions asked policy like you have in US.And here Milwaukee is twice if not more the price you have in US.
