James Franco's sexual habits were an open secret in Hollywood. Hell, when he was teaching at UCLA, it was a well known fact among the students that he hooked up with girls all the time, and that some women had to "be careful" about being alone with him. It sucks, but hopefully with some deep introspection and with well established professional boundaries with co-workers, he can turn it around. Dude was a great actor, and it's a shame his actions have tarnished his body of work.
I always appreciate James Franco's performances. He was a great Harry Osborn and Tommy Wiseau, he had great chemistry with Seth Rogen, and I wish him the best
Seth basically sold him out to the dogs, probably to cover from his own misdeeds (no one in Hollywood is clean). He's definitely over for me. I just hope Franco can get back on the loop, I miss his roles.

The guy was triple-texting a 17-year old he’d never met who kept leaving him on read… He apparently wasn’t getting what he wanted without an ‘A’ for the semester to hand out.
So these women chose to use him to improve their status in the acting world and slept with him, but they are somehow victims? Thats absurd. They chose to sleep with him in hopes of getting famous and didn't happen. They CHOSE those actions. Ridiculous that he got canceled. He didn't rape them.
Males are so disgusting. Your messiah abusing his power and taking sexual advantage of women is immoral. Your messiah sending sexual messages to underaged girls (which he even admitted to and claimed to be “embarrassed” by) is immoral. Stop meat riding someone who doesn’t even care that you exist and hold predatory males accountable.
I kinda agree with you. It is THEIR choice. In fact it's a bit of a privilege. Men can't really sleep with powerful women to gain status, like women can do with men. However, there IS a bit of a problem when their is such a large power dynamic. A person is going to be willing to do more because of power one of them has. It creates a situation in which it's pretty much the only option for the person without power. That's not even considering potential manipulation done by the powerful individual. But yeah I am ultimately with you. They are desperate for a status change. So they used their body's and James Franco s reputation to get it. Man, I wish I could just get fucked and have my life improve.
Well there can definitely be both him being inappropriate, and some of the woman using him for opportunities. I like him but it's been an open secret in Hollywood for a while that he is very... much around..

Power dynamics. He’s a teacher and the girls were his students. These kinds of relations are frowned upon, just like boss and employee because there’s a power dynamic involved.
Rich, famous, handsome, women throwing themselves at his feet wherever he goes. Yeah obviously he's going to sleep with a lot of women, and they're gonna come out later and accuse him of abuse for clout. It would suck to be him and not being able to trust anyone.
Here's my opinion of what happened between Franco and those women. Since nobody really knows the actual truth, The logic thing would be that they thought that if they slept with him they would further their careers. Because desperation makes people do stupid things. When it didn't work out, they accused him of sexual assault. But also not as cut and dry as that I'm pretty sure there's more to it than that. Now him being the teacher he should have known better than to engage in that kind of behavior on a professional level. Now with him being a man, and they came on to him, most men would not turn beautiful women down. But that's also not so cut and dry. I'm pretty sure some of them thought they might get a relationship out of it and when that didn't work out they felt used. But with all that said nobody knows the real truth except those women and James Franco and however you want to spin it effect is both of them are probably in the wrong. Like I said, it takes two to tango.
And they thought he would make them famous and successful if they slept with him, which didn't happen. Then they see him getting more and more successful. I think it's failed actresses wanting a payout, which they got . Then everyone jumped on the bandwagon.
Eh, the metoo movement was bulls**t anyways. Everybody is guilty for even thinking about sex by those psychos eyes. I was never a fan of James Franco, because he was always too self-indulgent about every project that he was in. I don't think he should be put out of work because he took advantage of his own fame or power. I don't think he's Danny Masterson level evil.
I never knew or heard of any of the allegations and drama with him. Being “canceled” for having consensual sexual relationships with a grown ass person, then them later saying it’s because of a “power dynamic “ he had as a teacher, it’s fucking bullshit.

I remember when Christopher Reeve and Michael Caine had a kissing scene in Deathtrap back in 1982. Everyone in the cinema "cringed". So glad to see we've moved on since then! (Oh, wait... there was a gay kiss in Milk, which JoBlo found "not cringey at all!" Nice work there, JoBlo. Great to see homophobia is still alive and well in 2023).
The Interview is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. It has that blonde dude, a small part actor, whom is also in Talladega nights. That bloke, used sparingly, makes me laugh just looking at him haha!
ur out of ur mind bud if you think Judd apatow and casting directors didn't know full well that James Franco is attractive and would be striking and appealing all around.
I’m genuinely curious. I get that Franco was in a position of power over the women he slept with. I understand that he used bad judgment by choosing to sleep with them. But hear me out, is it fair to assume that he is an irredeemable evil person? What about the agency of the women? Could they not recognize, even though they were desperate, that it is bad judgment to try to use your body to get ahead in life? In my experience people will use whatever advantages they have to get what they want. Franco wanted to get laid, he used his power (knowingly or unknowingly). The women wanted to advance their careers, they used their bodies (and/or attractiveness). I’m hoping someone can help me see where the controversy lies, I’m totally confused. Why do we expect celebrities to live up to some sort of moral standard that we don’t uphold?
He should've been smart enough, mature enough and professional to not pursue relations with women "wanting to get ahead". Others were young with crushes and he took advantage. The dude messed up his career by being a skeezeball. Not every young woman he messed with was trying to advance their careers. Same for women who do the same with young men. He's old enough to have known better.
Looks like none of these women had their careers advanced by their involvement with him. Otherwise, they never might have complained about his bad behaviour, had it been worth that price for them. Telling from other comments, it wasn't much of a secret in Hollywood what he was up to and the relations were consented to - yet under the false pretense of getting the women ahead in the industry. He failed to deliver and live up to the promises he dangled in front of the women. They got upset and felt used - because he did use them, selfishly
Even if the sex was consensual, every college and university has rules against faculty dating students. It creates the misconception that student may not have earned their grade. Franco should have know better.
That may be so, but they are rules. It's not breaking the law. At best he should have been expelled from his teaching endeavors at that institution, not have his life ruined.
Thats only in the US though. Elsewhere they don't care, as they shouldn't. Look if you have the mental capacity to go to war and vote at 18, you have the mental capacity to decide who you fuck is a good idea.
Kinda disappointed by the comments section here, unsurprised most are from men :( this is why so many victims don't come forward. What's the point? As long as the perp is good at something people like, endless excuses will be made. You don't miraculously change or recover from a lifetime pattern of predatory behaviour. There's no rehabbing it. To call assaulting people a "habit" to call multiple cases of grooming minors a habit is so gross. May the men here never have the women in their life been victims to predators like James. You've got men in here praising him for being a good actor... most evil people are??? That's how they get away with it for so long? Of course Seth Rogen disowned him. THAT'S WHAT DECENT PEOPLE DO WHEN THEY FIND OUT THEIR FRIEND IS EVIL. And don't get me started on buddy in the comments here claiming the logic must be that all these women wanted money. That's YOUR logic so you don't have to feel accountable. Congratulations. You are the problem.
While some women had crushes on him, and wanted to have relations with him, and many did, that doesn't excuse his behavior for sure. Some friends had big crushes on him, until they found out about his reputation. He should've been worried about his career when he was flirting with teens.
if he had the girls' consent and if there was no minor involved, no matter how stupid his attitude was, that doesn't make him a rapist or anything like that.
The word "underrated" is being thrown around way too often but when it comes to "The Deuce" is so freaking on point! "The Deuce" is an amazing show. First I was a bit skeptical because of Franco's double role, but he pulled it off. And the rest of the cast did a great job too. Story was gripping and engaging, camera great, the script also very good.. and still no one ever watched it because the HBO execs are dumb cowards.
Or, maybe the guy really was a creep with those women? That's not to knock his movie work, but being talented doesn't mean you can't also be a creep. Or are you just channeling issues of your own with women, here?
I saw Fly Boys in history class a couple days ago and I was only able to recognize James Franco by his yelling thanks to that "magazine" scene from This Is The End
Grown women who engage in consensual sexual encounters only to turn around later and either clout chase or try to get that bag are way less believable.
It’s really stupid that he lost his career over something so dumb . He slept with consenting adults who made allegations because they didn’t make it in Hollywood
false information: Palo Alto (2013) is not directed by James Franco. It's directed by Gia Coppola who also directed Mainstream (2020) starring Andrew Garfield. but he wrote the book "Palo Alto" which the movie was based on.
he was an insane actor at his peak. I used to hope every day that they’d make a Jeff Buckley biopic and cast him even before i liked Jeff Buckley and just knew of him through his big hit.
I know he has played several roles that are too many to mention, but I am surprised that they didn’t talk about his starring role in the HBO series The Deuce where he played twins. I think it’s my favorite role I’ve seen him play.
That show would have been much better without Franco. Franco has had some good roles but he sucked in that show and the casting as twins was indulgent and hurt the show. In the short term it attracted buzz but the twins thing sucked so bad that’s why that show is forgotten by everyone except those who don’t have anything else left to watch on HBO Max
Cant wait to see James Franco as Fidel Castro that might be his career defining rule if he nails it. The guy looks like Castro as he's aged & has proven to be able to take on serious roles and I'll be the first at the theater to see it. Everyone deserves a second chance especially in cases of consensual where everyone is an adult. They settled $2 million for goodness sake they got their bag.
Unpopular opinion. If you are weak enough and excuse the term, "cheap" enough... that potential job opportunities and opportunities to get ahead create a "power Dynamic"... then you are admitting to putting your advancement ahead of your morals. I do not understand how this entitles you to later destroy someone's career? You did that stuff for YOUR career... now you mad that you sold out? wtf? Just sayin. Buy the ticket take the ride. I'm sorry you don't like what it feels like afterwards, but I mean... selling yourself for money/advancement isn't supposed to feel "Good" is it? I am NOT trying to excuse the true monsters that absolutely do exist in that industry and everywhere. Predators who FORCE themselves on others are entirely seperate from what I am talking about. I am talking about the people who claim "Power Dynamic" being the reason... admitting openly that they thought doing those things would advance their careers and thats why they did them. Yeah, thats called selling your body for a price. Its not supposed to feel good later, its a bad choice.
I really hope he can bounce back and that these incidents where in fact bad judgment in consentual situations.. I've liked him in pretty much anything I've ever seen him in and the fact that him and Seth probably won't work togheter again is a big loss in my book.. If he owns what he did and regrets it (I know hes an actor) hopefully he will be able to make up for his mistakes in some way and continue working in movies
When none of the accusations reach charges or involve police, only MSM and lawsuits, you can only assume it's money chasing. If it were true it should be about justice
I'm sorry but i don't feel as angry about him having consensual relations with students as i do someone like Weinstein forcing himself of women. These students could have said no. They need to take some responsibility as well.
It's not that they had sex with him, but he took advantage of his position to have sex with them. All as he made it seem to them, he would help them get better jobs in Hollywood, which of course he didn't.
They still need to take responsibility for doing it. They could have said no or went to a different acting school. I'm tired of these women taking no responsibility at all for their own poor decisions.@@MichaelKerr71
Ok I'm gonna get a lot of hate for this comment but I'm going to say it anyway. That "difference in power dynamics=wrong" thing has always been iffy to me and kind of ridiculous and I think we've gone a bit too far as a society. There is a vast difference between forcing someone to do something or even blackmailing them to do something versus offering them something in return for doing something. Now if James Franco had physically forced himself on these women or stated or even implied that by not engaging in sex with him they would be kicked out of his class or black listed or something obviously that would be wrong but if what he tried to do was entice them by offering something that is completely different. If we are going to start going down the road of enticement=wrong especially when there is a difference in power dynamics then theres ALOT of people and organizations that need to be held accountable. By that definition of wrong every employee of a company in America has a case against there bosses, so does every man who is dating a woman more attractive than he is who does what she wants in the hopes of getting something from her in return. Both of those scenarios are very common and both involve enticement and differences in power dynamics. What about every woman who actively seeks out a man who is more financially successful and higher status then she is? Is the man still in the wrong? Why is she deliberating putting herself in a situation where she could be enticed and thus "exploited" by our society's standard. Like I said it's ridiculous. These were grown ass women who made a choice. This whole power dynamics thing makes women sound like helpless victims with no agency.
I think, if you have a direct influence on someone’s professional success (grades, pay, performance reviews) you shouldn’t have a relationship with them. It’s an inappropriate use of your position. Gold diggers aren’t usually their target’s boss or professor so there’s a huge difference in the dynamic.
@@kaylaclark3660Why is having direct influence over someone's job or grades and having a relationship any more wrong than having a significant impact on any other aspect of a person's life an having a relationship? You can so just as much damage to a person's life and put just as much pressure on someone to behave in certain ways outside of work or school. And there 100% is an unequal power dynamic in typical relationships whether they be with gold diggers or not when men behave in certain ways and do things they may not want to do in an effort to keep the woman they are with happy. I don't see that as any less wrong than the situation with James Franco.

It´s Hollywood baby😏
He should just have consulted Charlie Sheen on what hookers are the best and his troubles with women be gone.
Exactly. Everyone knew everything and the people denouncing Franco either helped him or did the same or worse
"sexual habits" yikes... that's quite the downplay of a repeated life-long pattern of predatory behaviour against women AND minors.
Women would have to be careful around him? Is that because he was able to seduce them, or was he a legit POS?

I miss the good old days of James franko and Seth Rogan
ur out of ur mind bud if you think Judd apatow and casting directors didn't know full well that James Franco is attractive and would be striking and appealing all around.
I really don't give a shit about the 17 year old thing. 16 is legal in most countries for a reason.
Even if the sex was consensual, every college and university has rules against faculty dating students. It creates the misconception that student may not have earned their grade. Franco should have know better.
Why would you care about rules if you can have fun?

I feel like I manifested this video.I just watched the Planet of the Apes trilogy and asked this very question.
Thanks
It’s too bad he had to play an ape in the third one and his directorial debut.
James Franco: a dirt a bag.
Maybe you're a ball bag !
Very underrated movie and performance but I think he killed it in Homefront, I’ve never seen him that menacing
