    I have chronic migraines. One hit me midway through a 2-week trip in the Cusco region. My guide suggested I make myself a cup of coca tea from the available supplies in my hotel lobby. Can't say it tasted great, because it didn't (tasted the same as all other tea to me), but my migraine dissipated just as quickly and without the lingering exhaustion brought about by the sumatriptan prescribed by my doctor. I would happily drink tea every now and then if it meant my migraines cleared up that cleanly.

    • @Colouh
      @Colouh 6 месяцев назад +1

      That's called "apunamiento" in Spanish, and yes chewing or having coca tea makes it disappear. It's very common to suffer from it here in South America if you go to any elevated region, and consuming the coca leaves feels magical.

    Consuming Coca leaf is ok. It's like having coffee.
    Turning it into cocaine is like distilling beer into everclear. It's an imperfect analogy, but seriously, coca tea isn't all that addictive and it's quite nice. I don't intend to ever try cocaine. Yes, once you try coca tea, you'll realize what flavor component is still used in coca cola.

    • @Dellvmnyam
      @Dellvmnyam 9 месяцев назад +14

      @@Dellvmnyam I haven't had cocaine, but coca leaf tea was great. Whereas caffeine felt like an artificial jittery energy, coca tea felt more natural. Like I am just more awake and energetic now.

    • @shibolinemress8913
      @shibolinemress8913 9 месяцев назад +6

      I've always heard that natural coca leaves are mild, and coca tea is about like drinking coffee. The effect of chewing the leaves sounds about like that of an energy drink. Is that about right?

    • @brakejanco
      @brakejanco 8 месяцев назад

      I used to pack mambe into my gums on occasion. It's not really any more "addictive" than caffeine. It's also wayyy better than isolated cocaine hydrochloride, which is ridiculously overrated. Coca leaf is more satisfying without the compulsive redose need. In fact, cocaine addicts can successfully use coca leaf to quit cocaine use without withdrawl. There are other bioactive components in the coca leaf that likely contribute to an altered experience.
      Around that same time I knew someone who grew poppies and sold opium. Her clients were generally very addicted. The coca leaf purveyor didn't have many addicts.
      I would say the most addictive plant in the world is tobacco. There are way more cigarette smokers than there are regular cocaine users. Maybe if we didn't demonize plants like coca and made them more accessible we would have less people dying from fentanyl cut into street powder.

    • @brakejanco
      @brakejanco 8 месяцев назад

      @@shibolinemress8913It has a brighter feeling than coffee, but it also depends on the species and cultivar. I had some that was more jittery with a little bruxism. Others I had were closer to a light dose of MDMA, being entactogenic and almost verging on slightly psychedelic (pattern recognition and color perception enhancement.)
