Just purchased a bamboo steamer and they don't give such instructions so thank you for informing us. It irritates me that manufacturers don't bother to send proper instructions, specially when it comes to getting rid of the chemicals. Thank you 🇧🇷
Wahoooo! Just purchased bamboo streamer yesterday and I wondered if there was a process. Thank you the clear explanation and demonstration. You’re wonderful
Thank you Eddy for explaining all this, I never would have known without your video. I'll be getting my bamboo steamer this week and now I know how to be able to use it for a very long time 😊 Un Saludo from Spain!
Thank you! I got my steamer about a month ago and didn't prepare it like you did here, or oil it because I didn't know....there was no info about how to season etc. I've only used it a few times so I will go ahead and do this pretreat/season process anyway - better late than never. Your advice is very logical.
I just bought a bamboo steamer for dumplings and other vegetables. I now know how to clean, season and store my steamer before the first use. Thank you.
Hi Thomene. I'm curious, what size (diameter and height) is your mini-steamer. And do you protect it some how in your backpack so that it doesn't get crushed? Thanks!
I just bought a bamboo steamer for my first time ever. The chemicals were thick yellow and stinky in my wok as I washed the baskets off. I used extra virgin olive oil and my baskets are drying now for the next 24 hours. I'll use them tomorrow to make some dumplings. Thank you so much for the very clear instructions! I'll make sure to re-oil the baskets after every use. I appreciate your advice!!! 👍😊
I just ordered my very first bamboo steamer. I was curious how to clean and maintain it so I googled to find out. I'm so glad I found your video. Great tips. Thank you so much.
Thx for the info in this video, I would recommend to change the water multiple times for the first step. I did it 3 times and dryed it in the oven between to gez rid of the chemicals.
Great information, My girlfriend got one for Christmas this year and can't wait to use it! Greatly appreciate your tips and in depth explanation of your techniques.
Tomorow I get my first steamer. Im european and the steaming method looks so calming, but its new land for me. Thanks to you, i will not eat the mystery chemicals. Didn't know i must wash with boiling water. Thank you for the storing tip too. Searched some time for clear instructions.👍
Thank you soooo much! I just bough mine few minutes ago and wanted to treat it properly. Your video and tips really helped me. Have a nice and lovely life ☺️👌🏻
Just bought a bamboo steamer! We keep kosher since my partner is Jewish and the way you kasher pots/pans/silverware is sticking them in boiling water for ~15 seconds. Or with big things we also do the submerge a section for 15 seconds and then keep rotating it until everything has been covered. Tried this method since this made the most sense to me with cleaning and adding oil to the bamboo steamer. Hoping my bamboo steamer lasts a long time!! Excited to steam veggies and meats in a more grouped manner - we had one of those that sit at the bottom of the pot and you throw all the veggies in but everything didn’t really steam that well that way. Hoping if I have tiers of baskets it might have more open space around the veggies to steam properly. Thanks!!!!
@@abuumm_munazm Hi, I don’t speak Russian but used an online translator to try to understand the question. I think you’re asking if the steamers stick together with plastic? My bamboo steamers have metal rings that have a lip that’s narrower than the perimeter of the basket so the next tier is slightly bigger than the lip so they don’t fall off when moving the baskets together around. I don’t have plastic in my bamboo steamer set - just bamboo and metal rings.
I recently bought a bamboo steamer and I thought that the dust hairs on the steamer were mold growing out so I got very frustrated thinking I was doing something wrong and I wound up putting heat too high that now one of the lids for the steamer is a bit burnt. To say that I have learned a lot from owning a bamboo steamer is an understatement I'm still a bit afraid to use it right now even tho I have given it thorough washing of vinegar and virgin olive oil but I am far from giving up. Maybe not now good time to start but no giving up
Hello Eddy, Thank you for this very clear video. I have a brand new bamboo steamer. I rewatched your video and realized I need to redo the initial curing process. My question is, how often would I need to refresh the curing process with the oil? Thank you!
Thank you so much for this! My question is, how/where do I store my steamer and wok, because I have a tiny kitchen with limited cupboards and virtually no counter space
Does the type of oil matter? I usually keep a variety on hand (vegetable, olive, sesame, avocado, canola, sunflower). Thanks for this video btw. it's very helpful.
I have had a steamer for about 2 years and I found this video about 15 mins before I finally opened it. Exactly what I needed? But can I just throw it in the dishwasher to get the chemicals off???
Thanks for this helpfull video!! I've cooked today black rice and it stained all the bamboo 😔( it passed the oven paper that I use to protect the bamboo) , how could I cleaned it? Thanks for the help!!!
If you didn't oil your bamboo steamer before first use and it's now stained and difficult to clean, I only can suggest trying to soak the steamer in water with a cup of white vinegar overnight for 8 hours and then using a brush or toothbrush to scrub it clean see if that way can helps.
Thanks for sharing . FYI old steamer didn't have any problem ( medium size) but the one I bought large size ( 34 ins ) dunno what kind of chemical the factory use , the steamer looks mouldy with black patches. Sorry to say , earlier, I didn't know your method of maintaining the steamer, but my old steamer was OK until now. Can you tell me how do I get rid of those black patches here n there, it looks disgusting. Appreciate if you can give me some suggestion. TIA.
I did not know that was supposed to be done. I just washed it with water and I was done. When I got my steamer, there was no RUclips. I guess the plain water from the tap worked; I am not glowing in the dark☺
Amazing! Thank you so much! I don’t have any vegetable oil, would sesame oil work instead? I have light or dark :) Thank you for your very informative video! I can’t wait to try it out!

thanks, I'm using this process for prepping it after purchase. Is the oil treatment after every use really necessary or can I skip it? it would really affect my after-dinner routine 😅 of course I'll be washing it with water
@@SidOhzen I've decided I'll oil any time. I'll try not to use the steamer that much LOL. Another question, if you may. Online I find contrasting info on how is the parchment paper/cabbage leaf actually required. I don't like the idea of having to constantly use paper under my vegetable, may it be for health reasons or for the useless waste produced, and I don't always have cabbage leaves at hand. I also rarely do dumplings with the steamer. Is it really necessary?
For the purpose of cleaning off chemicals i can see doing boiling water. But everytime after would hot water from the sink be good enough for cleaning? Mine isnt boiling hot but it's definitely scorching.

Don't use olive oil, it can get rancid pretty quick. Best is natural linseed oil.
