- Assassin's Creed 4 Locate James Kidd. This is the final part of the quest to locate James Kidd on Tulum. Edward Kenway must move in an arc to his left and climb some obstacles and avoid being detected to reach James Kidd, and discover the first secret of James Kidd.
Nothing gives you self esteem like looking up a walkthrough video and seeing everybody else got stuck there too
This mission makes me want to sell the game back.

Part of my problem is I'm 58 and don't have lightning reflexes anymore, but I still have heaps of enthusiasm for gaming. Come on UBI, put in more checkpoints! Old guys don't want to have heart attacks playing your games and it wouldn't look good either,

After practicing with assassin's creed rouge this mission is now really easy but still it hell
Id say this game hasn't been tested properly, there is no way this difficulty is proportional to the rest of the game, and its ruining the enjoyment

Guys! A tip! If you go around the left, climb the wall, work your way around etc. There is a Assassin with a gun on the ledge. Just go over to that, and it sets a new save point from there. So even if you get killed, you can restart from further up, instead of redoing the whole thing from the start.
I honestly took 35 or more tries to do this. Try my solution.

@Versel_ eh, maybe because you favor combat more than stealth and patience.
There are so many ways this part could have been better, most of them revolve around the character controls either not responding or doing the wrong action. So far, I've punched rather than strangled a dozen times, run right past the target rather than latch onto the target, and there's also the time that the character decided to curb stomp assassinate a comatose victim rather than run even these actions aren't even close to the same keys. The biggest issueI have with this level is that it asks you to throw multiple hours of behaviour out the window, artificially and needlessly ramping up the game's difficulty for zero payoff. Attempt 37 and counting.
Made it at attempt 48. What's not covered in the video is that whistling to bait enemies into exploring will help you immensely. If you call enemies, especially the last 2 enemies before the rifleman, you can take them on one at a time. The trick is to sit right at the edge of the bushes. While their "inspection circle" is yellow, you can knock them out even if they are facing you.

These types of missions really kill the pace of AC4. I understand it's not a hack and slash, but fighting should always be an option when your stealth is blown. To force stealth and then make it 80% luck-based is absurd. After a few attempts prior to watching the video I did almost exactly what was done in the video and got detected at the same spot, except I wasn't lucky enough to trigger the save.
This is just a horribly designed level. Skill has very little to do with it, as the actual sneaking and path of cover are fairly intuitive to figure out. You just have to do the same thing over and over until all the random elements go in your favor. I guess they're getting a 1 star on the feedback system -__-
AC4 has a pace?
Fighting should not always be an option, the design of this stealth mission - and actually most of the rest of the game - is just bad. It's one and the same trick repeated 20 times, so that's just padding, a couple actually good parts, and a couple parts that show no semblance of design at all, they just throw stuff at you and be like, yeah, there is no intended clean solution, pray to RNGeesus.
The worst thing is the lack of options, any other game will have several paths to sneak around every time, its even like that earlier in the mission, but then this spot is limited to one fucking path that seems to only work if your lucky, even with timing.
@@chipperparrot It is? It's probably the most unique and interesting one, but also among the lowest in quality of moment to moment encounter design. I think AC2 and Unity are among the best ones, but i mean, AC in general are a fairly low bar in this regard. Just playing them for historical context and sometimes for adventure fiction, this is something these games absolutely excel at, though with execution problems in story progression. Liberation was pretty sweet, and fortunately short, if it was any longer it would have been an utter mess.
I thought I was the only one who couldn't beat this shit drives me fuckin crazy once I jump the last part to the tree limb I either fall or get caught this level will leave your plasma with a controller stuck inside it!!! lol not really

IKR the gunner is SUCH a bitch. Replayed this level like 8 times. Its getting EXTREMELY tedious

On the PS4
when you get to the bit where you use the 2 tree branches just run at the checkpoint and even if you fail you get a checkpoint, which is why in this video he gets detected but doesn't get sent all the way back

It's right before the gunner one. You knockout the two assassins and then jump across the branches. Like the player did in the video.
I just straight up sprinted to the checkpoint and knocked the gunner out.

Really enjoyed this game up until this part. Tried about fifty or sixty times to pass this area. You get so far, and then one error throws you all the way back to the beginning, which frankly, aside from being frustrating, starts to get incredibly boring. For a casual gamer like myself, I don't have the time to be replaying a single section for hours and hours. This section was aggravating enough that I finally stopped playing the game at only 15% complete. I knew that if I repeated this section over and over, I'd eventually get it, but with the limited time I have to play each day, it became no longer worth my time.

This bit would be 500% less frustrating if there were more saving points..... being hard to cross is okay totally cool but being fucking annoying because you have to keep doing the same shit over and over again just to screw up at the same spot every time is not cool.... that's not testing your skill that's testing your fucking patience which I am losing by every passing second :/
Making that ledge after the branches easier to identify ad a "grab point" would've saved so many people so many headaches.

Piece of cake with the Stealth Outfit...do the first set of assassin contracts in Havanna, Nassau and Kingston (you'll have to make your own way by ship to Kingston if early in the game). Total of 15 contracts, all easy, unlocks the stealth outfit that makes guards/enemies take longer to spot you. Incidentally, prior to the mission Kidd does say see you in some time or something along those lines and I'm fairly convinced that it's not just story dialogue, but rather a hint that you should spend some time doing something else i.e. the contracts etc (although how you'd know that I don't know)..also, when you do actually reach Kidd at the end of the sequence, the dude you meet just happens to be wearing what do you think? No coincidence I'm sure.
Yes, of course it can be done without the stealth suit, but as many commenters have found out it's definitely not easy and the contracts will take less time (probably couple of hours) than a lot of people waste trying to complete this mission and earn you a good handful of coins along the way.

A bit late to the party but this helped me a lot. Didn't know you could make a stealth attack from the grass when a gaurd has detected you and searches for you through the grass. You have to first stand up before him and then attack
Your not alone! I wouldn't have been nice if they told us stealth attacks where permitted. I nearly threw my xbox out the window trying this shit over and over, just for them to keep pulling me out from the bushes. I'll try again tomorrow and try to stealth strangle them all.

After a week of trying to figure this part out I was on the verge of tears!! And I like how u explored all the possibilities but I never noticed that ledge near the trees thank gawd for this help!! Now I can start having fun again instead of getting pissed off lol

A tip: Don't hold RT when knocking people out. Just hit X when standing behind them. Otherwise, others will hear the knockout even if they aren't looking your direction. This is what messed me up for so long.

Most bull shit part is at 3:24. It doesn't allow you to see what is over there yet expects you to be able to run across when their backs are turned. All this and they refuse to give you a check point.

I'm ashamed to say how long I looked; the way I had it figured it was near a waterfall, no way I figured it was inside a cavern and yeah the James Kidd thing drove me nuts til I got near the croc pond and killed the last two topside guards and made the tree limb leaps to the ledge (got busted of course) then it restarted within reach of James Kidd. Shoulda woulda coulda went here first! Thanks y'all.
the part that gets me is 4:59 when I try to jump off the branch onto the ledge he keeps falling down and i can't get back up, I'm stuck near the assassins and get caught :|

This video helped me out a lot I passed the mission after like 10 tries I figured out that you have to bait the enemy’s to get their attention then stealth attack each one 1 by 1.

I know everybody hates this mission. But I loved it. Everything can sometimes be so easy in the AC games. This was actually quite challenging. I loved it a lot.
I would have completely hated that whole part if it wasn't for the Yucatec Maya. Never expected to hear that language in a video game and was pleasantly surprised. At the beginning you hear some dude say "Baax ku betik?" (what is he doing?) When I got caught the first couple of times they would yell "kimike'ex!" meaning "everybody kill him".

For anyone having trouble, you can knock out the assassins, you just cant kill them. Makes it 100000 times easier.

I had an image in my mind that basically was that almost all of the assassin's Creed players protested outside the company building, to put more checkpoints in this mission fortunately, I beat the mission in less than 2 hours

It helps to make the video AFTER you know what the hell you're doing. I felt like 80% of this video was waiting on you to make a move.
I played an assassin's creed a long time, and I enjoyed it. This was back in 1995, I never played any other game of this series until now. I am enjoying the game play.
