Just like Sylvester Stallone, Michael B. Jordan has proven that he is as talented of a director as he is an actor! I especially loved how this movie tackles issues of mental health, toxic masculinity, and (for Amara) learning discipline along with fighting techniques like a true martial artist. You can also feel how his love of anime influenced his filming style. The shots of Donny and Dame staring at each other through the locker room wall, the entrances for the fighters of both fights, the super slow motion of the fighters finding weak points in their opponents, even the montages. All of them are screaming like a Super Saiyan with anime love. And the final fight is honest to god one of the best and most creative fight scenes ever filmed. Physically their fighting styles are unique, Dame picks his moments carefully and the strikes hard over and over like a viper; while Adonis fights like dog, scrapping and pressuring his opponent, forcing them to make mistakes. And then when the fight goes into “The Void” that’s when it becomes the most anime inspired live action scene ever made. Donny and Dame seeing each other as kids in the corners and then fighting against prison bars and a homemade ring. And I loved how even though he won and he could retire again as the champ he looks in the ring like he has maybe one more fight in him. Michael B Jordan is now going to be the number one pick for any live action adaptation of any anime show or movie.
I'm sorry but the Rocky / Creed films have to be in the running for the greatest quality franchise ever. to be able to generate so many great stories 9 installments in.
The "artsy" stuff is because Michael B. Jordan is a big anime fan. He definitely was inspired by the manga Naruto because there's even a Naruto Shippuden poster in Donny's room.
Lots of inspirations were drawn from Hajime No Ippo too, which is basically the best boxing anime out there. Hell, even Dame did Ippo's Dempsey Roll during the "artsy" part of their fight (I also like to assume that Adonis punching the tree during his training montage came from HNI too coz that's how Ippo also trains). A Dragon Ball Z reference was also there... when Adonis and Dame punched each other at the same time... IIRC it was just like what Super Saiyan Goku and Majin Vegeta did when they fought each other during the Majin Buu saga.
plus at the end of Creed 2 Rocky told Adonis it was his time now and stepped back to let him have his shine. then Rocky went to Vancouver to see Robert, so we dont know if he ever came back.
The style is known as "the cross arms" blocking. Foreman once said he learned it from the great Archie Moore. Look him up when you get the chance. Take care.
My biggest criticism when I first watched it was that there's an implication that Dame is going after Bianca as well, which is why there's the "I'm coming for it all" line, and why Dame talks about Creed's family. It just makes some of the dialogue feel a little off. I understand why they cut it though, as the fight was going to be personal even without that.
I agree with your take and that it seems out of context (Because it was never explored more and only hinted). But, the implication i got was it "could of been me" / "It should of been my life"" from Dame. He never pressed or put a move towards her in the nightclub but you could tell...????

I've been such a fan of Phylicia Rashad ever since the Cosby show. Her performance in Creed is just so powerful even in such a small amount of screen time. She's a legend and an amazing actress
Every time I watch this I get really emotional where he lost his mom speaking from someone who actually lost his mom there's no better fuel for the 🔥. Frfr. This was and still is a great movie especially for Michael B Jordan first time directing he did a good job 👍🏾👍🏾. Awesome reaction you two 🔥👏🏾👏🏾
I was actually nervous for this one. The first two Creed films were great, and Creed II ended on a note that didn't warrant a sequel. But, damn. This one was good and a solid beginning for MBJ's director career. I still don't feel Creed 4 needs to happen, but I'm crossing my fingers.
Life imitates art. We just had a championship match where the champ was busted open by an elbow (unintentional). The match was allowed to continue with the champ bleeding so much the blood was getting in his eyes, he lost the fight and his championships on a split decision.
The fun part about this movie when they fought....Michael b Jordan is anime fan and they took scenes from goku vs vegeta fighting ...also I think they took a move from the last broly movie
I didn’t miss Rock, Creed didn’t need him anymore he went on to built a dynasty. Creed didn’t need his advice anymore he was giving it now. Now where I did miss Rocky is at the funeral, he should have been there.
Nope, Creed 1 has by far the best-acted scenes, dialogues, the best plot, writing, cinematography, and storytelling; the only aspect that this is slightly better at is the visuals, and that's it.
@@reynaldolorenzo8409 Facts...Coogler was in his bag on the first Creed and crafted the perfect film IMO. That one shot scene of the fight between Adonis and Sporino alone is arguably the most incredibly executed scene in the entire Rocky/Creed franchise. Creed III is second.
My only problem with this film is they went straight into the Dame & Adonis fight after he beat Felix. In my opinion they should've fleshed out Dame more after he won his fight & then go into fighting Adonis.
The point of that was that Dame was reckless/out of his mind and shouldn’t have technically beaten Felix. Sure he should’ve defended or avoided Creed but deep down he wanted to get at Creed so when he was challenged he right away accepted.
Jaby and Achara, please react to The Holdovers and Poor Things. And after you guys finish Succession, The Bear should be next. Now that Better Call Saul and Succession is over, The Bear is currently the best TV show, and in June we get S3 so it would be perfect for you guys to get caught up.
Is it just me, or did Mary Anne’s death in this movie feel unnecessary? It was one of the most emotional standalone scenes of the series imo, but it really had nothing to do with the rest of the movie. Donnie recovered from it pretty quickly and it didn’t affect the plot at all. Imo it felt shoehorned in as a callback to Mickey’s death in Rocky 3, but without the emotional weight the original story beat carried.
If they're going to keep this going with the daughter I say let's wait about 5 years, time jump 10 years to her in her late teens /early 20s And to throw a curve in the story how about making her an MMA fighter instead of a boxer? There's certainly more popularity in women's MMA than women's boxing right now.
I really feel for Dame on this one. I hope next one would feature him getting back that title somehow. The right way. Like you said he's just a darker version of Rocky.
I will disagree with the artsy comments mainly because none of the previous Rocky or Creed movies took it to this artsy level when it came to the boxing. Ryan Coogler in the first Creed movie when he did the one shot take with Adonis and Leo that was about as artsy as we’ve gotten in the series & franchise. I felt this was a really nice change up in addition to.
What I find interesting is that real life boxers exist in this world too. I thought Apollo was supposed to be this world’s Ali but the ticket showed that Ali existed here too. Which probably means Apollo probably fought Ali and beat him since Rocky 1 came out around the time Ali was still fighting. Also punching the arms is legal. It’s a dick move, but it’s definitely legal. I fought in Golden Gloves myself and I’ve done it multiple times and never got called out for it. That elbow however wasn’t.

The movie was okay-ish; the reaction was better. The plot points felt too convenient for me, like, the "national television" scene should've had some more back and forth with the verbal jabs before the challenge was put up. Apparently this is the movie that ruined Majors life because apparently took steroids to bulk up for this role and it probably altered his mentality that led to him abusing his girlfriend.
Yeah, let's blame it on roids and not his lack of self-control that only got accentuated with steroid abuse. It's not like Arnold beat the shit out of his girlfriends when he competed
That's NOT TRUTH at all. 1st of all, "Magazine Dreams" was him playing a bodybuilder. 2nd of all, HE DID NOT abuse his ex-girlfriend, he did cheat on her (not defending him on that), she hit and slapped him. She chased him down, and when they went back to the car, she did the same thing again (the driver confirmed it, and no he is not working for JM). She went to the club, ran down his credit card, and has an alcohol problem. He broke up with her thought text msg, and she while going back to the apartment, she called him 32 TIMES and left 7 angry recorded msgs. Then pretend to commit the S-word for him to come back. The next morning, he saw the text msg, ran back to the apartment, it was lock (she did it) and he had to ask the receptionist to open the door. The whole time, she was awake, and was writing to her friend "I was a little scrappy with last night" NOT, "he hit me". He called 911, FOR HER, she didn't expect that. That's why you see the video of her on the floor, pretending to be passed out. Her reaction that you see on that video, she didn't expect him to call the police, she thought it was for the night prior, and not for her safety. Her injuries, she was drunk the whole night and when the doctor saw her, she scored the highest in an alcohol test. She said it HERSELF, she doesn't know how she injured HERSELF. So do your research next time. It was RECKLESS ASSAULT (unintentional), because she was holding his jacket when he tried to run away FROM HER.

@@HABO2210 That's NOT TRUTH at all.
