Ludwig B. once said Bach is the ocean. I think what Batagov is doing here is showing us what was going on beneath the surface of that ocean. No flashy surface waves, just the deep, majestic currents of that sublime mind. I am so grateful to really hear this music for the first time. And that left hand!
Batagov of Glass.
I realize I am kinda randomly asking but do anyone know of a good place to stream new tv shows online ?
@Bronson Alec Flixportal :)
@Milan Melvin Thank you, signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) Appreciate it!!
@Bronson Alec You are welcome :)
I do love Bach. Now, I do thank and appreciate Anton and his tutors. Very lean, nice, relaxing.

Is always interesting to listen a russian pianist to play Bach.

All the best.
Very inspiring.
exeptional ! the part after 50.25 is stunning, slow and gets me by my throat
que genio maravilloso
I wanted him to keep the initial tempo throughout, without rushing even in the repeating part. Must have been suitable for sleeping and meditation.
👏👏👏🙏👑💐💐💐
No no. This will not do. I have Batagov's recording of Messiaen's Vingt Regards. It's absolutely amazing and one of my favourites. I had high expectations for this video. I couldn't make it past the Courante, and almost didn't get through the Allemande. We have plenty of evidence in the music of other composers of the era, as well as in documentary accounts by (sometimes quite knowledgeable) observers of the era regarding things like the use of tightly sprung rhythms, double-dotting and the like in the opening section of overtures in the French style. And indeed, When Batagov repeats this section, he plays it magnificently. But then all the energy and tension is drained out of the fast section of the overture by his slow tempo. As for the Allemande, yes, there's lots of evidence to say that Allemandes in Bach's time were definitely not fast. More of a "moderato", But there's nothing to suggest that they are Adagios. Regarding the Courante, the very name of the dance means running. That must be respected.
Having said all that, Batagov's tone production here (as in his Messiaen) is superb - beautiful, and beautifully controlled. I'm willing to try him in almost anything, but sadly, I think he's doing Bach a disservice here.
Your comment is a perfect example why I do not listen most of the classical music, which for some odd reason is supposed to have the-one-true-way. And why should I care how it was played back then? Bach needs a service? Still!?
I like this version a lot.
I thought the thumbnail of the video was the emperor looking down at a performance from starwars

I love Batagov playing P.Glass. He plays Bach way too slowly, sucking music out of the composition and toss it like an empty skin
Bach did not put metronome notations on his scores, so how can you tell Batagov plays Bach "way too slowly" (sic)? It is "slow" not "slowly" btw.
@@samopdrift Maybe @Santi allows himself this comment because he can't hear any music there. Neither can I by the way. All I can hear is mannered sluggishness, willing to mimic deepness I guess. It's just a pain.
@@samopdrift is there any notation indicating playing the second ending fast as hell and the first slow as balls?
Correct grammar is ... 'played way too slowly' or 'way too slow'. Both are fine.
@@samopdrift No, "slowly" is correct. There is a formal distinction between adverbs and adjectives in English.
