I had a great teacher years ago(Brett Saunders) he spent a lot of time on our lessons teaching me to feel confident hitting a 7 iron to 150 yards, when I questioned him why we spend lesson after lesson on the 150 shot, he explained, when I missed the fairway with my drive, I could chip sideways to 150 and still feel confident that I could hit the green and 2 putt for bogey. He stressed that double bogeys were a bad shot followed by a stupid shot, which 30 years later I still try to execute.
Paddy! I do HOPE that you will sometime read this. I grew up playing golf, at one time a 7 handicap in my younger life. I had to really give up golf to practice medicine for 40 years.I am retiring from my medical practice in 6 months, at the age of 74. I am very focused on returning to my golf game and this NEW "PROGRAM" of yours is such a GIFT to me. I will "follow this to a tee"(forgive the pun). I look forward to playing golf again at a great "senior level'. With your wonderful help, I know I will! Again much thanks!!
I am so ready for this! 18 handicap, been trying to improve for about 2 years and have had a hard time sifting through all the advice on RUclips. I am only going to follow what Padraig has to say and will follow this plan only! So excited!
This guy's doing this because he loves golf and not on behalf of his sponsors! He's duly wealthy but is not concerned with extra remuneration. Thank you for your time and knowledge.
I am amazed that a world-class golfer I've never met is prepared to teach me his skills. I know that the internet facilitates this but doesn't make it easy for Mr Harrington - it still needs a lot of effort and thought, and the giving of his time to us all. I am so looking forward to this series. Thank you Mr H.
Me too (except for being Irish). Hail Paddy! I will obey. I managed to get to below 18 relatively quick not having to take lessons (after the first 8 to learn the basics), just applying bogey handicap course management and riding a little on 20 years of field hockey skills. After that it feels like I am stuck in the same gear. Not a bad place to be and enjoy golf, but ever since I played a round of 12 above par in 2022, I wanted to know what it takes to sustain rounds like that. My first club fitting last year opened my eyes on my swing faults, since then I learned how to compress my irons. Totally ready for the next step.
Gold from a Hall of Fame icon. Would absolutely love to see Padraig and Bryson do some sort of crossover RUclips episode! Pretty sure Bryson respects the heck out of Padraig and his ball speed at 52!
This is a good approach. Most golf pros seem to teach lesson to lesson where they try and make some minor change to make you feel good each time. That will string out over years with no real improvement and a lot of frustration as you keep going back to fix things that weren't really fixed last time. You have no idea where you are, what the end goals are, ... A better approach is to have a whole road map which the average person can follow for a couple of years and someone with natural talent will complete in a year. Full swing, short game swing, and putting need to be tackled in parallel. They are three different skills which turns out to be to your advantage - when you get tired of practicing full swings then move onto pitching, ...and then putting. Then there are the cross skill disciplines: flexibility, body awareness, strength, mental control, learning how to learn, ... I could go on!
I love these videos - I've changed my swing (after 55 years) to adopt these lessons and am back down to a 3 handicap. When things get slightly off, I come back to these to remember a drill or thought that I've moved away from. Highly recommend!
Love it, will follow this plan. Handicap is already coming down after putting on some speed over the winter. This has straightened up my driver as an added bonus too!
Cannot wait for this series Padraig. I've been bouncing around between 10 and 12 for 2 years and just haven't been able to crack that barrier. At 65 I don't have a lot time to do it, so let's GO!
You have my upmost respect that you are willing to teach us how to play. I enjoyed watching you battle it out at times with Tiger and now I have a chance to learn from a great. Thank you sir
My swing and scores didn’t improve until I retired, went to work at a golf course and was able to play practice rounds on the course without worrying about my stroke score or handicap. Instead I focused on having a plan and target for every single shot, including of the tee and evaluating success and progress based on whether or not I executed the shot as planned. If not and playing alone on an empty course I’d just drop another ball and try again correcting whatever problem that caused the previous to not work. More often than not the source of the problem was that on the course the ball wasn’t on a perfectly flat artificial turf range mat lie, it was on un-level real turf where taking a divot was required. That’s the case for most recreational golfer. Even on the range they don’t get the opportunity to always hit off turf the way the pros practice. Once I started playing non-scoring practice rounds I realized that practicing on the mats at the range was causing more harm than good. Instead I started just playing the first few holes tee-to-green with just my seven iron until I felt loose and warmed up. What I discovered doing that is I was actually scoring better than hitting Driver / wedge 😂. I played nearly daily for two years in ‘match play’ mode against the designer of the course, counting pars as a ‘draw’ and birdie or better as a ‘win’ in a war of 18 separate battles of wits. Progress was measured by just counting the pars a one point, birdies as two and eagles as three and with that mindset I started getting birdies and my first eagle. I also lost far more holes than I won but it never ruined the entire round and crushed my spirit like stroke play does when you are under-par mid-round then hit one errant shot that snowballs into a snowman or worse. In my view the USGA handicap system is counter-productive to improving one’s golf swing because to be fair FOR COMPETITION it requires following all the rules and counting every shot and it is impossible to practice on the course that way and the the only way anyone can practice on a course is to be a pro or an employee at won. Until a golf wants to compete there is no reason to have a handicap because there are better ways to measure progress like tracking fairways hit, greens in regulation, putting % from various distances to track what part of the game need the most improvement.
Can’t wait. I’m now 68 and have been playing since I was 25. 11 hcp. is lowest I’ve been. Took 10 years out of the game and returned 2.5 years ago. Now playing off of 17 but although my speed has dwindled, its my short game and putting that’s probably cost me most since I came back. My back teeth are long but I’m willing to roll it right back if I have to. Give it to me champ. 👍
12 Hdcp 10 years ago, then came three kids… just started again a month ago and struggle to break 90. So I am up for the challenge Paddy. Let‘s do it. I will follow your lead!
Can’t wait! Especially looking forward to the putting as I suffer from y**s so much that I’m forced to putt lefty. I would greatly appreciate any guidance on how to recover from this awful plague !!
I'm really looking forward to this, I've been stuck around 12 for a year now. I have distance(34° 7 iron Carrys 170/ 175) my approach game was the best part of my game, now its my worst. I have been having lessons to work on the mechanics and playing/ practicing 3/4 times a week. I believe my decision making is good. The part that let's me down is a bad hit for me could be a shank OB or a thin over the green to an awkward up and down. And tee shots....driver stays in the bag when a good or perfect shot is required. I could hit a great drive...but only 1/4 of the time. And mentally I'm good. The frustration comes from knowing I could be around a 5 hcp. I'm not expecting perfection every time but a shank out of nowhere or a topped driver will randomly jump Into the rounds. The thing I struggle with most is how much wind will effect shots.
I have a very similar game to you, and in all honestly, I gotta say the one or two oddball shots per round, the shank, top, thin, banana slice OB, etc. is not really ever going to leave your game unless you're willing to put in an insane amount of time to practice the full swing. You quickly hit diminishing returns on your time practicing the full swing somewhere around a 10 handicap (different for everyone, but somewhere around 10), where the amount of time you need to put in starts to go up exponentially but the return you get from that practice is only like one or two strokes per round. My suggestion (if it's worth anything at my level, an 11 handicap, used to be around 7 when I played more) is that if you've never done a very thorough audit of your short game, you stand to gain the most by getting better there. Dave Pelz's "Short Game Bible" is the best resource, in my opinion. Working back from the pin, be bulletproof from inside 3 feet putting, practice putting from 10 feet and in (Pelz's "golden 8"), then use the lion's share of your time dialing in your wedges. Forget 150 yards and in, more like 80 and in, some distance where you have a snowball's chance of hitting to a makable putting distance, at least an easy two-putt. Long game is WAY overrated for the amateur. It's everything at the professional level because they need every last marginal advantage they can get to compete with the best in the world. Time spent practicing short game, any wedge game, chipping, pitching, distance wedges, is never wasted, and that feel carries over into the longer clubs. That's my two cents as a nobody. Just sharing my experience.
"This is not a two-way street -- this is me telling you what to do." I think he has more than enough cred for that statement. Ok, boss, you're my captain!
I’m in! Getting back into golf after spinal fusion - my goal is to get to single figures by this time next year. Currently sat around 28 I’ve made progress in short game thanks to Dan Grieves and your videos. Looking forward to seeing the progress over the next few months
Have just picked up golf a few months ago.. Mid 40's..age and handicap 🤣 will follow with interest. I know I won't get to single digits it's more the whole idea of structured "training" that has caught my eye. Thank you P.
Trying to keep the double and triples off the card is the most important thing to focus on first - many amateur golfers do not even use their handicap strokes they just play holes as if they are scratch golfers - get into all sorts of trouble and game over ! Fantastic videos
I’ve completely lost my swing these last 4 weeks and for the life of me I have no idea why , so i think it’s back to the drawing board, and this looks like my best bet 👍
Really looking forward to this. Been playing 3/4 years now and gradually coming down. Now hovering around the 10-12 handicap range but struggling to consistently break 80.
I thought I was subscribed. I hadn’t seen any videos lately and stumbled across this 3 hours after its release. I made sure I subscribed because you have great advice and have “walked the walk”. This series should be great, and I shared the video with my brother across the country. If we follow this series, we should play great in our annual golf trip. I’m a 9.6, but these tips are sure to help me and drop my handicap even lower.
Hey Paddy! Can you make a playlist for this series? This is great! I've got 4 kids and a wife all learning. I never thought of starting with speed as one of the first items... I'll build a plan and start doing this w/ them!
Just took a screenshot of my handicap. Hope it's a lot lower when I screenshot it after following your tips. Looking forward to learning more about the game.
Padraig, I appreciate your effort, your talk with Finch, I really really hope you come play in Calgary this year. Hope you collaborate with some others like Bryson, Bryan bros, Horvat.
Boom! I've watched a bunch of Padraig's videos but just subscribed. Same as a lot of you guys that I've been stuck between 12 and 14 for years. I'm in! Usually my big numbers come inside of 100 yards because of my wedge game, but I am open to any type of help.
6.3 atm… will def watch this.. been stuck in mid single digits for a few years now 5.4 the lowest I’ve been Would love it if Paddy could do a get to scratch series after this one.
Love your videos, guys! My two requests are: 1) I finally got a cheap launch monitor, so how do I use the data to improve my swing 2) Keeping control of your temper on the course - maybe Sergio might watch that one.

I've been stuck between 12.5 and 11.4 for several years, so I'm very interested in following this series. Thanks Padraig.
Preach Brother Paddy, preach….I’m all ears! Got from 21 to 14 over the last year, single figures is the goal!
I’m already single figures(7) but will follow this plan from a legend of the game - always room to improve 👏👏👏
Same but a 8! What can’t you learn of a major winner!?
Me 2
I'm a 5 but I'm ready to learn too! Let's go!!!
I’m a +2. Keep chipping away guys. Maybe one day, if you’re lucky, you’ll be a +2 as well. Probably not though.
I have gone from 13 to 8 this year. Will definitely be watching all these to get as close to scratch as I possibly can by next summer.
Can't wait for this! Been stuck on 17,18,19 last 15yrs & hav got lessons of nearly every Pro in Ireland 🇮🇪 at this stage! Bring it on Padraig 💪
Same!! LETS GO!!!!!!

What a concept. Exactlty what I need coming to Aussie summer! Appreciate your time and effort Paddy😊

Huge fan of your no BS and down to earth approach. Really looking forward to the course and making it back to single figures.
Love it, will follow this plan. Handicap is already coming down after putting on some speed over the winter. This has straightened up my driver as an added bonus too!

This is Great Paddy!! Let’s do it. I’m all in.
Thanks so much Paddy-very generous of you-I'm in !!
Excited to get started! I'm a 12 that doesn't play too often, but would love to get to single figures let's go Paddy!
I am going to follow this Paddy, I am stuck on 14 and it’s driving me nuts!
Haha - my handicap's 10. This might tip me over the line - thanks Paddy 🎉🎉🎉

What a Legend of game. Thanks Paddy! I'm going to get there with your plan for us.
This is actually a very exciting journey, count me in!
Looking forward to it... I'm subbed and ready to learn from a master. Let's do this thing!❤
I’m in! Getting back into golf after spinal fusion - my goal is to get to single figures by this time next year. Currently sat around 28

Go for it Paddy! I can't wait to start!
OK I'm ready to get started.
Looking forward to the next video. Thank you so much and congratulations on the HOF induction!
Pumped for this - 16 handicapper and looking to get to single figures so love this idea (especially the stuff I can do at home!)
Have just picked up golf a few months ago.. Mid 40's..age and handicap 🤣 will follow with interest. I know I won't get to single digits it's more the whole idea of structured "training" that has caught my eye.
Thank you P.
My handicap is 21. I will follow these tips for a year and hopefully get below 10 in HCP next summer😊
Awesome looking forward to this series

looking forward to the series. If I may make a suggestion... a playlist for this series will be great 😉
Congrats on the win Padraig! And thanks for the vid!
I like your direct approach it is refreshing in the current world
I’ve completely lost my swing these last 4 weeks and for the life of me I have no idea why , so i think it’s back to the drawing board, and this looks like my best bet 👍
Can't wait for this series to start. Hopefully it is very soon!!
Thank you Padraig, this was such a great ‘reset’
This is gonna be great! Already single figures but I'm sure this will make me better and more consistent. Thanks Padraig!
Will be very informative for us in the 5-10 HCP as well, can't wait!
Really looking forward to this. Been playing 3/4 years now and gradually coming down. Now hovering around the 10-12 handicap range but struggling to consistently break 80.
Love this! If you could release them all asap as I’ve got a big comp on Sunday 😂
Seriously though, looking forward to this series. Legend.
Looking forward to this. I've slId from 12 to 14. Just cannot keep the double bogies and 'meltdown' holes off the card!
What a treasure as a teacher! Thanks
Thank you. You time to create this content is appreciated.
Hey Paddy! Can you make a playlist for this series? This is great! I've got 4 kids and a wife all learning. I never thought of starting with speed as one of the first items... I'll build a plan and start doing this w/ them!
Thanks for your great advise and your an great example
This is just my goal this year! Thank you very much Paddy! 👏👏👏

Already in single digits (8.5) but looking forward to watching this series 👍
What a legend!!! Can't wait!!!!
Let's do it. I'm following your lead.
I love that thought process of getting down in 3 from 100 then 150
Awesome idea! Can‘t wait to follow the series :)
We love you, Paddy! ❤🙂
Just took a screenshot of my handicap. Hope it's a lot lower when I screenshot it after following your tips. Looking forward to learning more about the game.

I'm in, stuck on 18hcp, really wanna improve, let's get it started 💪🏻
Boom! I've watched a bunch of Padraig's videos but just subscribed. Same as a lot of you guys that I've been stuck between 12 and 14 for years. I'm in! Usually my big numbers come inside of 100 yards because of my wedge game, but I am open to any type of help.
Looking forward to this
This is going to be epic. I can't wait.
Looking forward to this series! 11 here and my goal is low single digits.
6.3 atm… will def watch this.. been stuck in mid single digits for a few years now 5.4 the lowest I’ve been
Would love it if Paddy could do a get to scratch series after this one.
Can't wait to start the process!
Easily the best content, and it's clear you actually give a ....and want people to play well and enjoy the game
I play off 13. Can't really get to that next stage- a regular break 80 player. Looking forward to this.

I'm here for it mate! Cheers
Cheers Fodger, let the games begin.
14 here. Ready for the single digits!
Lets go, im pumped
Love your videos, guys! My two requests are: 1) I finally got a cheap launch monitor, so how do I use the data to improve my swing 2) Keeping control of your temper on the course - maybe Sergio might watch that one.
What monitor did you get?
I’ve been injured for past 4 months, so no RUclips golf
Looking forward to seeing what Paddy has in store.⛳️🏌️♂️
He is an absolute champ
