So glad I backed the KS with the giant map and all the extra mechanics/gamplay elements in the Viking Age expansion (not mentioned in this review). FYI, some of the tokens he says he wished they included are in the Viking Age expansion box.
I've wanted a game from this series for a while, the theme and components made this a clear winner for me. One criticism Dan, I wish you went into player counts a bit, it's been the most difficult part of this series to figure out many of them accommodate more than 2 players, but some don't do it as well as others. I'd have liked to heard thoughts on Vikings with 4 players. Otherwise fantastic review as always!
In my experience they work best with 4 players (all of these in the series). But I played it with 3 being the only one on the English side and it also works very well. Some like to work with another player, others would rather run both factions. So it's really up to what you prefer but the game works fine with any player count.
I own a nice collection of 28mm Vikings and Saxons for miniatures battles. I would like this board game to my collection for more operational/strategic actions. Looks good!
2:43 I think you are wrong here? The very first round alway stars with the black Norsemen. It is even printed a black cube on the board for that. But on round 2 it's always a randomly drawn faction. At least that's what I understand from the rulebook.
Yes in the first round it's the Norsemen that move first. I wanted to tech the English first since I didn't want to cover leader movement right off the bat.
Ben Steer got a few academy games don't think they ever make a bad one always great quality and fun game play plus always a section on the real history
Great video and review. I too can't wait to get my copy of the game this summer :) Don't forget that in the first round of the game the Norsemen goes first ( ruclips.net/video/2r0Wmwt91Mo/видео.htmlm48s says different)

Oh cool I didn't realize the expansion had the tokens.
I hope Dan can do an extra mini-review of the Viking Age expansion.
I know Im pretty off topic but does anybody know of a good website to watch new series online ?
@Sullivan Alvin flixportal :)
@Malachi Azariah thank you, I went there and it seems like a nice service =) I appreciate it!!

The Vikings "feel" overpowered but in reality it is a pretty even match. Our game came right down to the wire! To the very last possible action even!
Exactly why I love it!

I'll be doing an official rules video soon which will all be correct, but the overview was to give an idea of how the game works.
Glad I backed it. I've wanted an Academy Games war game for a while and, being English, this was the obvious choice.
Ben Steer Being English, try 1775. You might overcome those pesky colonials.

Conflict of Heroes is very nice too
looking forward to this arriving
Thanks for the review, Dan!
You're welcome Andrew!
