- Elden Ring is full of many different kind of players... in PvP particularly, players tend to act... erratic, to say the least. Ranni the witch dives deep into the mindset of these type of players.

Everyday, we drift further away from the moon🌙 What's yout stories on unbelievable players? PvP or PvE
Why is the Elden Ring community soooooooo toxic (and dumb)
I just play to have fun.^^ people spam a lot but it’s okay. I learn there patterns and take them down.
@@dreamsleeper1568Ever had someone throw a knife at you while waving
Jokes on you if we are all insane in the same way that means we are normal because we can agree that the hypothesis is true
The answer is simple he is mage hi can do approximately 0 damage without magic you can ignore the fact the Actual Mage build Damage Drops of the Cliff the moment thy are not casting but the fact remain and Suggesting to change your build to something you don't want to play jut because you er offended by the play stile is not a good advice in my opinion :)
the unfortunate part is spamming and being a dullard works against a lot of players so when they meet someone who counters the spam they are immediately like
"WOOOT HOW TF THEY DO THAT MUST BE CHEATING BRO"
Tbh, R1 spam + 200ms stunlock in ds3 suck
Devil's advocate time: If you are new to it, or generally not that well versed, it can be quite challenging to think in pvp situations. And even if you can think, and know what you could do to counter - it can feel risky to try going for it as that involves potentially fumbling with the controls. It isn't so much that someone may not grasp that "this isn't working" - but that the pressure of a pvp situation for someone not used to pvp can cause them to just get stuck on repeat mode. It's less about the game mechanics, and more about just not being used to the feeling of pvp pressure. Which can vary from person to person. There is a reason overcoming "the jitters" as it's called is a big moment, as it means one can react to pvp situations without being reduced to a deer in headlights, and isn't overwhelmed by them anymore.
It's a good idea to remember that experienced pvp players also suffer from the relevant half of the Dunning-Kruger effect (a cognitive bias present in all us funny little humans): the more experienced and competent you are at something, the more likely you are to overestimate the abilities and skills of other people while underestimating your own. A good example of this in action is the very same sort of "It's easy, why are you doing that, just do this!" reaction. And even if a newb understand what they got to do, executing it can be a completely different story.
Side point: For people not familiar with Fromsoft game control schemes, the controls can be really hard to get the hang of. It took the better part of my first play through for me to really get a hang of them. For sorcery, this can especially lead to spamming the same spell because you rather take your chances than try fighting both the controls and someone at the same time. So while there is a lot of information out there, yes, this information does not even if read/listened to per se mean someone will suddenly just...learn the controls, overcome habits, try getting out of their comfort zone, or get rid of the jitters allowing them to execute what they wanna do. I don't really see it as needing to be anger inducing. More so, just newbs being newbs and needing time to learn without people getting on their case about it.
You could say these people are lacking common sense, and you would be right. As in, the definition of common sense that means "good sense and sound judgement in practical matters", which often requires one to have enough practical experience to begin with. IE: Time spent playing and getting used to these sortsa games.
Oh, and usually early game there is I would imagine a fairly common sorcery experience. You aren't sure what you are doing, but you wanna try comboing different spells. Due to lack of understanding the controls, this gets one killed. Having been there not too long ago, I can tell you what lesson feels is implied here: spam, and don't change spells mid-combat because it's dangerous. It may sound silly, but this is kind of what feels logical early on. And once a habit is learned, which feels like a person's understanding of the very core of how to play sorcery, some will stick to their guns because early game taught them to not swap spells, or they get bonked by fast aggressive monsters that are usually best dealt with by killing them before they get to you.
With more spell slots added, this "tilt your head a bit, and you see why the wrong lesson is learned" logic becomes even worse, with the time needed to rotate spells increasing on account of more spells held. It again might feel like the game is at that point screaming at you "Spam! Stop swapping spells! Spam spam spaaaaam!" as from the lens of the wrong lesson, the reset time to the workhorse spell becomes longer, meaning what the original lesson felt like as the bread and butter bits of magic play can really start to make life hard for the newb trying to figure out which option to go for.
So in short, if a new player tries something and feels like the game punishes them for trying it (spell swapping and control struggles get em killed multiple times when spam wins them the day), they may come to the conclusion the game is communicating to them that it's a really bad idea in general as a principle. So spam it is. Organizing memory stone slots is also really annoying, as it feels like you got to take everything out to get anything going, rather than being able to easily arrange already chosen spells up or down in their appearance order. Scrolling through them is also somewhat inconvenient as it doesn't seem to have a way to scroll backwards, so you just gotta go through the whole list. Which, again, feeds the wrong conclusion that you ain't supposed to mess with spell scrolling and just stick to spammage.
Someone give this man a medal, or a degree, I'm not sure but I'm impressed
Well said.
Very well said. The hardest part about PVP is getting over those jitters, which mess with your ability to think and strategize. It can be especially tough because people who like to pvp regularly have geared their character and skills to pvp, which is hella different from the kind of stuff that's viable in pve. So whenever a new player gets dropped into a pvp situation, they're ill-equipped for the situation in nearly every sense of the word. Even if you did have other spells to use, the game requires you to change your spells at a site of grace, so if your current load out just happens to be shit, then you're screwed. Best you can do is try to scramble with the item menus to find something else you can use to fight with while the other player is chasing you down. Not to say people can't learn and improve, but we all start off somewhere.
True and real.
Also something to mention are balancing issues which lead to things like Rivers of Blood when Elden Ring first came out. While you could parry it in the beginning, it was still dangerous because it caused massive bleed buildup even when blocked. It wasn’t balanced and was spammed as a result. Which is why FromSoft balanced it.
While this is clearly an example of exploiting balancing issues, nothing in the video was exploiting. They just know how to play the game.
As a mage main I hate these kind of magic users so many mages just mindlessly spam and not combo their spells
L
As a melee user I find the ones that can actively combo spells both keeping from getting too close and keeping me at a distance are hard to deal with sometimes
Facts. Ill gladly fight any mage who actually thinks and tries to combo spells. But just spamming Comet, Stars of Ruin, Moon veil, ect then i dont want to fight you and your gonna force me to use golden protection against you.

Spam a low-cost spell a good few times, then hit em with gavel of haima when they run close! That's the real strategy! Nobody expects the gavel.
Reminds me of this meme where one guy “mains” scissors in rock-paper-scissors, and complains about an unstable meta and tryhards when someone plays rock against him.
That sounds so much like DSP.
Two things:
1. Did that dude really call rollcatching an exploit when it's been a feature of Souls games since Demon's Souls?
2. "How many years did you spend pissing on a toilet seat before someone told you to put it up" is now a new insult I shall use
As someone who doesn't PVP in online games (because I suck and panic), I am ever surprised at calls for honorable combat in a game players can't communicate effectively in. If spam works, keep doing it. If it doesn't, change or give up.
Keep in mind melee players spam a lot too. Spell casters get most of the flack because they can do it at long range, but the majority of melee pvper so the exact same thing up close with crouching poke, AoW spam, run poke when duel spear wielding, jump poke with same weapon setup, running r1 or running r 2 spam.
It happens more often than not. Those really good PvPers know when to use it and when not to and will almost always catch a player with some unexpected turn face and gank you move….and I have nothing but respect for those PvPers
The trick is not spamming, ever, even if it works, even if puts you at a disadvantage.
I don't win often in Souls' pvp, but i can hold my own and feel good about it.
"The trick is not spamming, ever, even if it works."
"I don't win often in Souls' pvp."
Hmm, I wonder why?
Fighting with honor is a luxury afforded to people who can win and are just plain better than the 90% of casuals who make up the majority of the playerbase. If you're always losing, maybe you shouldn't be telling others how to play the game. And maybe don't disregard effective tactics even good players use because you consider them dirty. Most people won't offer you the same courtesy. Everyone spams what works. The good players just know how to adjust their tactics.@@alessandrobaggi6129
@@alessandrobaggi6129 this👆🏽 I actively don’t spam because I like to experiment with different moves to see how well I can catch another player in something unexpected and occasionally use my AoW depending on its cheesiness
The thing is it doesn't and never works.
The projectile spells all rely on the fact that NPCs can't dodge. Against a player capable of dodging, they become useless unless you can read and trap them in a corner when they're out of stamina.

As long as there is only one spammer, and no phantoms, it's usually a non-issue, so yep!
A friend of mine once said "If they're spamming a move, you're spamming a mistake."
This should be seen as a good thing. People need to learn from their mistakes one way or another. Be the one to show them. If you want to help people out more send the a message and try and give them some help.
unfortunately, some people are just beyond help, and refuse to accept that maybe they're the problem
Indeed, some people need the Elden Ring varient of the Darwin Award tbh.
I know that I'm a person that don't have common sense for most games but after a bit I get there. I do ask for help and advise sometimes so i can learn from mistakes that I make or to prevent.
Some spams are very difficult to counter, if you’re getting golem arrow rained from afar, spinning slash on a nagakiba, crouch poke with dual naginatas, etc, if you’re not a certain build then these things require a significant amount of skill to navigate
They should just make it possible to parry spinning slash...
Ready a crossbow with explosive bolts and you're good.
ur right. unfortunately some things in this game are very difficult to counter and it sometimes leads to frustration. but i dont think that is anyone's fault. people should be allowed to be upset at difficulty, and others should be allowed to use whats available to them.
Have you even been spammed by 3 dudes with elden stars? Elden Stars projectiles don't really do much damage per hit, but it's definitely annoying.

The KOF reference was top notch! Yashiro is a seriois knowledge check character
The wildest thing is that of all the games to struggle with the concept, these are people playing ELDEN RING! Literally every boss and enemy endlessly spams attacks against you. The most basic lesson you learn while playing is how to deal with that. This is ultimately the result of people finding the most broken PVE build possible to beat the game as quickly and easily as possible, then trying PVP and being SHOCKED that after not practicing or learning the most basic game mechanics, they suck.
In defence of panic rolls I say you're just well panicking. When invaders unilive me that way, on respawn I always felt discouraged of how I'm unable to think straight in critical situations 😅
I once had a ROB spammer get mad at me for using hyperarmor through his weapon skill. I did not not got mad and, RESPECTFULLY , suggested he tried something new since ROB was not working as he expected. BTW this was PVP duel match.
His response?
"this proves you're a noob! No one would part ways with the best weapon in the game! LOL"
My point? When people interpret something as being really good or "the best", it becomes very hard to persuade them into trying something new, or even tweak his current strategy. Its an addiction basically, and spamming a perceived "really good" battle art, skill or sorcery is exactly that, an addiction.
Your adversary was definitely a noob 😉👍

Than again he might not be smart enough to know he can disconnect but neither here nor there. He had his strategy, and by marika it was gonna work ir else he gets sent to the shadow realms with Godfrey
Time to see what CrazyPotato did!
if spamming works on you, it's either because you're performing the same exact action
or because the enemy is using pre-nerf stars of ruin, and it's been A WHILE since the spell been made actually avoidable
Or you have 2 other people swinging at you and it's all but literally impossible to dodge all of them at the same time. I find that 8/10 times I get hit by spell spam it's because I'm busy trying to not get hit by the other 2 members of the gank. The other 2/10 times are a 50/50 split to my honest mistakes and idiocy, and people playing with a router powered by a potato because it's been over a decade and From's netcode is still asylum demon-shxt and there's no PING filters for matchmaking.
Or because some attacks have only one or very few things you can do to actually beat them meaning unless you go into the match already knowing how to counter them, it's just a guaranteed loss hence why people hate spammers.

I think part of the reason I really can't get into FromSoft PvP is that I just love the PvE so much, where the flashy stuff is actually usable. PvP is about roll catching and backstabbing and getting parried everytime you act aggressively. Or getting light spammed to death.
5:48 I love the Vsauce music here
The flashy stuff that isn't used in high level pvp, is okay-ish in lower level pvp. (Not including fights against overlevelled phantom summons, because they don't count as legit low-level pvp, sadly most invasions in lower levels have overlevelled phantoms.)

You see, these players can't think of another approach because, to them, there is no other approach. They've been storming through the game, beating every boss and area in one swift try, just by letting their overleveled friend tank everything while they sit back and fire their favorite pewpews. No need to develop any sort of awareness, or to learn to adapt to an unfavorable situation.

Spammers calling people spammers because they’re spamming in response to their spamming and getting mad because the counter spam is more effective than their spam? Spamception
I remember doing the PVP in DS1 where R1 spam was king. The thing I did was master parrying, because of this I've won PVP matches without getting hit once because spammers have no idea what to do when you know how to counter their spam.
It's a principle I cultivated in Dark Souls, as well. If you parried everything a Black Knight threw at you, they'd sit there with their guard up and just pace around. Especially backward. The NPC had no idea what option would result in a POSITIVE outcome. Players turned out to be sadly similar in this regard. When you parry an R1 or L2 spammer, they're forced to decide between getting parried again, or standing still and getting hit again.
Seasoned players would know to read the fight. NPCs don't, and end up meeting St Peter.
@@EmonticonGaming I had one instance in DS1 where I was invaded by a person in the painting world who used immortality hacks. The dude was an r1 spammer, he ended up rage quitting because he couldn't land a single hit on me because I kept parrying him. There is a popular saying if FGs. "If they are spamming an attack, you are spamming a mistake."
The only kind of spam I complained about was pre-patch stars of ruin which always landed a few hits (around 3 I think), and due to their timing it was completely impossible to dodge all of them unless you took cover which was sometimes impossible due to the open world and even a few colloseums

Honestly I think its just how ER is built, there is a ton of tools the players can use but it’s overwhelming for the casual player so they just look up stuff or listen to their friend who looked up stuff for them and if it successful they never really branch from it and therefore never learn to do more than their one trick pony.

I had success for a while intentionally spamming. The idea was to either lure the opponent into a false sense of security by thinking I was a newb or frustrate them into getting hyper aggressive. The goal was to bait them into making a mistake I could punish. Worked surprisingly well.
Spammers are the reason I stopped doing Fia invasions. They go for the crutchiest thing and when they try to go melee, they are worse.
If you're going to invade in Elden Ring, you're either going to get a gank squad or a noob with an overleveled friend just trying to get through the game. If it's the latter, you should not expect the noob to have two brain cells to rub together. If he did, he'd be able to conquer the game handily without relying on an overleveled phantom or even co-op at all.

Vaas from Far Cry 3: Did I ever tell you what the definition of insanity is ?
I remember when an invader sent me hate mail after I killed him with 1 attack in a 1v1. the battle starts, I fire a comet at him hoping that he thinks I’m a purely long range build, he takes the bait, dodges and charges in for melee combat and I immediately hit him with rock blaster, drilling into him until he dies. Not even a minute later I get a message that just says “pussy intel build.” Nothing was more satisfying after that.
Personal rule when I play a melee-caster build in: Never spam the same spell more than three times
I like to use the Glintstone Kris in melee-caster builds, usually with an offhand thrusting sword and offhand staff. Gives plenty of variety.
