It makes sense Kenway took a small fast ship, much wiser choice than a huge man o war, because as Kenway points out, he named it after a "sly bird", meaning it can fly away quickly.

Honestly, this game was way ahead of its time, and is criminally underrated. Would love to see an AC game in the pirate setting again, or at least a remaster of Black Flag.
Most dont realize the jackdaw is a hybrid between a brig and a frigate. Its as fast as a brig and as powerful as a frigate when upgraded to its intended purpose
Mr. Grim 501st it’s what’s called a clipper ship, I’ve studied pirate ships in my college class. Look up what type of ship the jackdaw is. It will show the info on this military ship. They are EXTREMELY powerful.
this mission kinda reminds me of jack sparrow stealing the brig "interceptor" from a man o' war "dauntless" in the first potc movie. everything id very similliar to potc, except detained aboard man o' war, freed some prisoners, and escaping from a hurricane
Keevo lemme guess. The Pearl is a hybrid Galleon, the Dutchman is a Race Built Galleon with modifications to the front side, the Silent mary is a spanish navy galleon, the interceptor was a brig, the Dauntless and Endeavour were Man o' Wars and the Providence/Province is a brig

Because Man O' Wars aren't particularly known for their speed. In this time, Edward needed a fast ship to escape the storm and with a Man O' War he would have been tore apart. Also, even he did manage to steel the Man O' War, the game would be insanely easy and would provide no challenge at all - overall it would make for a boring game. Man O' Wars are fun at first, but when you've had it for a while you'd wish you had the Jackdaw back under your wing.
I am loving the 12 year olds wondering why they did not take a man o'war so that was your default ship. It is as if they cannot imagine actually playing with it longer than five minutes - the game would be incredibly easy, and therefore provide no challenge. Even fully upgraded, it is best to avoid broadsides from larger ships, but in a Man O'war you could just tank it. Thank god they are not part of the design committee
Aside from being overpowered, reality kicks in too because I don't think you could commandeer a ship as big as a man-o-war with only about 20 crews or so. It's possible, but not worth all the fuss that will come when you have a huge ship but few crews, plus I don't think they will escape the hurricane in time with a man-o-war. ^_^

I ll never forget the first time i played through this mission, its the first scene that comes to my mind about this game. The fact that i 've never played a naval combat/pirate game before much less in that era made for such a great novelty for me. I clocked 200 hours on this game and still havent completed 100% sync.
Does any one else have the problem when during the cutscenes the animation runs slower than the sound, so that when a person finishes talking, their lips keep moving.
The only thing I would have loved is if we could paint the ship any colour we wanted. The ship was amazing with its elite colours but it would have been a nice little added bonus. If I had my ship I would call it (FALLEN ANGEL). its figure head would be a skeleton with angel wings holding a book by it telling a tale before its fall. The sails would be crimson and the ships colours would be black and red. With it having 36 cannons and built for speed to out speed enemy ships incase of emergency.

I never liked Ubisoft's games, especially not the AC series. But this mission, with the mood setting soundtrack, excellent sound and weather effects made me think that: OK, this is a really awesome game :D

The brig isn't even the most realistic vessel for a pirate but it would have to do. Those Galleons are slow af, there is no such thing as the Black Pearl.

Because a brig was still faster than a frigate, and Edward needed all the speed he can get to outrun the hurricane, while still managing a good hull.
the jackdaw is better when you upgrade it to elite it's a pro
