One can never have too many chainsaws! I have 5, and I am not a pro.
I agree!! I wonder how many chainsaws the average person has....hmmm
I've found brake clean to do wonders when cleaning my saw.
great idea!!

Folks hope ya enjoy "tool tuesday" this Monday lol.....let me know if there's anything you'd like to see here on the farm! We've got tons of fall projects coming!!
Farm all tractor from your dads house
Love "Tool Tuesday", I get some good ideas. Now it know how to sharpen a chainsaw! Thanks! Bruce
I always start at the two double links.
I wouldn't put the saws on stamped concrete. They all leak bar oil!
Thanks as always fro the informative information. Lady from Huntersville NC born and raised in Ridgeway.
nice!
Good Afternoon !! 🌹🌹🌹
Problems with buying Husky is u never get to by a new one if your a guy that don’t buy another until the old one is wore out. Stihl sharpener is a game changer I love it.
Totally agree with this. I’ve got a 372XP which my father bought brand new roughly 20 years ago.
Still works perfectly & I only just recently replaced the original 20” bar.
I am looking for a 120 Mk2 for the small jobs.
That has got to be one of the prettiest patios.
thank you so much! Just wait...it's gonna be awesome as we build the outdoor kitchen!
Why are you sharpening your saws in the outdoor kitchen? You have a massive shop that you built for this. Use it. Who wants metal filings in their food?
we don't eat off the floor lol. Filming my friend....lighting is much better out here. Once the shop is built out we'll do most of this inside
You are right. Gloves a must. You will lose some skin at some time.
I watched where you lifted up the back end of the saw instead of the bar end to tighten up the nuts, do you think there's a difference ? I've always been told to lift up the bar end before tightening.IDK just an observation. Wooo !!!
same thing...lift the bar or the rear of the saw...honestly...it really makes no difference from my experience...just "best practice"
Thanks god bless
Movin up the week …now I’m already behind on my work.
Good info👍 Gotta get me one of those fancy file sharpeners.
you'll love it! I never use a "regular file" anymore...this is the trick!!
For anyone that doesn't know why you should flip the bar so often is so the bar will wear evenly!..If you ever notice your saw cutting off in one direction..Have the bar "trued up"
also sharpening the chain with the file at the wrong angle can cause the saw to "walk" sideways through a log. Now.....can either of us honestly say they've seen a bar get worn down? I can't, but I'm sure some pro sawyers have...I still flip mine, but I've never seen a bar show wear from the chain personally. Have you? Just curious
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer You are 100% correct that using a file incorrectly will make your saw walk. I'm not a purist by any stretch of the imagination, but I do use a file because that's the way I was taught. I bought my MS 362 in 2010 and still have the original bar, But I replaced the bar 2 years ago. I My saw was walking, and I thought I had rushed a sharpening job so I had it sharpened by someone that does it for a living. The saw still walked. Thats when I found out about the bar not wearing evenly, I wasn't flipping my bar often enough. That was my fault. The edges of the bar will "roll." When I change chains, I use my finger nail to check the edges and if they need dressed up I just touch it up with a file.I use my saw quite a bit because I sell firewood, but I've never managed to completely wear out a bar, but I do go through chains.
You are supposed to lift up on the tip when tightening the chain
yep...and if the chain is in the vice, lift up on the saw....watch closely you'll see me doing that
Don’t forget the gullet
Many times working clearing land I got down only knees with a saw between my legs and a file flat and round filing away. We would just those chains until there was no more chain to sharpen. I also remember back in the day and McCulloch, Poulan and Homelite were king of the forest. I used to have a Homelite Super 55 and 60. They were gear reduction saws and no tree in the woods could stall one of those. Before I retired from contuction I had both Stihl and Husquvarna. I still own a Husky. The old Homelite Super 55 was a man. When you fired up that saw that had no muffler, you could hear that saw for miles talking through the woods.
Dad still has a couple Pro Mac saws!! They're awesome!
I like that tool anything make easier
amen!!
Hey Josh, thanks for your recommendation and I do need this !! Can you please advise which one you use on your Husquvarna 450? I checked in Stihl there are a few different one. Also, What sprare chain do you use and recommend. Thanks in advance
I just get the chain that's "factory" for each saw...now as for finding the right sharpener....check out my link below...find the specs on your chain/bar and order the appropriate sharpener...or simply take it into your local STIHL dealer and they'll help ya match it up
If you haven't used a full skip stihl chain on your stihl chailsaw, your not living your life right. I also know how to sharpen a chain but the day that stihl chain sharpening device came out, that day was a game changer, I haven't picked up my old file since. I have the ratchet scrench too. Good tool but the sockets are just a lil to short, personal opinion.
If you raise the bar and then tighten it you want change the chain adjustment when you use it
Hey Josh thank you for the video I enjoyed it and yes the way you're saying with the file one way is the correct way I tell people this but do they listen No never woo
back dragging a file makes me cringe!!! So many youtube videos back dragging files
I have a Milwaukee mini and a Stihl pole saw.. 😁
I have those too...and a stihl sharpener that fits them...love this tool!!
I'll be getting the sharpeners for my hubby!
I got to get me one of them units I've never seen them I still use files
you'll love the sharpener! It's truly so easy
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I’m getting one lol thanks
I have two, a Stihl and a Poulan. Green lantern gas by now, i suppose. eh.. I'm restructuring! LOL 🔴⚪🔵
one of the worse things that can ware out a chain or burn it up is lack of oil. When cutting trees with the saw horizontally, it is not gettin much or any oil. If the tree is very large, it is a good idea to take the saw out keep it running allow the oil to get on the chain. OR, you can always take a can of oil with you and pour some on the bars if the tree is large and you will be cutting on it for a while. Oil is a must. And, keep the cover clean in side as the oil channel tend to get clogged and not be able to oil the chain.
if you've got a properly functioning saw the oiler should do it's job right?
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer The oiler has a little problem with the saw is cutting horizontal. It will still oil but on its side too long and I always poured a little on the bar just to keep it cool.
gotcha
Electric drill and a round fold easier
hmmm
File
dangerous if the file breaks....be sure you're wearing safety gear my friend...files are brittle and can shatter like glass
Ya that is a chain saw
Folks will be angry, but I wouldnt give a nickel for a boxcar of Huskys. Oiler burned chains. No one could fix. Saw nearly new. But Im pretty ignorant on this. Are chains unique to saws so you buy sharpener by saw? Or by chain. How do you know which sharpener to use?
the chain is unique for each saw...but some saws take the same chain pitch...like all these saws I sharpened today have the same chain pitch so I can use the same sharpener
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer i guess the question is how do you know the pitch if you threw the original packaging away. Thanks for your response.i
Hold the tip of saw up then tighten 2 nuts….
yeppers!
Do two or three teeth and move it down using the guide. No need to move it with your hands.
keep watching you'll see me do it! Great minds think alike!
My wife would shoot me if I worked on any chain saw over a nice concrete floor!
why? I just blew it off with the leaf blower when I got done..no biggie lol
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Every saw I have leaks fluid. But the bottom of my truck bed toolbox will never rust!
lol yes they do!!
Funny....you have big chainsaws, but your farm has little trees.......
lol....the camera does them no justice my brother...there are trees that have been here since the 1800s
Each to there own but not for me
if you bought one of these sharpeners you'd never go back to "caveman filing" your saw....I can promise you this without any doubt! You will love it!
