I didn't realize until this video what a human hand looks like to a piggie. Seems like the talons on a raptor claw! Using the treats to pick them up is reprogramming their instinctive fear which in the wild helps them to survive. Thanks so much for posting. You are so informative, Scotty!
Two of my piggies are blind so when I go to pick them up I put my hands gently down their sides for a few seconds so they know that I am about to pick them up.They learnt this through practice.
My guinea pigs very quickly figured out that they'll get picked up if they go in the hideys, so they just refused to go into the hideys when I was nearby until I gave up on that method. XD
@@spoon7926 Like I said, they figured out that I would pick them up if they went inside. So they just refused to go into anything that could be picked up when I was nearby. Luckily I got better at catching them without hideys. :)
my guinea pig is so so tiny 😭😩she’s adorable and she finally learned that i’m here to feed her, so whenever i come by she doesn’t run away anymore! but still trying to learn to pick her up
You are the best piggy dad. I swear, the cutest, kindest man I have ever seen. Lucky little piggies to have you. Love the videos! And all your hard work.
Wow, I'm so impressed by your gentle ways with the piggies, Scott. Your immeasurable love for them it's felt through the screen! I love it! Thank you for sharing your advice! I'm eager to be a better human every day to my piggy ❤🥰🐹
My girls don’t like being picked up so I use the technique of waiting for them to be relaxed in their cozy and then I pick up the cozy with piggie. I will try the other ones you showed...I appreciate learning new helpful things from you to be a better piggy owner...or rather a veggie providing slave. ❤️ to all your sweet boars!
We just adopted two 2 yo male piggies - their owner needed to redo me them.. (they have multiple kids and dogs and her husband passed away... So far it’s been an ok transition.. we’ve never had guinea pigs before... so we are learning a lot about them... I’m a new subscriber.. TFS..
Back here rewatching because I tried the first method and my piggies started NOT to take the treat from my hand anymore. They also kearned that I can pick them up in their hideys, so they avoid them now and just run in circles. I built a bridge from their cage to my bed and will coax them to come to me eventually. Also feeding them treats from my open palm, they started to tolerate lil chin scratches somewhat while eating. It took the shy on 3 full weeks to get used to the window opening and closing and the curtains being drawn open and closed, so my expectancies shrink each week 🤣
These are great tips, Scotty. I’m going to start putting mine back in their cage as you showed. I get scratched up sometimes with how excited they are to be back home. 😬
Such a cute bonding burrito piggy. Sounds like it is a common problem for piggy carers. The bonus of this video is we get to see these gorgeous squeakhearts ♥️🌠
You have given me very gods parenting tips I’ve only had my piggies for about 5 months now I find you videos to be very helpful because you know guinea pigs aren’t typical pets but there are lovable animals
This is great info! I have had 4 guinea pigs in the span of 5 years. My first girl was so easy to handle! My girls and my boy are still skittish when I pick them up especially to clean their cages but are always eager for me to pick them up to go back in!
That’s PERFECT! The cuddle sack..I’m going to get one tomorrow! It IS really difficult bc my two run like it’s their life at stake! I didn’t hand raise them. My little one I have raised is much better yet still gets scared at times! I use a bed for her & it usually works but not always, Whereas the sack is perfect! I thank you Scotty! 👏🥰❤️
Scotty I watch ur vids all the time. You and Saskia have helped me more than you know! I ordered 4 cuddle cups they seem to like being held that way 😊 it has even prolonged to time being held not much longer lol but seems more comfortable. Thank you
When I had mine, I opened up the cage door and trained her to come to me with treats. After a short while she would stand up and anticipation of me picking her up. It worked well as it gave her the choice.
I’ve done the nose cover release technique for over a year now. Maybe from this video but I feel like it was an older video you also mentioned it. I love it though, works great and prevents the instinct to jump and damage joints. Thank you 🙏
Awesome techniques. I have two extra extremely skittish piggies. If I’m sitting on the floor or the bed with them, the rules change and I can pet them and pick them up without any issue. But while they’re inside their enclosure, I’m not allowed to touch them. They jump and run. SOMETIMES I can pet one of them while she eats. I followed Saskia’s technique of following behind them calmly with my hands and they will eventually give up. It works, but it wears me out every time lol. Also, I find if I have my hands under all four feet when lowering them back in, they wait til the elevator stops and step off nicely :)
That was really helpful. I put my hand in front of one piggies face because he's a struggler when putting back in cage and he didn't struggle at all. It was so easy.
Love your channel. I've been watching for the last day and I've found it very helpful for me and my little baby. I love seeing other people who have the same type of love and affection i have for my guinea 🐖
It’s funny I was just reading last night about what it means when they run . Says they are happy and playing. Popcorn too. It also said and I’ve noticed more now than as a kid. They do recognize their care giver. 🐹 They have their own personality. And are very personable in communication. You learn their language kind of. 🐹
Wow I'm amazed 🤯 my guinea pig runs away and is athletic, but this... This is amazing 👍 now my guinea pig can let me pick her/him (got three) up. thank you Scott
All well and good, but could somebody please do a video about how to get you owner to pick you up when you want cuddled? I have Shark pretty well trained to know that if I am doing big stretch in my one corner I want to be picked up, but sometimes even she is really slow about it. Sometimes a little princess just wants some snuggle time, you know?
LOVE your video I've got two 6 week old guinea pigs (females) were from the same litter they get on together both are pregnant I was told that by the pet shop when I bought they were mixed with male guineas in the pet shop. I wanted to save them a life of being bred constantly are living a good life now I've had guineas in the past and have had these two for 2 weeks now they are still very nervy of me I bought them a pen which they go in for an hour each day for some freedom for there cage. Im hopeing they become less nervy of me soon.
I have been binge-watching all of your videos! And every single one of them are helping me out so much learning about my newly adopted 2-year-old hairless guinea pig. I started watching the videos and doing my research before I brought him home so that I was pretty much ready. But I'm still learning 😁 Y'all are awesome
Love the idea of a cuddle *sack*. Our version has been the "Snak Shak" logs; if one of those lands in front, they go in... then when it's picked they need to basically back into your hand with massive force... probably for the cuddle aspect! I might see about a plush tunnel that holds its shape like the log does.
I’m going to try your way of putting them back down! I tried the ‘gently holding on until they’re calm’ one time but my boys are still so young I don’t think they grasp that I’m trying to help. I felt horrible after lol. I may try when they are older and trust me much more. But from now until then I will just cover their little eyes! Thank you so much!
I always scoop my piggies, usually they run into a corner and that's where I scoop them up. Just like in the video - great to know that I'm doing this correctly!
I do the scoop method with mine more often than not, since one of them hates cuddle cups and tunnels, and the other still isn't quite tame. But of course bonus to this is saying "the claaaaaaaaaaw" as you scoop them up.
One of my guinea pigs are so easy to catch and one is hard but I kinda swoop my arms on the cage or put them in the tunnel . Your Guinea pigs are adorable
"love you for your ability to serve them vegetables" LOL! The way to a guinea pig's heart IS through their stomach.
Yup!
So what is names
True lol
The second way is how I had picked up the class pet

I love the way he randomly kisses them when talking 😂 it reminds me of what I do a lot ❤️❤️

Use a carrier case! One of the zipper ones, wait for them to walk in then pick them up!
@@spoon7926 Like I said, they figured out that I would pick them up if they went inside. So they just refused to go into anything that could be picked up when I was nearby. Luckily I got better at catching them without hideys. :)
Sarah: oh i didnt see that part im sorry! I meant to put I in front of my other comment! Whoops!
Same with my 5.
Mine does the same thing! It’s crazy how they catch on to our tricks! lol
my guinea pig is so so tiny 😭😩she’s adorable and she finally learned that i’m here to feed her, so whenever i come by she doesn’t run away anymore! but still trying to learn to pick her up
New drinking game. Take a shot every time Scott kisses the piggies. Update I’m hammered.
sharing the lettuce “can i have some too?”😂🥰 thats adorable
My piggies won't wait 15 minutes. They pee in revenge for being caught. 😂

Oh no

i love how nice he is to the pigs, and he is so confident with them! ☺️
My guinea pigs hate being picked up so I hope that I’ve found a solution to that with this video!

When I put my boys back in their home I find turning them to face me as I put them down works for me. My Milo is a jumper!
Nice technique
It is too
You really can see just how much you love these guys 💙

“And then I swoop up under him, got him” 😂😂😂😂 I love Nate, one of my girls is timid too ❤️
OMG helped so much. Thank you! My guinea pigs always jump out before I put them down. Its dangerous and scary for me when they do that.
A fellow man who loves these little creatures; awesome!
Love it how you are so affectionate towards them 💕
