What do you think, should "The Gate" have become a series like some other horror movies (Halloween, Friday The 13th, etc.) or just stopped after the first one?

Summoning demons to get your dad to quite drinking is about as good of an idea as when Freddie brought Jason back because he thought Jason would make people afraid
To be fair, Freddie was actually right, he just didnt considered what would happen after that. Meanwhile this kid didnt consider shit. Like, literal shit. He was right about the wishes but didnt knew they have a time limit. And honestly, thats no excuse. Even if he thought he could take on the consequences of summoning the demon as long as it resolves all his problems, its still the understadement of the century. Way worst idea that bringing Jason back from the death.
I actually liked the focus shifting to Terry in this one. It felt like a natural progression, and Terry was the more interestingly troubled character anyway.

I did and it's ok like mentioned in the review but nothing compared to the first ,scream factory did a Blu Ray release of it and it's available from Germany in retro VHS Blu Rays with the first , I sold my scream factory and have the retro VHS combo I've seen the first quite a bit in the last couple of years I might watch the second again one day it's a once or twice movie

WASP is one of the most underrated bands ever. A lot of people dismissed them just because of the image. Blackie kind of brought it on himself but they still should’ve been taken more seriously. They have tons of killer tunes.

I'm actually surprised I figured it was going to be WAY worse than that. If I knew Gate had a sequel I would have watched this back in the day. Maybe not as much as the original, but I still would have watched it.
Well.. Its not terrible. I mean its not great either but not terrible. I've seen it a long time ago. I personally did not quite like the end but I also tend to prefer dark endings.

Pamela Seagall won an Emmy for voicing Bobby hill on king of the hill. I had a huge crush on her during the time this movie came out.

The demons in the movies are played by people in suits on stages with huge objects, they are then edited in to the foreground to appear small sort of how they do it in lord of the rings but not in camera, like the shots of it running around on the floor or with the scissors, or on the swing in the cage, it's a person in a suit. they do a fine job in these movies with those "little guys" of course there is stop motion for interaction, and puppets for live in camera work,.. but the majority is people on sound stages in suits :D
Don't ruin the magic of this incredible film.
@@diggadirt393 The magic was in the first film,.. the shot of the zombie worker falling over and busting into smaller imps,.. they did that shot in similar fashion,.. THAT was magic, and probably my favorite effects shot in any movie because it was done in practical, and mixed together in camera effects and super imposed sound stage work.. it's a masterpiece. The real magic of movies is how they pull it al off with ingenuity rather than money :D. the reason the effects for the second movie cost so much was to get the same crew back lol.

Now this is the first movie I’ve heard of where the main character and the villains literally wake up at their own funeral.
My guess? All that stop-motion money went to renting out the batman factory. The original gate was basically a "noddle episode" with just a single major location.

I recently knew about this movie. Had no idea it existed before like last year lol. I had the The Gate 1 on a worn VHS
As a kid of the 80's I watched all the great horror movies of that decade, then I saw Shocker, made in 1990 and realized that 90's horror would be total shit and I was right.
Man i love your channel, it reminds me of better days... days when i would binge through the avgn or nostalgia critics channels all day long, it would bring me such joy during dark times of my depression. Keep making the good videos! They might mean more to some of us then you may think at first.

I watched the original not too long ago on Amazon Prime. I never knew it had a sequel until recently. So I figured, "Why not give this one a watch on my Firestick?"

And yes, Brandon actually mentions this in the beginning, but I didn't know her by name, so it was a surprise.
I'm so glad you found this film. It's one of my faves. The only thing that would make me happier is if you had a cameo on Letterkenny one of these days.
My father and I used to watch The Gate together, then when The Gate 2 came out we got so excited and rented it right away.
That scene with Terry's Dad partying in the cockpit of the plane, has got to used " Join the Party " is comedy gold,

I must hold some kind of bizarre record. I remember seeing this movie in early 1990s but had forgotten it until you mentioned he couldn't kill the hamster. This is another example of me seeing a much less respected sequel without ever seeing the first movie.
Better than my dad introducing me to horror at age 5 with Alien. Then, complaining about me having nightmares and a crippling fear of the dark.

I rather enjoyed Gate II. I actually saw Gate II before I saw The Gate. I agree that it is not as good as the first Gate movie, but it has it's various charms.

i like the story following Terry. Partly because he was a huge part of opening the first Gate, but also because it's so rare to get a protagonist that's normal looking, that's usually reserved for independent films and troma movies

It’s hard to live up to the Gate, that’s a pretty amazing film. I went to see the Gate with my mother when I was 8 or 9, so amazing. I only recently discovered the Gate 2 and... yeah...not quite there
