The 142 and the 242 are such good looking cars, getting rid of the quad lamps just made the 242 look even better. Keep on keeping on, you guys have such good taste in Volvo’s!
We did te he opposite here in Sweden. All DL, GL got flat hood as standard from factory and we replaced the hoods and grill from GLT and Turbo. If you want a DL or a GL with the ”long lip” hood as we say here in Sweden you had to order that as a option. I notice that on the US market Volvo kept the older fenders from 75-80 and used them further with the US headlights (dual). We never had them headlights and if we wanted them they was also optional. Keep up the good work Dean. Best regards from Sweden
Back in the days I had an original 1975 242 B20 flathood, in the same green color, we painted it red and gave it a B21. Sometimes I miss it, but then I see the gasprices
Hey Dean, lovely 242, that racing green color from the 80s & 90s was very cool, you don't see it on new cars nowadays. Believe your 242 DL is an 83 or 84 based on the smaller bumpers, the 81 & 82s had the bigger 5 mph Commando bumpers. Hope you can all the items fixed and get it running and on the road again. Hope your county reinspection went well, wish they would mind their own business instead of harassing home owners. Best wishes from Texas.
I would not bother rebuilding that rear end yet. The clacketi clac sound i think is only the diff gears working, and they are mostly stationary to each other when going straight. And some metallic oil dont need to mean disaster for yet many thousand miles.put new oil in and just watch the wheel bearings over time. Worth a shot i think. Thanks for the video man.
I'd say the wheels and roundies really do make it better. I usually like quad rectangles, especially on e30's (yes there is a hella kit for that, look it up for the willies) but this 200 doesn't deserve to suffer with them.

Bilstein : Good. Koni : The very best of all. Btw.: 10 years ago in Europe these cars were sold for 3000, but now they are up to 15 to 20 K. I know why!
ok , now bout 8 min in and just to say it , two bolts and nuts , a strap or rope and a tree to tie to then pul on it and it wil gently return to its old original shape if bolted on top of radiator and hood latch support .
That’s the way we would normally do it. Because of the rust under the radiator the whole front need to be disassembled and the cross member replaced. Things will be straightened at that point.
Love the wheels, they are like a better version of the ones that came on the Torslander special in 1993 (in the UK anyway). Was the car originally a kind of hearing aid beige as there is a scrape on the drivers side? The new hood & lights look great all the best with the project 🙂
Car is a code 142 Vernon Green car originally. Its had multiple panels replaced and painted over its life. It has 260k miles. Quarter panel was repaired at some point and had tan primer
Love, love, love the green and those wheels are perfect! This may be one of the best videos you've done. Informative, snarky and with a generous dollop of making it up as you go along. I don't have much skin in the game here, but if I could be the Chief Decider, I would clear coat the vehicle as is. Then I would continue to insert all of the hpd/Bilstein-type naughty bits under the clear coat. Maybe (if it is worthwhile), cold air intake and header with an exhaust as unrestricted as an OnlyFans pay site. Then I would go out and terrorize the peasants. You know, if the Swedes built Q Ships this would be one. PS: Was that airplane properly registered and adhering to all applicable FAA and zoning ordinances?
Sounds like we are on the same page! Except for clearing the existing paint. None of the paint is original so much of what is there is multi colored. I would LOVE to fully tear it down and rebuild it. I don’t believe the plane cares about noise pollution. I reported it to the county either way
Yknow i never was a fan of single rounds on the 242. The 140s did the single rounds better imo. However, quad rounds are baller as hell on the 242s imho
@@DeanofMachines they look good on the 122, 140, 164, p1800, p1900, and the pv544/444, but it aint it on the 240s. It looks like a cheap late 70s immitation of a 140 front end
