I saw a video on twitter of someone cooking with sand and wasn't sure if it was real. I did a quick search and found your video. Always fascinating to learn about older cooking techniques that are still in use today, thank you for the video!
Thank you for the detail description. I've only just discovered this is a thing! Good to know about if cooking products become hard to get. I'm going to get myself some sand anyway. I want to try this out.
This is one of the best tutorial videos, all instruccions are clear, and you show everything you did to the sand, I wasn't even interested in cleaning sand, but now I do want to try sand cooking.
I don't think they sell sand for cooking and if they do, I don't know where it is sold. I got mine from the beach and cleaned it for use. Sharp sand can be bought from places like Home Depot, Lowe's or any home improvement store. I am sure you can also buy it from Amazon but clean it before use. Thanks for watching.
can we possibly make puffed rice with this sand? is safe to eat the rice when heating up with this sand? and did you get this sand on a beach is it safe to do that?
I got the sand from the beach and it is safe. I have never made puffed rice but if it is made with hot sand why not? If you are concerned with the safety of the sand, I will advise you to buy safe sand from wherever it is sold. Thanks for watching.
@@SpicyDeliciousGoodness Thank you for your reply! I have no idea where it is sold, I will use your way! What kinds of foods did you make with the sand may I ask? It would be so cool to see a video about that
@@sums2117 I have made one video about it. It is "how to roast peanuts with sand." You can roast potatoes or yams with sand. You can even use it to bake stuff. Pour the sand into a pot and heat it up then place whatever you want to bake on top and cover it to trap the heat. It is as good as using the oven.
Do you need water or oil to roast/bake anything? You can with sand. People cook with sand. You just have to google it and see how it is used. Start with hot sand.
Good point. You are right but soap in addition to killing microbes, cleans the sand. I am sure you have heard of oil spills in oceans and seas. The soap takes care of that. Thanks for watching.
This removes all the water bears...lol. Thanks for the video I was trying to find a way to clean sand for my grandchildren to play with indoors while it's freezing outside. This was so interesting because I did not know people cooked and sand
Americans throw whole plates away if a tiny fly or dirt gets on the food. it would be hard to make this a thing here. i don't mind cause my parents came from the jungle and i was brought up not giving a fxxx if it doesn't kill me at least.
Well some people would want to use sand but are worried about things done on sand. That is why I made the video to show them how to clean the sand before use so that they can have peace of mind.
A few drops of soap will not remove the natural flavor nor will baking soda and vinegar. In fact baking soda and vinegar can add flavor to the sand. The more you cook with the sand the more flavorful it becomes. Thanks for watching.
How is hydrogen peroxide safer? Hydrogen peroxide can be used as a disinfectant but people are warned to use it cautiously. All the things I used are safer and with no side effect.
Thanks for watching. Please subscribe, like and share the video. Thanks in advance.

This video is amazing for many reasons.
Thanks so much.

Impressive, definitely I'll try
Thanks so much
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial!
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video. I'm going to try roasting coffee like this.
Sounds great!
Very nice
Thanks
So, how many times could you re-use that sand you just cleaned? And besides popcorn what else could you use? Thanks 😊
You can reuse it as many times as possible. It does not change. You can use peanuts or any nuts of your choice. Thanks for watching.
Where can I buy sand for cooking? Grew up in Mali and loved peanuts cooked in sand

Can I use this kind of sand to make popcorn?
I have never used sand to make popcorn so I am not sure if this is the right sand for it. Thanks for watching.
Hi nice video
Thanks
Can the sand hold better hear than other medias such oil, water?
Why do people want to use sand for cooking?
Do you need water or oil to roast/bake anything? You can with sand. People cook with sand. You just have to google it and see how it is used. Start with hot sand.
I want to eat this sand right now its looks beautiful. I love sand
Thank you.
Is it safe to eat sand?
That is very fascinating! I wonder what the people used before liquid soap existed!
Can I use any type of sand or is sand from oceans just better?
Sharp sand is generally used for cooking, that is the type of sand you get from the river or beach. Thanks for watching.
Mix backing soda with vinegar is usless bc they cancling each other
Okay, got it. Thanks for watching.
Clean it, what would survive in that after I put it under the fire????
You don't have to clean it if you don't want to.
Can you fried a fish with a sand?
No but you could bake it in sand after wrapping it in leaves or foil
Couldn't you just heat it in the oven to sterilize?
Heat does not remove the chemical. Thanks for watching.
Why add soap? heating it to 500-º will take care of any "microbes" or any other living thing in it.
Good point. You are right but soap in addition to killing microbes, cleans the sand. I am sure you have heard of oil spills in oceans and seas. The soap takes care of that. Thanks for watching.
@@SpicyDeliciousGoodness Geez. Good answer! I too had thought the soap was redundant till I saw your response.

doesnt the sand get into the food
Depending on what you are cooking and how you are cooking it. Thanks for watching.

So you kill the sand actually and it took soap flavor and lost natural flavor too much chemicals to clean 😢
A few drops of soap will not remove the natural flavor nor will baking soda and vinegar. In fact baking soda and vinegar can add flavor to the sand. The more you cook with the sand the more flavorful it becomes. Thanks for watching.
there is a more effective and safer way to clean the sand. with hydrogen peroxide.
How is hydrogen peroxide safer? Hydrogen peroxide can be used as a disinfectant but people are warned to use it cautiously. All the things I used are safer and with no side effect.
