God bless you ❤
I really like the respect the irish have for there elders.
I have no connection to this whatsoever, but i find myself coming back time after time.
I absolutely love this. We played it at my father’s funeral, he loved the song. 🏴🇮🇪
My grandmother was born in Athenry, it was her favourite song, played at her funeral in Athenry sung by her nephew! Was magical
It's the strength in our green blood 👊
It's the spiritual warmth it offers
People relaxed and harmonizing together in homely settings
,the unionist brigade hate this song, they don’t want to understand the truth what the English did to the Irish,,,
I'm an American, born and raised in Texas, but there's something about Irish music that just sings to my soul.
It comes from the heart and sings to the soul.
What I would give to witness that👏
I miss Ireland so much....lived there betwen 2005-2017....spent few days with irish fans during euro 2012 ....great People...great Country...Erin go Bragh ! and greetings from Poland
Greetings from Galway xx

I am English, my wife is half Irish and I really long to visit old Ireland. I will get there soon, before it's lost forever.
@@tubemonkswhere is it going?
Paddy signs this song like nobody else will ever be able to. What a Legend. The respect that Glen shows him in this video is lovely to see.
Agree,
I was thinking the same. Touching to see the respect Glen and the other younger musicians show for the legend.
❤❤
I agree - Mega respect
There will never be another Paddy Reilly and that makes me sad.
Paddy is like wine ...he gets better with age.
I love Irish people and music 💚☘! Love from Croatia 🇭🇷
The harmony the punters are doing in the chorus is giving my shivers
This was at a pub, following the funeral of Pete St. John. So many tributes for one of the best Irish songwriters, EVER.
LEGEND💚☘️🇮🇪
What a great way to remember their deceased friend, singing his song with friends.
just brilliant
how proud and free spirited can a folk be ? 👉🏼 the Irish 🇮🇪 … Paddy Reilly 🫂
A living Legend! Paddy! With respect and admiration! ❤
Scouser here, Irish stock. I’m crying my eyes out every funereal I here this…up the toffees ☘️
What is it about the Irish who are blessed with this amazing spirit of music and song? I "speak" music and I listen to music from all corners of the world. I'm not Irish but the Irish take the cake! ❤️
It's coming from the heart of our soul. If you attend an Irish wake/funeral , laments and ballads will be the order of the day.
You’re absolutely right. When it comes to music and soul we can not be beaten 🥰😜
Well I think it was experiencing such "Hard Times&Hardship" that provided the inspiration!! ☘️👍
If you go to the Maritime provinces in eastern Canada each house has gifted musicians like this.
Celtic roots...
Legend s singing in a pub nothing better
Respect from Irish-American
STILL THE BEST version of the song, wishing you paddy the very best of health & happiness from us all ❤️
Only he can do this song justice,I only wish I could have been there
Ireland v Spain in Sopot when we were losing 4-0 with the game almost done, the crowd started up " The Fields of Athenry" and we sang with all our hearts. The passion of Irish signing will change this World.
Nobody comes near his version.
This song was my big cousin funeral 💔 wish that I was with my big cousin kerry in Billy boy my nana grandad my Auntie's in my hero my dad wish I was up there with use all missing use ever single day 💔💔💔💔
@@freesovereignsydney9260 The stadium where the match was played is located in Gdańsk, not in Sopot. These two adjoining cities, together with Gdynia, form the so-called Tricity (Trójmiasto), but they should not be confused.
I remember singing this song at botany bay many yrs ago as a migrant bairn with my family born n bred in Scotland xx but I carry my wee Irish granny's name with so much pride u wanted that ship to take us home again in the song that was 61 yrs ago I love Australia but my heart is in the highlands and memories of Ireland .. this has touched me deeply watching a tribute to an absolute legend ♥️ god bless you all and thankyou for taking me home ❤️ in this song ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️♥️♥️
How many memories come to my mind!!!.Nicest people in the world!!!. My BEST wishes from Spain
Paddy reilly no question the best.
Paddy sang this song thousands of times but this time is one of the most emotional. With all the friends!!!!
From the Berbers of great Mountains of Atlas in Morocco...GOD BLESS IRELAND.
You Irishmen are so damn lucky. You have the best folk music in the world. Timeless and alive. And this tune really rips me apart. I knew it by heart 30 years ago when I thought I can learn to guitar.
Unfortunately the government our flooding our country now with people from the dark continents.
We will go the way of the rest of western Europe.

I’m English but love Irish folk music, you fellers really sing from the heart.

Paddy is a treasure. What a beautiful voice.
If I could hang out with people like this and experience such a magical moment I’d probably go to the bar more often.
Me too......
Makes me cry every time I hear this. Makes me think especially of my lovely dad who was a Donegal man
A legend singing ...❤❤❤❤
I feel like the pub music session is the most profound and beautiful exemplar of Irish culture.
When the craic and laughter of a Dublin evening subsides into a deep, sorrowful, intimate but hopeful communion. I haven’t been at one in a good long while. I hope to before I ever forget the feeling.
The Irish are a beautiful people, a true gift to the world. RIP to your friend.
OK OK OK. I know many versions of this song. But this is home
Paddy still claims the definitive version of The Fields. What a voice!
Oh my - how lucky is everyone there listening to Paddy Reilly
Class❤
Paddy is a legend.
Years ago I interviewed Pete St John for a newspaper, I asked him something like 'How to you go about writing a song like 'Athenry?', he replied 'Jasus, if I knew that I'd be knocking them out everyday!' R.I.P Pete x.
As a kid who grew up in NY and all he wanted to do was follow his grandparents footsteps home to Ireland, this hits home. Every single holiday ends with this version of the song and that will never change
Absolutely Legend God bless the Irish ☘️
Beautiful, beautiful, BEAUTIFUL!
Totally love the Irish people, love their music and their amazing friendship.
Wonderful rendition young man,THANK YOU.

What a beautiful rendition. Paddy's version easily my favourite. From one on the shores of Botany Bay
Bring a tear to a glass eye. Beautiful. Slainte!
What great respect for the old master. Especially the hushing in the beginning shows all you need to know about the Irish soul
Paddy may well have given his most heart felt performance here, the rousing voices of his fellow musicians make this a very memorable performance.
Such beautiful respect shown to the elders
It was a privilege to play alongside this legend 😊
With pub was this filmed?
God bless you, Paddy!
Absolutely beautiful 🙂
Absolutely incredible!!!! I'm an American but my roots are Irish, and I couldn't be happier after hearing this ❤️❤️🤘🤘
Glen Hansard what a gent
Nice to see a country that has every generation in touch and in love with their past. Or educational system in the USA has made sure we no longer do.
Paddy Riley A total legend
Paddy Reilly, what a singer he was and still is! That is a voice that tells a story, that digs deep into your soul. So lovely to hear this legend still singing so well.
❤
It’s been so long since we’ve heard from paddy. Glad to see he’s still ready to sing a song or two
and his voice is still amazing.
I live and work in Svalbard arcipelago, and of all kind of music, we have groupe named "Irsk gruppe Longyearbyen" (translated Irish groupe Longyearbyen) We are at the most 9 members with guitars, violin, keyboard, bass, fluite and accordeon. This membership has given me a new look to Your fantastic musicworld. Your music and songs tuch our hearts, and the greatest of all must be to visit Your country and join You in a place like this video shows us! Greatfully thanks to You!
The Irish don’t only sing, the feel the words and the music
Beautiful, brings tears running down my face as my dad, good rest him loved it,,😢😢😢
Early here in the UK but this rendition of this song is bringing tears to my eyes.
I have a bit of Irish in me on my dad's side but my mum was Scottish through and through and when I was told she was days away from dying I was given end of life visitations due to covid restrictions. I played this song for her on my ukulele and it kept her going for another seven months.!
That's really lovely. Special moments with special people. May she rest in peace.
@@brianbyrne3003 thank you , she is now at rest on the Malvern hills but I have some ashes left to do a road trip with her which will involve Scotland and Ireland and also London as bringing our family together has revealed some fascinating history that revealed that we have Viking in the blood line but amazingly also real bona fide Cocknies as well ! What a mix !!!!
@peacelily music is about bringing people together, not dividing them through past conflict. When remembering the fallen, it’s not the place to do it. Janet Schwartz, God bless you and your family.
@Peacelily Forgive me for saying this, but your grasp of Scot's history is lacking. My roots are "green" but due respect to the Scots.
well done you 🇮🇪 🏴
Go On Paddy you legend 💚☘️

Good Man Paddy
Outstanding 👍🇺🇲☘️🇮🇪✝️ For your great help " ?

What would I have paid to be there that day? Paddy Reilly, Pete St John, Glen Hansard we salute you! Thanks for sharing.
Thats the most in tune pub ive had the pleasure to hear...❤️💯
Best country and people in the world❤❤❤
I gotta say, I was in Ireland for 3 and a half weeks recently. I traversed the country and been in lots of newspapers and radio interviews as a Bono impersonator. What a wild experience it was. I sang in pubs with local musicians all over. And thinking I understood the Irish that much better. Yes, I did, but nothing like the education I'm reminded that the tunes and singalongs in the pubs are really an extraordinary event if you open yourself up to the power of song. I wish this would happen all over the world. The Dubliners themselves were really an amazing musical force that put the Irish that much farther on the map. RIP members who've passed on. Their contributions to humanity is in every word sung of these tunes through out the world. We have been blessed to have modern technology fall in love with this culture over and over again.
Lo lie the fields of athernry xx
