Some book to start are Epictetus manual, The Thoughts of Marcus Aurelius or anything written by Seneca. Those aren't specifical books to achieve the tipe of success that the society presents you as good, but the give a very alternative and useful vision about life. If you enjoy reading this classics I also suggest you to keep going and read others philosophical book. There are many practical philosophy book, they are just not well known. Philosophy isn't only abstract thinking and impractical, but it will remain like that if don't go deep. Keep searching virtue and most importantly apply it, you can do it.

It is so true. You can no longer be just an average guy. I'm a young guy, living in Poland, and even if I earn more than an average wage I'm still terrified about the economical situation of my country, my close friends. Majority of people living a normal life, doing a normal jobs are not able to rent an apartment by their own and even with a partner it is hard. Planning to buy an apartment? People no longer have possibility to take a loan and the installments went like crazy, sometimes 2 as high as they were earlier. And that's only the accommodation problems. So living with a parents become the reality for a lot of young people now. I'm open to meet new girls, dating, working out, improving myself, overcoming fears, depression, but still got rejected a lot, not even close to kiss a girl for a couple of years now. Damn, and I see it's so hard now with all those connections with sm, tinder, feeling that there are like unlimited options to meet better person. Yes even looking for an average girl. But it's just life, I don't want to give up, with each girl I'm closer to the one I could build a relationship with. So I'm still trying even if it's hard, and often painful. I think it's a bit of both. There are indeed a lot of people who have a somewhat idealized image of the 50's, but at the same time, I also think that most reasonable people understand that the 50's weren't perfect.
