Real talk as someone brand new to AoS, having the in-depth talk-abouts are really helpful (even if I don't understand half the lingo being said) is really helpful man. Appreciate all the effort.
as i'm watching this, i'm in the process of assembling my first ever set of miniatures (of any type) and since last night, i'd been roadblocked by indecision over what weapons I should assemble the units with. (since i've never played before, but I'm trying to learn, and was worried I might assemble them 'wrong' by choosing the wrong weapons loadout on the models) just hit the point in the video that says the exact weapons the model is holding doesn't matter for 4.0 and just like that, a massive weight was lifted off my chest, glad I hadn't actually made it to that point of construction before watching, cuz now my unit champion gets to have a badass sword!
That’s been my bet since the first terrain article talked about terrain that can “even fight or move” If that doesn’t fit a giant castle on mecha spider legs to move and give troops cover or hold still to open fire then I don’t know what does.
This is by far the best rules deep dive out there. The army overviews are great too! Thanks for being such a pillar of the community and going over it all, not just the shiny bits like everyone else.
About a year ago I trashed AOS on this channel. It was the video about asking the question is AOS a trash game. I was wrong. A friend of mine pushed me to play different battles again and after a period I started really liking the game. I bought a City of Sigmar box and built myself a Greywater Fastness army. I even won a couple battles. I even like AOS more then Old world now or 8th fantasy battles. So to cut this short. Sorry for my rant, I was wrong. AOS is a great game and I'm looking forward to the 4th etd.
This is fantastic Rob.. Your AoS4 content has been nothing short of superb... But for a new player like me, this is just perfect. Thank you for all the work
I feel like in MTG you build the stack and in AoS4 it is pre-constructed and you just examine what lives on each layer and apply reactions when available
This has been a great help. I'm just getting into AOS and Warhammer as a whole and this has been really good. I'd love to see a video on the manifestations if there's not one already.
Thanks for this video. I’m new to AoS. I’m currently building and painting Stormcast Eternals and Orcs & Goblins that I get every month through Hachette. I’m really looking forward to playing my first game and this video gives me the confidence to give it a go.
I've played a good number of spearhead games but tomorrow I'm going to play 2000 points of AoS for the first time. Your video was really helpful to fill the gaps while hobbying. Thank you so much! ❤
Any chance of getting these vids regularly uploaded to the podcasts again? I only have time to listen in the car and miss not being able to keep up to date. Mega selfish of me I know! x
Currently have 6 spearheads ready for the crew. THey are not aware, but there will be no excuses to TRY AoS4 out. Very excited, thank you for the content across multiple fronts.
00:51:40 Could just be my tired brain, but are we certain this doesn't mean that you can pull a "strike-normal" unit into strike-first? It says it does not ignore _strike-first_ or _strike-last._ Moreover, it doesn't say " _for example_ you could not pick a unit with..."
GW wordings usually leave something to be desired, and while this edition seems to have picked up the wording game alot, there are still a few confusing spots to me.
I’m struggling with this as well!! @thehonestwargamerstreams can you help us with your infinite wisdom and supreme knowledge? Thanks for what you’re doing! Love your content! Ciao
This video has taught me that playing Age of Sigmar is super simple, barely an inconvenience 😁 Honestly though thank you so much, this has been a great video to help me (as a AoS newbie) to understand the core mechanics. A couple of questions I do have, though: 1. Can a hero be "in" a unit? Not like attached like you used to be able to in the old days of Warhammer Fantasy, but just moved so that they're surrounded by another unit. To try and explain better, let's pretend that the C's are my valiant Cryptguard and the G is the noble Grand Justice Gormayne: C C C C C C C G C C C C C C 2. When you say that it doesn't matter what weapon a model is physically built with, is that the same for command groups? I foolishly built my heroic Morbheg Knights all with lances, thinking that having a banner/musician would mean they also had a weaker attack profile.
Nice work Rob, I do want to point out that few units still propose different weapons for few models as you can see it in the brute warscroll with the same good old 1 every X models can take X weapon 😊
On jumping down: The way I read it is that a model can always jump down any distance regardless of movement value but ends it's move entirely after doing so. The sentence "Then, that model can jump down any distance, but doing so immediately ends their move." seems to support this. Models can also climb down using their movement value and subtracting the distance from that value then continue moving afterwards. This seems specifically made for when a model does not have sufficient movement to move down levels, they can still jump.
I think the point about companion weapons is who uses the ability. They cannot be modified by ability used by a "friendly" "unit". The Seraphon ablility is non used by a unit, but by the player, since it is an alligiance ability (also it is specified).
Loved the video, a quick tidbit about your ad break for Honest Wargamer faction tokens. I was interested and checked out the shop, but seeing them grey kinda left me unsure as it left the details tough to tell. If you have someone paint up a sample of each of the tokens for your pictures, it might help people on the fence. I know you're already doing tons of work and this is probably low priority, but it might help you move some more of those awesome tokens. Thanks!
I have a question about Terrain, in particular cover. Say there's a 10" high wall between two units. Two units are an inch or two past the wall and can see each other clearly. However no models besides the two front ones can see models in the other unit. Do they have cover vs each other? The rules say "When a unit is targeted by an attack, the unit is considered to be behind a terrain feature if it is impossible to draw a straight line from a model in the attacking unit to a model in the target unit without the line passing across that terrain feature." On the one hand you can pick two models that can 100% see each other and thus argue the target isn't behind terrain. On the other hand, you could pick one of the models farther along that no models from the attack unit can draw a line to and say it IS behind terrain.
Question: Let's say I have unit A wanting to charge unit B. They are 10" Apart. I roll an 8. Do I still get to move closer? Or do I have to remain stationary?
You’re always my best Morgan Freeman, showing up to clearly and pleasantly explain rules and tactics to me. Keep up, you’re doing the Lord’s work! But, which lord…? 😜😆😆😆😎
Hello Rob, one question! Can i use covering fire after use redeploy with the same unit? Despite of the keywords thats both have (with a unit that cant run and eirher shoot). Same question with counter charge and charge habilities like "Assault boat". Thanks for your time!! BEST wishes from Spain!!
3 years starts now....... For AOS 5. So roving packs to be wholly within? Suspect folks will keep terrain light so they can keep models in range. I would suggest using felt to show the foot print, green for a forest then you can shift the trees around.
So if a unit is in combat it skips the shooting phase unless it has the shoot in combat ability. As the shooting ability says that a unit can not shoot if it is in combat.
@thehonestwargamerstreams Thank You for compiling all the rules in this video! Our team "Bridge Trolls" are hosting a GT July 13th which ends up being release weekend, luckily, we are located in a community that is primed, ready and hungry to play 4th Ed, and we will be running as 4th edition ruleset. Fortunately, videos like yours are going to really help us prepare for the day and have as much fun learning the game, in a GT setting, as possible. Thank you again and I will be keeping a close eye on your channel as you share more information.
Thank You so much for this video. I have one question - would the unit with Strike first be able to pick “strike normal” unit to fight immediately? It is said it couldn’t do it with strike last units.
Do we have clarity on how Priests with a power level greater than 1 work? Do they have one pool of ritual points, or separate pools for each prayer? Like, could a Priest (2) chant a prayer they didn't want answered to bank ritual points for their second prayer in the same hero phase?
I had a a couple clarifications about priests please, firstly are ritual points generic, so can be gained by doing a different prayer then they are eventually used for, second does a roll of 2 in magical intervention count as a 1 and loses you ritual points? Thank you
There will be timestamps but will take time to make but if anyone is watching it and wants make them il give you a cookie

Cities of Sigmar may not have a city to deploy- but that got me thinking that a Cog Fort would make a fantastic faction terrain for them
That’s been my bet since the first terrain article talked about terrain that can “even fight or move”
If that doesn’t fit a giant castle on mecha spider legs to move and give troops cover or hold still to open fire then I don’t know what does.
Thanks for this, listening while painting my first AoS army.
I'm still at work and I have homework to do when I get home but instead I'll be watching this video. Damn it.
Have fun
Professor Sigmar taking us all to AoS 4 school. Thank you!!
My pleasure!

Do ranged weapons that shoot in combat still have to target the unit they're in combat with?
Rob you utter Champion
Does "Shoot in combat" abilty allow you to "shoot outside combat"?
why do the dice shown in the rule book apparently have skulls on random sides?!?!?!?!?
