  • In this video, Scott demonstrates how to transition from the Ascender to the I'D, and why a climber would do this. Petzl I'D Self-Braking Rope Descender - ss1.us/a/G7FAu05A
Scott Backes, representing Petzl Work and Rescue, came into our showroom for some hands-on training. We filmed a series of quick tutorials, explanations, and demonstrations of different rescue and climbing techniques using the great gear from Petzl.

That music really adds a great deal to the training. So much easier to understand what he is saying with the music there.

I like this guy, really nice demo. Would have loved to be there and ask questions.

I just added this to my setup options....just learning this climbing stuff and was using 2 Ascension's (plus Croll in harness) to climb tall trees, but didn't have a handy setup for SRT when I want to conveniently go up and down shorter distances, multiple times, to do the work....tried this out today and it works perfect, thanks a lot for the video!
Also like how the rope is knotted at the top and the other half is just hanging there perfect for my ASAP to come along for the ride....nice way to have two ropes connected to me. Just need to learn about what knots I can use up there (Fig 8 or Alpine Butterfly maybe), and how to configure the hardware, friction saver quickie shackle or whatever.

Know it has been awhile since your comment but check out our most recent RUclips Shorts to learn the easiest/remind you how to tie the Alpine Butterfly or Fig 8.
Somewhat confused what you mean by configure hardware/friction saver. Could you expand on that so that we can clear that up for you/make a video if others have the same issue.

@@Gmesupply I was still learning how to do a canopy anchor, base anchor, install TreesBee/friction-saver etc ....all good, I probably figured it out the next day 😊 I've used this setup a bunch now, works perfect for me, and added zigzag for when I'm doing more horizontal work instead of mostly up&down.
(I'm just a random dude doing the trees on our property, not a pro.)
      Love this stuff,
      Thanks guys!

      @@Gmesupply Thanks, much appreciated!
(actually right now I'm painting and old house and stuff, but when "tree season" here in Socal comes back Nov-Feb I've got a 80ft Eucalyptus and 100ft pine to do, and whatever else looks fun 😁 Have a great summer!

Consider keeping your arms under the ASAP and shock absorber. In the event of a failure your arms won't be impacted by the shock absorber.

What’s the piece he’s got attached to the second rope?

  • @ANML

why is he using that pulley on the hand ascender? what is the purpose of it?

    • @Gmesupply
      @Gmesupply  4 года назад +1

Great question! The pulley on the hand ascender creates a mechanical advantage to lessen the strain on the climber while ascending the rope. The same configuration can briefly be seen in action in this video at about 00:23 ruclips.net/video/EIrUp8Xwcj4/видео.html

Is this guy a climber or a salesman?

    • @Gmesupply

He actually got his start as an alpine climber. He's got tons of experience there: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Backes
For these videos he's representing Petzl to do some training with their gear.
