The new Hedonites of Slaanesh battletome is fascinating from this perspective. I'd be eager to see an analysis of it in this lens - units and even the whole army (tempo, archetype, etc) all seem to change as depravity accumulates - and then change back when depravity is spent!
Rob, this is a great primer for the newer player like myself. Having examples of units that matched the jargon used by experienced players let me visualize units in my own army that matched. But as an older fella, maybe slow down just a tad. You love this game so much and get so excited talking about it you speed up. I had to rewatch a couple of sections to get all the words in my brain. I think a great example of tempo is Poker. You have times when players are putting in the bare minimum and times when players are all in. If you are always going all in… or never going all in, your play becomes predictable, and other players can manipulate the game state to work against you. Winning players use each strategy as a tool in their kit… and timing those moves is crucial.

You move around and shoot or charge power into a limited area, picking off the relevant enemy pieces while minimising the amount of damage you take in return. Then later game you have taken out enough of the enemy to start scoring big.

Great video, big fan of your content. You could have maybe split it into two or even three. It might be worth linking some of your other videos that are mentioned in the description?
Awesome job dude! Playing my first tournament last year in aos and I must say that you really need to play the mission and not the army, to clarify I went with a very alpha strike army (ironjawz) and I went full throttle very early on and failed lots of changes. I could have held back a turn or two then crash in, but I learned this way too late. Love the content keep up the great work 👍
One army type you missed - Highlander List. Army where the player basically takes one of every unit usually because they are a narrative gamer and are building to include all their pet units.
And i Will also put it here so its for everyone : video idé: Go over all the battleplans one by one. And run down turn 1 and turn 2 strategis for them. Then you can use the keywords from this video. Big love ❤️
Amazing video. Awesome sharing. List building is very important, but something that NO ONE ever dive deep is the art of Deployment. Deployment is a very complex skill and is highly reactive, changing with battleplans and opponent's army list. So many dos and do nots and consideration that it will make you go back to review or change your list. What's your take about this critical and essential skillset? Do you think that it is difficult to methodically explain and do a video?
Hey Rob! Even though I'm not an aos player, I love your videos. I'm just wondering if all this came up as an excersise ("we need to find a name for this type of unit") or more like gradually and spontaneously ("oh this unit is like an anvil) ?
@The Honest Wargamer loved the vid with Peachy and The Painting Phase crew, too! Hopefully Scott and you can do some colab! Throw in some Heywhoah and Venturella, and you might just Slap-Chop the internet into Vince McMahon-meme-overload!!
@@TheHonestWargamer A video on Tempo would be great. I think my game falls apart when I read the game as more of a poker bluff for when to push or consolidate, it's not a trick just maximizing from options. Is 'wrong' tempo bad play or a problem brought over from list building that translates into the game?
Another great video! I think it would be interesting to do a bit more of a deep dive on Tempo. It is such an interesting topic. Like you said it is a bit of an undertaking to do, so I do understand it would be hard to cover.
I've recently gotten into AoS and your videos are very informative. I noticed though that you mention that you can stack mistic shield with all-out defence for a +2 save. The book says that a save roll can not be modified by more than +1. I was wandering what you thought about that rule, since it says that save rolls can be modified by more than -1 rend.
Ok so you can take 4+ to a 3+ If you have rend -1 you go back to a 4+ If you add +2 to your save so you will still roll 3+ but will if more rend -1 because you have +2 to the -1 So you can never modify the dice beyond one but can start to ignore minuses
I'm new to the game. At 5:48 you talk about Mystic Shield and All-out-defense allowing you give a unit +2 to it's Save rolls, but in the core rules (13.3.3) it says "A save roll cannot be modified by more than +1 (this is an exception to the principle that abilities take precedence over core rules)." How do you get +2 to save rolls? Is it only to negate an All-out-attack?
All out attack gives you +1 to hit So you can only change a save by 1 so a 4+ to a 3+ but you are adding to your save roll so really you are rolling a 4+ and adding one. You can add multiple pluses via mystic shield and cover for example there fore you are at +2 to those rolls not a 2+ Rend substracts from save rolls so -1 rend is 4+ save -1 to the roll. In this way you are ignoring different amount of rend cause the pluses cancel out the minuses and vice versa Hope that helped
Hi Rob, as always a great and informative video! As a new player I'm always looking for new information to improve myself and your videos are always a good source of information! It would be cool if you would make a video about list building in your masterclass series. What all needs to be considered. What is the strength of my army, which archetype do I choose. What units do I take and with what background. Maybe it can be connected with a checklist ;) I hope I could describe my thoughts^^ Keep up the good work!!! Greetings

OH YES!! thanks. I know its a bit long but no idea what to cut
@TheHonestWargamer honestly I thought it was perfect. A half hour is perfect to get good depth on the topic while not being too long.
No, no “Raging” was the right descriptor for those e-sports communities.
Hahaha but also hahaha
Enjoyed the insight into the terms. They give us a tool to understand and analyze the game. Thank you.
Got a lot out of this, thanks Rob
I'm really glad
Amazing content. Thanks so much Rob for continuing to contribute to the state of the art in understanding gaming.
means a lot. thankyou
Great video, big fan of your content. You could have maybe split it into two or even three. It might be worth linking some of your other videos that are mentioned in the description?
Having made it thats was the first bit of feedback i got
The mad lad's done it again!
Love you bud
Awesome job dude! Playing my first tournament last year in aos and I must say that you really need to play the mission and not the army, to clarify I went with a very alpha strike army (ironjawz) and I went full throttle very early on and failed lots of changes. I could have held back a turn or two then crash in, but I learned this way too late.
Love the content keep up the great work 👍
One army type you missed - Highlander List. Army where the player basically takes one of every unit usually because they are a narrative gamer and are building to include all their pet units.
I'm not sure that's actually a thing. Like stillmania
And i Will also put it here so its for everyone : video idé: Go over all the battleplans one by one. And run down turn 1 and turn 2 strategis for them. Then you can use the keywords from this video. Big love ❤️
On it
Amazing video.
That's on the list
Hey Rob! Even though I'm not an aos player, I love your videos. I'm just wondering if all this came up as an excersise ("we need to find a name for this type of unit") or more like gradually and spontaneously ("oh this unit is like an anvil) ?
I am not a competitive player, I build my armies around a theme or some battle from the lore. So I think you missed the archetype Soup :)
There are not archetype feelings
Fantastic content! Funny, informative, and made me think about my next Sylvaneth list :)
Perfect
Thanks for the hard work, babe.
Anytime cutie
@The Honest Wargamer loved the vid with Peachy and The Painting Phase crew, too! Hopefully Scott and you can do some colab! Throw in some Heywhoah and Venturella, and you might just Slap-Chop the internet into Vince McMahon-meme-overload!!
remind me when the spell lore video comes out, because that's gonna be filled with some extreme hot takes
And bad takes I hope
@@TheHonestWargamer definitely mine in the comments.
Loved the video. Thank you! I can’t wait to start putting what I’ve learned into action.
You got this!
Fantastic video. Not sure of if my 11 gyrocopter and ironclad list is a meme you tell me 🤷
It's a meme but that's perfect
Thanks Rob!
My pleasure
@@TheHonestWargamer A video on Tempo would be great. I think my game falls apart when I read the game as more of a poker bluff for when to push or consolidate, it's not a trick just maximizing from options.
Is 'wrong' tempo bad play or a problem brought over from list building that translates into the game?
Good explanations
Another great video! I think it would be interesting to do a bit more of a deep dive on Tempo. It is such an interesting topic. Like you said it is a bit of an undertaking to do, so I do understand it would be hard to cover.
Loved the video! I really enjoy this kind of niche/high level stuff and it absolutely prompted me to think about some of my lists in a new way.
Great video! Loves it! Fyreslayers = castle haha
Yeah mobile one
I've recently gotten into AoS and your videos are very informative. I noticed though that you mention that you can stack mistic shield with all-out defence for a +2 save. The book says that a save roll can not be modified by more than +1. I was wandering what you thought about that rule, since it says that save rolls can be modified by more than -1 rend.
Ok so you can take 4+ to a 3+
If you have rend -1 you go back to a 4+
If you add +2 to your save so you will still roll 3+ but will if more rend -1 because you have +2 to the -1
So you can never modify the dice beyond one but can start to ignore minuses
@@TheHonestWargamer oh i get it now. So it still adds up but anything avove +1 is used to cancel rend. Awsome thank you for the reply!
Love it keep on posting this!
GREAT VIDEO!!! fantastic informative content.
Glad you enjoyed it! Also you rock
I'm new to the game. At 5:48 you talk about Mystic Shield and All-out-defense allowing you give a unit +2 to it's Save rolls, but in the core rules (13.3.3) it says "A save roll cannot be modified by more than +1 (this is an exception to the principle that abilities take precedence over core rules)."
How do you get +2 to save rolls? Is it only to negate an All-out-attack?
All out attack gives you +1 to hit
So you can only change a save by 1 so a 4+ to a 3+ but you are adding to your save roll so really you are rolling a 4+ and adding one.
You can add multiple pluses via mystic shield and cover for example there fore you are at +2 to those rolls not a 2+
Rend substracts from save rolls so -1 rend is 4+ save -1 to the roll.
In this way you are ignoring different amount of rend cause the pluses cancel out the minuses and vice versa
Hope that helped
Great video. Especially useful for new wargamers. Thank you.
Glad I can help
Great stuff as always rob!
Really Appreciate that
Yet again, another great video. Thanks for all the amazing content you put out there
Another great video!
Very nice video!
Amazing, love this! ❤❤❤❤❤
So glad!
Hi Rob,
as always a great and informative video! As a new player I'm always looking for new information to improve myself and your videos are always a good source of information! It would be cool if you would make a video about list building in your masterclass series. What all needs to be considered. What is the strength of my army, which archetype do I choose. What units do I take and with what background. Maybe it can be connected with a checklist ;)
I hope I could describe my thoughts^^
Keep up the good work!!!
Greetings
Hi! Very nice vid.
Now i have more questions than ever.
Can I Ask for help with describing armies?
Not sure what playstyle they are good at.
Flesh eaters courts? Alpha strike?
Kruleboyz?
Fyreslayiers?
Karadron overlords?
Thanks guys!
Comment for the algorithm gods! Hoping this will prevent me from losing with S2D so much
Run loads of chosen!? Profit!?
Keep these strategy videos coming!
More to come!
