The bike seems to run good from half throttle to full throttle, but it sputters, hesitates pops, and backfires at 1/4 throttle, unless I put the choke on, when the choke is on, the first 1/4 throttle runs great. this is most always a clogged slow circuit in the carb. You can blow air from one of the holes in the very rear of the carb and feel it it come out inside the carb thru a small hole in front of the butterfly valve if not clogged. Use carb clnr to actually see it. The fuel/air mixture screw adjust how much fuel comes thru this passage as does the slow jet (pilot jet) in the carb.
the passage goes from back of carb, to the slow jet, then the fuel/air mixture screw, then the small hole in front of the butterfly where the fuel finally comes out and enters the engine to provide fuel at idle and very low engine speeds

Hello! I have a raptor 660 2001 and I am having trouble taking off. Ive been told I need to tune the carburetor but I do not know how exactly! Is there anyway we can communicate and you may help?
When was last time in ran right?
What has changed since?
The biggest errors i see is air box lid being removed or pipe changed or cut off short
Geezer Moto I bought it A year and a half ago and it was running the same. But yes There is no air box lid on it at the moment! I changed position of Air/Fuel mixture screw and am putting it back together now. Definitely will keep you posted! Thank You!
@@therealyoubuns5595 i would begin with getting it running very good WITH the air box lid...... without it, you will have to jet fatter...like 180 mains up to possibly 220's
Hiya geezer hope you could help me I recently swapped my motocross bike for a 2001 Yamaha 660 R but it's not running right it's spluttering and boggingand only running with the choke on I cleaned the carbs put it back together and now it idles and runs with the choke off but still splutters and is still bogging I messaged the guy who I got the bike of and got in touch with the guy who originally built it he says he built it from his friends 660r and it was all in bits in around six boxes but he says he out a 720 piston and barrel on it and could probably do with the carbs setting up properly on it as he set it to how a video on RUclips showed him but it also has a gsxr exhaust on it which is realy loud and also a KnN air filter on it I set the carbs to 3 turns out on the left and 2 turns out on the right do you think I need bigger jets as think it's a cheap carb I have the original Mikuni carb aswell but it's battered and all the screws are rounded of so it's hard to get into it do you think if I chopped the screws of and swapped the jets out of the Mikuni carb into the cheap carb this would help if not could I drill the cheaper carbs jets bigger this would make a difference any help or advice would be really appreciated I'm in the UK thanks and keep up the videos by far the best I've found 💯💪
I only use the original mikuni carbs and you need an airbox and good filter.
Airbox lid makes them much easier to jet.
Try 160 170 ish main jets and just jet it in.
Trial and error. If it smutters its rich if it bogs its lean
@@geezermoto7820 hopefully I can chop the screws of the Mikuni carb and clean it up and replace the screws of the cheaper carb and try 160 main jets in both carbs and same again 170 main in both or 160 in 1 and 170 in the other thanks for the reply geezer 💯💪
@@kallumflowers9318 use a small chisel, tap them on the side in the "unscrew" direction
@@geezermoto7820 yh sounds better than chopping them haha and again is it same size jets in both sides of the carb or a size bigger in the other just I don't know I've never switched jets b4 so I'll be learning thanks again geezer 💯💪
@@kallumflowers9318 you can use same or like 160/165 but same in both is ok, either way works and look at my rev limit wire cut vid
Mikuni jets or dyno jets?

I have a question. I recently purchased a new engine and installed it. When I installed the carb (stock) 140/145 main jets it starts right up with the choke on but as soon as I turn off the choke it dies but if I run it at half choke it seems to run perfect. Any idea what it could be ?
this is most always a clogged slow circuit in the carb.
@@geezermoto7820 thank you for the speedy reply. I will try cleaning out the carb better I appreciate the help

Cut green/yellow at CDI. Ground Green/white at CDI.
@@geezermoto7820 Hey bro,, thanks a-lot for your reply,, do i cut the white wire with small white stripe or the white wire with small green stripe one cdi?
@@geezermoto7820 when i ground it,, do i ground the two cut wires or just the one coming from the cdi ?,tkz...
cut green wire with yellow stripe at cdi.
ground the green wire with white stripe at cdi, the end that goes into cdi. bolt it to negative battery terminal or known good frame bolt, etc
@@geezermoto7820 green/white was already grounded,,, spliced in with a wire......and the green yellow wire was already cut and stll the rev limiter still doing its thing...
