This cover was a lot of fun to make because Thursday is one of my favorite bands, and they also happen to be from my native NJ. Full Collapse was an extremely formative album for early 00's emo and it was probably my most listened-to album from that era.
A few hiccups here and there but overall I think I did pretty well (for a 2nd take). The stick drop obviously was not intentional and I tried to pick it up and play through it which I think I succeeded in doing. I also experimented a bit in mic placement and added some snare dampening as well, I think the sound in this one is the best it's been so far, working with as little mics as I have at the moment.

"Real Emo" only consists of the dc Emotional Hardcore scene and the late 90's Screamo scene. What is known by "Midwest Emo" is nothing but Alternative Rock with questionable real emo influence. When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical Romance (plus the pretentiousness). Real emo sounds ENERGETIC, POWERFUL and somewhat HATEFUL. Fake emo is weak, self pity and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music. Some examples of REAL EMO are Pg 99, Rites of Spring, Cap n Jazz (the only real emo band from the midwest scene) and Loma Prieta. Some examples of FAKE EMO are American Football, My Chemical Romance and Mineral EMO BELONGS TO HARDCORE NOT TO INDIE, POP PUNK, ALT ROCK OR ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM GENRE

Daniel Kane that’s a pretty subjective opinion my dude. As much as I can understand where you’re coming from I can imagine you haven’t really talked to many people from the early emo scene. My dad was a part of the hardcore and emo scenes in the late 80s and early 90s, was in an emo band with Fred Mascherino of Taking Back Sunday fame in the early 90s called Brody(if you’re curious about that look up the creep records comp “who gits da deer”), and he listens to a good bit of stuff along the lines of Sunny Day, and refers to all that as emo. But at least you, me, and my dad can all agree that bands like MCR and even my dads ex band mates claim to fame are a bunch of fake emo wannabe bs. To me I look at it the same way as I look at hardcore, it started out as one thing and evolved into a bunch of different offshoots of each other, some which sound nothing like the original.

Tucker Rule is hell of una underrated drummer. I really think his technique is flawless, one of the few drummers where every fill feels like every hit to the snare is tought and pulled off marvelously.
