Fantastic video thanks. Very informative for a new scope user. I know you said you wont tell how to get the automotive option for the 2204a but coukd you point me in the right direction to research it myself? I have been google searching for ages and no luck as of yet. For a new user like my self tryings to gmset the scope up for different tests is the biggest problem. Maybe i should have spent the extra cash and bought the automotive product but its a lot of money for a hobby mechanic to outlay. Thanks for your content i have subscribed and look forward to new videos
Very well done Dave. Some nice details I was frankly unaware of. I use my Hantek mostly to prove the point that even the low end scopes can provide more utility than most people can exploit. Skill and knowledge is the limitation for most (me included) not the spec. of the scope. Case in point is the amazing work Mechanic Matt has done in the past with some very modest gear. For the money 2204A a bargain at twice the price! Cheers Pal
You'll have to show us more of that 8channel you got. Yeah indeed ive found big specs are not reqd for auto applications and more use and play gives results. I like Matts approach, finding problems thru understanding. Cherrs dave
Thanks for the review. Is it possible to decode serial digital bytes also with the analog probes? I don't want to buy a full MSO model, the price difference is too high. 2204A should be enough for my basic hobbyist-level Arduino and sensor tinkering needs if only it supports basic digital serial decoding with analog probes.
thank you very much dave for sharing this , i have an two channel scope made by sykes pickavant but pico still big daddy even this 2000 series when come to details and specification .
Hi Soran, i would recommend a 4 channel 2000 series. You dont need a big specification for most automotive work. Use the software the way i show in the video. Cheers dave
Great demo Dave, this has been my go to scope for quite a while now, I did attempt to replace it with an Autel (MP408? I think) but honestly the 2205 out performs it in most situations. Plus the money I spent on the Autel would have been better saved towards the 4425, there's a lesson in there for someone if they want to learn from my mistake!
Dave, under preferences there is a Sampling tab. It appears you can change the transition to slow sampling to 100 ms instead of 200 ms. Might give that a try.
Hi Dave great video. Pico automotive software can you use this on the relative compression software with the graphic I think it has a battery testing function.6. software. or do you have to buy the automotive scope
@@davesterl I've seen yours other Pico vid that's great. it got me looking at Pico and may be looking at this option as the automotive scope is to expensive for me
@@beetboob I bit the bullet on the 4425A; I did not include any accessories as I plan to re-use the ones that I already have and are less inexpensive than the ones offered at pico for $52 bucks a pop. I can easily get them for about 18 at Amazon (Hantek) which are good quality probes. If all goes well, I will invest on those nice clamps but I will use my Hantek for now, they work great so far. The main reason I invested on this was to have access to the library waveform for references on good known and to start building my database as well. I almost purchased the Pico WPS500X but decided to step back and get the PV500 from Fluke.

Hi also gonna make a pressure transducer like yours on video I've received the pressure transducer and there is no diagram to tell u which wire is signal, earth and 5v its blue a brown and black with a little white plug would you be able to do a video showing how u made in box as I wonder if I could do a 12v and earth to connect to battery instead of 9v battery to 5v regulater ? Regards danny ambulance tech keep up the great videos
hi sir! i'm just new to oscilloscope i purchase a hantek 2d82 auto but when i try to check a primary ignition signal from a coil on plug coil no signal detected i put the right lead and 20:1 attenuator but no signal any suggestion sir? thank you and god bless to your channel.
Hi dave I've got one of them pico 2204a and I wondered if you knew that you can create your own wave signals am a technican at Yorkshire ambulance and used it today to test signal wire on a throttle body to see if it changed on pid on scanner also used to test abs senser wires cam and crank found this out on a guy I watch on utube as automotive picos dont have this and it's amazed they dont so I think for that its absolute bargain scope for 99 quid
Yeah for nearly 100 quid and has the AWG as well a lad at work has just payed 1800 quid for a second hand modis and scope is nowhere as good only thing I like with snap on u can flick between scope and scanner
Find the items that are used on the Dave Sterl channel in the Amazon shop.

Excellent video with great info. As I am looking at a Pico 2204A, aHantek 1008C or Hantek 6074BE. Thanks for taking the time to share. Cheers

Hey Dave with this scope what leads do you recommend to capture a secondary waveform from coil on plugs system. Thanks!

Do you need the 4channels, Richard?

also it can't detect a signal in can bus but when i try in a lin bus it can detect. or am using it incorrectly?

cheers Dave, must give that a try, good name btw
Had a look at that and the sampling is set minimum for a particular device. The 2204a is 200ms
Well it was worth a try. Thanks for taking the time to verify the setting can't be lowered to 100 ms.
