Absolutely phenomenal video. This is so simple but so often missed by most people... not just people in the business/consulting world. Imagine how useful this would be in helping people with their relationships? With themselves? With their beliefs? Without clear thought, what do you really even have?
Its criminal that this sort of thing isn't being taught in K-12 around the world

Top tip for my fellow dyslexics: Pen and paper is optional for step one. I record myself speaking aloud and review the transcription or get an AI to summarise it.

I’m not dyslexic but writing things down with pen and paper is an extreme source of friction for me. I might try this especially since I’m trying to get more comfortable on camera. Might be a win win.

I appreciate this video, and here’s my summary:
The most valuable kind of thinking isn’t ‘thinking in frameworks’; it’s the vague, unstructured, often messy kind. This initial thinking is rarely fully articulated and doesn’t fit into predefined structures.
From here, there’s a process of refining these emergent insights, making them explicit by carefully articulating ideas without relying on frameworks. This process involves iteratively clarifying and expressing ideas until they’re captured in just the right words.
Frameworks come in only afterward, helping organize these insights to create structure. This makes communication clearer and easier to manage.
Effective communication mirrors this process. We begin by presenting a problem, prompting others to tap into implicit thinking. This eventually brings key insights to the surface, making the solutions we propose more viable and relatable. In the final stage, frameworks help by providing concrete steps to implement the solutions that have emerged.

    Step 1: Unstructured Articulation
Purpose: Capture initial thoughts in their raw form, before organizing or filtering them.
Method: Set a timer and write continuously for one minute. Focus on getting all thoughts out, which can reveal concerns and ideas hidden behind general feelings of overwhelm.
Outcome: This step clarifies what’s actually on your mind by translating vague, electric signals (thoughts) into words. It allows you to surface priorities and issues that need further thought, clearing mental clutter.
    Step 2: Structured Articulation
Purpose: Organize thoughts into a coherent structure using frameworks.
Method: Apply a relevant structure (e.g., the Pyramid Principle, What-Why-So What) based on your audience’s needs and the situation’s demands.
Outcome: Organizing thoughts allows you to clearly convey the main message and supporting details in a logical flow, making it easier for others to understand and act on your insights.
    Practical Frameworks for Structured Thinking:
Pyramid Principle: Begin with your main point, followed by key supporting arguments and details.
What-Why-So What: State what your recommendation is, why it matters, and why it’s relevant.
    Audience Awareness:
Use gap analysis to determine the audience’s current understanding and focus your articulation accordingly. The "Awareness Framework" (from unaware to plan aware) helps tailor communication to the audience’s level of awareness and knowledge needs, from defining problems to detailing actionable plans.

So true, if you see the Beatles videos where they developed new songs, you'd find them bringing out the idea by singing nonsense lyrics, they clearly didn't skip step 1(for eg, check the development of Octopus Garden, and in the part where George is helping ringo take the song further but the lyrics weren't obviously ready, still they articulated the music with piano and fuzzy lyrics, and the rest was history). And we obviously know John for singing nonsense lyrics whenever he forgot it.

This video explains a two-step process to articulate thoughts clearly, inspired by a McKinsey partner, a critical thinking educator, and Stanford methodology.
Step 1 is unstructured articulation, which involves translating vague thoughts into words. This can be done by setting a timer for 1 minute and writing down everything on your mind without worrying about structure or clarity. This helps to understand what you're actually thinking, think deeper, and think faster on your feet.
Step 2 is structured articulation, which involves simplifying, prioritizing, and structuring your thoughts. This can be done by using frameworks like the pyramid principle or the what-why-so-what structure. The choice of structure depends on the audience and their needs.
The video also provides a framework for understanding the audience's needs, which involves identifying their current state, desired future state, and the gap between the two. The awareness framework can then be used to determine the audience's level of awareness about the problem, solution, and plan. This helps to tailor the presentation to the audience's specific needs.

I have enjoyed the benefits of unclear speech. Managers should fight shoplifters when security does so. Laah is the word for No and for Bad, they're same. Dajaj daamat is cold chicken. Zoj Zhadeeth is new husband. I can't just advertise almunashiitat.
