I use that pico scope at work for diagnosing power supply issues for hpcr diesel computers. The current software is every bit as good as what snapon offers in the vantage. The ability to capture your waveform is great for sending in for warranty claims. These computers shut down if they lose power for one millisecond and when you have power losses of just slightly over that time it causes all sorts of regen and drivability problems. Stuff so short even a Fluke can’t catch. The Pico is fantastic.

"the venerable 1008c..." describes it well. It's been the beginner scope for many. Sure, they all progress to more expensive scopes later but it's where they got their start.

This was an interesting video, I had a 1008c a few years ago, Purley because of its price.
I had a Nissan X trail that wouldn't start, I needed a scope to sync a fuel injector with the relative compression, it proved the injectors were firing at the wrong time. That car had previously been around lots of other garages and an auto electrician.
I was pleased with the scope, but eventually wanted something better, I made the mistake of buying a hantek 6204be that was not much different.
Now I have finally ordered a picoscope, from what I have seen, it's ability to take a Picket fence image and zoom in to a single event, is something hantek can't do.
Great video mate, I've been looking forward to this.

Mechanic Matt It was your early videos that influenced my decision to buy the 1008C. Even though I already had the 2204A. The 8 channels appealed to me at that price point. I owe you a debt of gratitude. Between you and Dave (and others) I have learned a great deal. So thank you Matt and Cheers

Thanks, I think we all are learning all the time from our own experiences, and because we share videos we all learn together. If that makes sense.
I just didn't want people to get the slightly more expensive hantek when there is almost no difference to the cheaper one.
      Thanks Ian

    Thanks for this comparison video.
I'm looking at buying my very first scope and looked at both of these. I was leaning towards the pico but was considering the Hantek because of it being 8 channeland thinking it might be handy if I get on well with scopes however I think I'll be going for the pico because if I do get on well enough to need 8 channels I'll probably want a more capable scope.

I will agree that HANTEX is really the true entry level scope but like life you have to learn to crawl first before you can run.
If your getting a scope you are giing to do this to make money and help with your diagnostic skills but i am lookimg to step up my game to get a scope but first i made sure i had a good base first.
This is why i say this. I have one customer that has a used car dealership and I do lots of work for him. He has a guy with a scope and every time he has done a job for him and well one job he did a relative compression test told my customer that his missfire was because of a bad injector replace the injector and it will be fixed. Took his money and left.
I get a call to come replace the injector so i go and listen to the truck and told him just by listening it is not the injector.
He still told me to replace it so i did and it did not change same problem.
I did a compression test the cylinder had 0 for compression knowing that ford 3 valve are not a good design i opened up the valve cover and found that cylinder the valves dynamited nothing was wrong with the injector.
So yes these are grate tools but first remember that mechanical parts can make electrical parts act different to

Hi....My Hantek 1008 runs on version 1.0.30. As far as the Pico 2204a is concerned the S/W (and H/W) is far better. If the limitation of only 2 channels is not an issue for you it’s a great scope. And a current clamp (CC-65) is super useful when your budget allows. Hantek Part numbers are provided (reasonable quality/price) but they can be had from many other sources. Cheers
