    I dig the honest on this video. I love a 79 and my kids are 6 and 8 yrs old, so I would like one and only upgrade as they get older as the ride gets rougher for them.

    I like your honest approach to this series of videos. Don’t run a 79 myself, but it is good to hear any improvements you would make, if you done it again.
    Well done 👍

    Sick video love the 79. I'm pretty comfortable shifting from low box to high box at a 20-40 kmh speed. The toyota owners manual says you can basically shift out of low range at any speed under 100kmh

    I speced mine with a short tray as I don't have a canopy.
    Agree with you the rear axle correction and chassis extension.
    Too expensive to do though.

    I own a 2020 76 series which I bought primarily to tow a 3.2 tonne boat and the occasional beach launch. It does the job only adequately. It’s unfortunate that us 70 series owners have to spend so much extra money to extract full power potential but, even doing so, like yourself exceed its GVM / GCM. I’m now of the opinion, if you’re towing a heavy trailer, or carrying weight, buy an Isuzu NPR or equivalent truck and with the savings, a smaller vehicle for day to day driving. It’s safer and it makes sense.

    Picking up my 79dc with the JMACX 4495 next month. Bring money and time and willingness to compromise. Due to the "supply chains" and lead times I didnt get exactly what I wanted. But at least it's here and ready to go.

    I have enjoyed watching your videos. I bought a 79 DC last year and had some mods done because we will be towing a 3500kg Van. It was interesting to hear what you had to say in the video because I have had some of those mods done, the 300mm 4495kg JMACX kit and a tray canopy by MITS Alloy with water fridge, drawer system and lithium power . The car drives well and handles off road really nicely. I will need a tune or a chip I'm sure when I get the van. I would love the Auto Conversion but its not cheap.
    I agree with what you said, the 200 with a cut would have been the go but the cost just to buy a top of the range 200 was incredibly high then you add the mods.
    I think overall when you want to tow heavy loads our choices are limited unless you go the huge american trucks, all other utes towing heavy vans at 3.5 ATM will need to have GVM upgrades aswell to be legal.
    Like I said I enjoyed your video and look forward to your towing video.

    • @franklowe3798
      @franklowe3798 2 года назад +3

      Yeah I did the the same brand new dmax ,just ordered a brand new 79 with lovells 4.2 tonne gvm upgrade. D max is just a little toy compared to the 70series the d max struggled with loads and towing felt to unstable with 2.5 tonne behind it . Good daily driver though go to shops, head to beaches , useless for over landing and work, I have found that I’d rather put up with the 79 series short comings and have a very capable vehicle than have the comfort and convenience of the d max.

    I would have cut a 200 if I had my time again. But I won't sell my 79 as I've poured way to much into it.

    Would you still buy one if you were towing a smaller camper trailer? (1.2t). How does your partner find the ride comfort? I’ve ordered one but debating is a IFS dual cab would be better.

    • @SmartTouringSystems
      @SmartTouringSystems  2 года назад

      That is a great question. The dual cab will be more comfortable agreed, but for all of its short comings I think I would still have the 79. You will enjoy it. Just set it up fairly soft.

    my baby. 2016. gm auto, remap, 200hp at 1500 rpm. true track. para springs remote superior shocks. great off road. good fuel use. owes me 150 grand. excellent touring. 200 series all look the same. they will bury me in this thing. even at $400 to fill it up...

    Yeah I made the mistake of buying a 2018 second-hand one and its cost me a small fortune to get it up to scratch. And with some changed circs I reckon I will sell it now Ive done all the work, and possibly in the future consider a new one. Anyway, I'm already committed to putting on Sunraysias with new tyres. Any downside to the 25 - offset at the back? My tyre guy wasn't particularly enthusiastic about the idea.

    How do you find the browndavis auxiliary fuel was thinking of putting one on my 17 single cab, do you have any info on your watertank and pump system?

    • @SmartTouringSystems
      @SmartTouringSystems  2 года назад +2

      Hi Ralph.
      The brown Davis 110 Aux works well and having the ability to feed the engine directly from it rather than pumping from one tank to another is great.
      The water tank was custom made stainless steel, and the pump system I pieced together myself so I could draw from an external water source to refill it. Takes some time to get it altogether.
      If I get some more comments I might go into more detail about it. As it was hard to find something of the shelf to fit the Toyota tray, and be substantial in size. ie 100L

    • @ralphfallace7192

      @@SmartTouringSystems cheers for that, still undecided which path to take as a lot of places are saying tray needs to come off to put these on, sort of make sense for both water and fuel tank to go on at same time so spacing can be worked out.

    How tall are your tool boxes and what brand are they?

    • @SmartTouringSystems
      @SmartTouringSystems  2 года назад +1

      Hi Hayden.
      the tool boxes are TC boxes.
      they are sitting on a 40x40 alloy frame to get them up over the edge of the tray.

  • @benbarham8986
    @benbarham8986 2 года назад

    Hi mate,
    Sorry one more question 😂, the toolboxes and under tray boxes you have. I can see they're from TC boxes, have they held up well / been good quality? Are the undertray boxes the 600mm or the 750mm? Did they bolt onto the factory tray easily or was there a problem with the exhaust on passenger side?
    Looking at getting a set of the undertray boxes and one of the 1450L 600D toolboxes
    Thanks
    Ben

    • @SmartTouringSystems
      @SmartTouringSystems  2 года назад +1

      Hi Ben they are 750 and yes they held up really well considering. I have 10mm alloy plates on top of tray then bolt through the tray into the toolboxes with the same alloy plates inside them, this makes them non susceptible to cracking by mounting them properly, they clear the exhaust properly but fuel filler is a bit of mucking around.
      If you want to pm me via Facebook or email through sts website I am happy to send you some pics mate.

      @@SmartTouringSystems Another question please, sorry should have asked all at once, is the stainless steel water tank you have a custom made tank or off the shelf, where did you get it done?
      Thanks

    • @SmartTouringSystems
      @SmartTouringSystems  2 года назад +1

      No dramas. The tank was custom made to my design and was quite expensive but I would prob do again as we use it heaps.
      Was quite a big job to fit as I mounted it on rubber isolated bolts.

      He’s a tradie, will have financed through business got instant gst credit and 100% depreciation. That will have lowered his taxable income for the year by 40k. Then any interest on the loan is tax deductible.
      There’s depreciating assets and then there’s depreciating assets.

    Just imagine if you bought a vehicle that was fit for purpose. These things are tractors. Toyota knows it and the aftermarket industry around modding these knows. There's enough you tube videos highlighting the shortcomings that you didn't go in blind. I just saw the video with the wheel offset info and thought what a cluster fk 🤣🤣🤣
