Man, I thought the official version of The horse and the Infant had Hamilton vibes, but the original just screams it. So cool to see them side by side. Maybe, when this is all over, we can get the OG versions, like how First Burn was released later. Can’t wait for the whole story. 😘
Oh I'd LOVE to hear the original versions of the songs. Even if I understand why Jorge might not want to realese them I will say though that I prefer the current version of the horse and the infant. The old one is a bit TOO Hamilton for me.
The first draft of The horse and the Infant is SO HAMILTON (and I love that lol), the final version is definitely its own work though! It sets the tone for the musical so well.
1:52 The idea that Odysseus was just yelling in the wooden horse while the Trojans are outside is hilarious to me "Hey is Apollo trapped in that horse or something cause I'm hearing a lot of singing-"
@@feathered_turtle”Man I wonder what the Greeks will do next?” “Yeah, that would be great for us in the war.” “What’s with the wind today?” “I don’t t know.”
I like how the actual Trojan War is almost over by the time the musical begins. The adaptation is focused more on The Odyssey than The Iliad, so while it’d probably feel strange to not include anything from the Trojan War, it also would be kind of odd to spend too much time on what was essentially resolved by the time The Odyssey begins. Starting with the climax of the war also gives the audience a crazy cool setpiece to open on, which helps build momentum quick.
Weirdly enough, i always thought that having Athena's blessing essentially gave Odysseus access to quick thought as it seems like he uses it as well at times early on, but lost it after they split apart in "My Goodbye". Which in turn would be sick if Telemachus is seen using it later as well, as he and Athena are friends.
I really hope that one day, probably long after the whole album is revealed, you make a bonus album of all these scrapped songs. Like this is the first time I've heard any snippet of Ismarus and DAMN does it go hard!
Every time I hear the introduction to the first song of the Troy Saga, I feel pumped to listen to the entire musical (I listen to a video that includes all the recordings of what's available so far as well as the first two saga recordings)! It would be incredible to witness this as a Broadway musical. To be sitting in the dark of a theater and hearing that instrumental introduction, it would be such a thrill! Also, I love the interpretation of Athena being present in the beginning. I was never sure what to make of ticking sound at that moment but that makes a lot of sense!
Coming here after the re-releases, and noticing that Jorge did not change the clock ticking, even though there were other changes (like the chorus behind Athena in WoTM). So he must have thought about it and decided he liked it in.
My friend, i LOVE the early ticking sound.❤ I always read that as literally Odysseus strategising- that's his sound! You can tell the difference later on, because Athena's Quick thought sound is faster. This ticking is slow, normal pace, showing the step by step, logical calculating mind of Odysseus. I thought it was a masterful detail, but even if that was not the original intent, I still think of it as a great way to start epic. (Also, thematically, it matches super well with the action of the first song- THIS is the hour the plan is being made by the men inaide the horse) 🤗 I can't tell you what your work means to me, THANK YOU for Epic
I'm SO IMPRESSED as a writer by all the revisions you've done. I know VERY WELL how AGONIZING revision can be even if you logically know that a different version/a LOT MORE WORK could make a POTENTIALLY stronger version - it takes some real self-honesty and experience to do what you've done even WITHOUT Epic The Musical literally being the BEST musical I've ever listened to (and I went to see Hamilton on Broadway BEFORE it became popular).
Na everyone to drunk to hear them in the horse is what I'm getting from this which is funny because they might think they are hearing things and then BAM they weren't and they regret drinking that night.
In "Horse and the Infant" there's the repeating line of "what do you live for, what do you try for, what do you wish for, what do you fight for" and I am *so* hoping that gets sampled in another track somehow, because if there isn't a spin of "what will you die for," I'm gonna cry (/light-hearted)
With Thunder bringer coming up, being the first saga of the second act and it being the last one to feature any of the crew I think, I think if it would come back at any point, it’s then
Something that I think is really cool is the fact that the original melody Polyphemus sings in the draft is the same as the siren’s melody during part of suffering, cause they both are monsters talking about hiding from a god
The way I interpreted the clock at the beginning was that time is going by and every second they spend fighting this 10 war is another second Odysseus is counting that he's been away from Ithaca, especially since at the end of Calypso's first song clip that we have, there's also a ticking clock sound and he gets stuck there for 8 years.
I feel like the first drafts of the 1 and 2 saga where very complex/wordy. The current versions are more catchy and easy to remember. ^^ Love everything I heard so far and hope you don´t change to much of the newer songs.
For me the idea of the troyans not hearing Odysseus in the horse is just suspension of disbelief. Like in any musical, you know the characters are not really dancing and singing, is more of an artistic liberty
The only thing I find a bit weird is why we get the first "Athena!" in Warrior of the mind, I feel like it unnecesarily spoils it and it kinda ruins the hype for the "You are Athena, baddass in the arena" moment, which still is so good but feels weird since you already know it's Athena.
Please, please, please, please, please!!!!!!!! Release Ismarus as just a "Cut Songs" playlist. I love Saga 1 and 2 but that song captured me in the 3 seconds you played so hard. That's my genre, my favorite style and you killed it. I will literally pay for it if you could release it.
Why they don't hear them? Because a musical does not tell the story how it happens but how it feels: they are whispering in reality but for them and us it feels like a war chant of encouragement.
I have a question. Is there a full version of the unreleased songs of epic? And if they are, have you considered releasing them as some kind of spin off of the musical?
My kids introduced this to me last week. I have to say that so far it is fantastic I can't wait to hear more, I've listened to it three times this week in the wee hours when I couldn't sleep because of pain issues, and I have to say this was able to draw my mind away from my physical issues long enough for me to be able to wind down to sleep. Thank you sir. I don't want to wait to see what you do next with this and beyond. You and the cast do an amazing job. My two youngest (28 and 16) were singing along in the car (I'll admit I was too for what little I could remember the lyrics as I just recently started listening) you and your cast have the ability to bring so much emotion through your performances.
I love the ticking in the opening of the musical. As I've been listening to everything and catching up on all the behind the scenes, the realization that the clock is tied to Athena made me go "OH! It's at the start because she's right there with them, silent but present." Love love love

Maybe the issue that they should be heard by the Trojans could be explained away by suggesting that they are using some sort of sign language to communicate and we are just hearing a translation of that. At least that's what I always thought.
