Hi everyone! Here's a string of pearls and string of dolphins caretips video. All about how to pick a healthy pot when purchasing, to how and when to water them. I hope it helps and have a wonderful day plant buddies! 💚
Glad you found the video helpful. I know many struggle with string of pearls at 1st so I made sure to really try to be as clear and detailed about watering and when to, as possible. Thanks so much for stopping by and watching 💚
I really appreciate this video. I recently acquired my first string of pearls and string of dolphins. The string of dolphins I rescued from a certain death on a clearance shelf. The String of Dolphins is looking pretty rough. I let it hang on a shelf near a window that gets morning sun. I gently, but not thoroughly, watered it a couple of days ago. It is still looking rough. After watching your video, my new plan it to repot and cut it back. If I am careful it should bounce back. I can propagate the strings to make the pot fuller. The String of Pearls recently arrived in the mail. I've had them for a week. Currently they are sitting near the same window. After watching your video I think I should repot them and give them room to roam. Then I can wrap the strings within the pot to create a fuller display. I feel so much more confident now. Since you say the String of Pearls performs best in a cooler, bright light, I am going to move it to my bathroom. It will still get bright indirect light and be in the coolest room in the house. Thanks again.
Yay, you have both string of pearls and dolphins! Wherever you place them indoors, just make sure they do get a lot of airflow. Also, after repotting, don't water right away, not even a little. Let them be for about a week. They will look a bit sad and wrinkled, but as long as they are healthy, they will bounce right back when you start to water again. Thank you so much for your wonderful comment and good luck with your new babies! In episode #69 here on my channel, I have a pot of string pearls example when it's ready to be watered. It will help a lot to see a full visual example of when they are ready to be watered and avoid rot. 💚
Thank you. I wasn’t good at string of pearls in the beginning too. But then in time I learned how to read the signs of when they needed attention or just be left alone. They just really don’t seem to like it when it gets too hot. But they are actually quite easy to care for. Thank you so much for stopping by and watching. 😊
@@hana2570 I would absolutely love that thank you! Would you like anything from my small collection? Please send me a message Instagram These Succulent Buddies. Maybe we can do a swap. 😊
So beautiful video, learning so much from the succulents buddies ( mother and daughter ) I enjoyed watching every video,,,, thank you 🙏 so much ♥️ Jonah
Aww... I'm sure they will do better in no time when you get the hang of it and with the proper care tips I shared in the video. It might take a while for them to recover, but you will be able to observe them better now. Little tip, aside from the pearls wrinkling up when thirsty, they also lose their shine and get a bit dull in color when they need water. Just make sure the stems are healthy and no drying or mushy. 😊
Ive never really tried these string babies. They look beautiful on those pots. Im also doing vlogs on succulent care but im just starting. Im learning a lot from your videos
You should try caring for them if you find them. They grow pretty quickly in the right conditions and proper care. Good luck on your channel and thank you so much for stopping by. Let's keep growing! 💚
Thank you! This was so helpful. I just got a donkey tail and string of pearls and I’m afraid to overwater. I haven’t had the best luck with succulents 😅
I didn't realize they were rare there. 😯 If you ever find one, you should definitely try em out. Not as big as your beautiful alocasia albo, but it's cute. 😁
You're very welcome! It took me a while to really understand them, but once you learn to watch for the signs I mentioned in the video for when to water n keep them in a bright cool area, they are actually easy to care for. 😊💚
VSOH have about the same caretips but like more water than SOP. I made a caretips video on string of hearts in episode #49 if you want to check it out. 😊
I use a potting mix called Sunshine shine mix Aggregate Plus #4. It contains soil, peat, bark, and perlite. It does come pre mixed so I can't give exact ratios. Do you grow your SOP indoors or outdoors?
Ok, so one thing to remember for SOP grown outdoors, senecios which SOP fall under are summer dormant. They grow better in cooler months but not freezing. I would say they grow best between 70-80 degrees fahrenheit. Any hotter than that, they go to sleep and slow growth mode so they wouldn't need much water then. Too much water at that point could actually cause them to rot. They also don't tolerate frost. For me, they are best grown by a window that gets morning sunlight, and indirect afternoon sun. Try bringing them indoors. Only water when the pearls are wrinkled and look more tear drop shaped. Start by just watering enough to wet the roots. As it grows, you can water more each time they need to be watered until eventually they need a full soak each time. My SOP indoors are only watered once a month. Hope that helps. 😊
Hi I need you assistance in regards to string of pearls and dolphins, my strong of pearls are almost finished just very little left and dolphins are not growing well. Would need some help in regards to them my strong of dolphins are potter in a rice husk so was my pearls which I changed to are of cactus mix.... Please advise.. I live in a humid an hot climate in summer temp is between 35 to 40 degrees.. The plant are in places in a balcony in a shaded area..... Pls advise thanks
Mam what is the soil mix you are using for SOP? Actually i have ordered few plants if u can tell me the soil mix it will b really helpful as m a beginner in succulent. Soil mix for sedum tornado, carsulla ovata, and string of pearls. Thank u
Soil mix ko is pre mixed I buy called Sunshine Mix Aggregate Plus #4. Pero if you have to mix yourself, just mix 1:1:1 ratio of regular potting mix, or loam soil with pumice or perlite and coco coir. 😊
Is it possible to propogate individual pearls ? I bought string of pearls online 3 days back. They are not much in quantity. I should say it covers almost 1/4th pot. Almost all the pearls are nice and plump but everyday some pearls burst although till this day I haven't watered it. What might be the reason?
Some say it's possible to prop from one pearl, but it's rare. Whenever some pearls accidentally pop off mine, I put it back in the pot and it just shrivels up. You say some pop... do you mean they are starting to shrivel? Because if so, if the pearls are looking a bit dull and not shiny, then some looking more oval than round, and are shriveling up, it maybe time to give a small drink of water. If the soil is completely dry, you can give it enough water just to wet the roots, not a full soak. Overtime, you should start to see new growth. Also, maybe watch episode #69 on the channel, I show a pot pearls there when they are absolutely ready to be watered. Here's the link, it should help. 😊 ruclips.net/video/WP1kfNLfc9Y/видео.html
@@TheseSucculentBuddies Thanks for the quick response. I have already watched episode 69. What I mean to say was that the pearls of my plant look hydrated and plump. But my concern is that everyday 3-4 pearls burst like they do when it is over watered, although I have not watered the plant after receiving it online. I am waiting for the plant to show some sign that it is thirsty. Only then I will spray water it.
Oh ok, then yes, you are doing the right thing not watering. Was it sent planted in soil still? It was probably over watered already before you got it and possibly still had some moisture left in the soil. It should be fine as long as the stems are still healthy and not turning to mush.
@@TheseSucculentBuddies You got it right. I got it planted in the soil. Yeah, may be that it contained moisture while being packed. May be that's the case. Wish I could grow it as you do. Thanks a lot.
They are actually very easy to care for once you know how to read them properly when it comes to watering. Don't worry, in the coming weeks, I'll have a video fully dedicated to how to care for string of pearls and go into more detail. 😊
String of pearls and dolphins are so cute I'm growing string of pearls too, but I'm not good at growing it. I learned well by watching the video. Korea dies well because it transplants succulents too quickly. Me too.😅😅😅👍🌵
I'm glad the video helped. 😊 It took me a few years before I really learned how to care for them properly. But once you master how they look and when they need water, they are very easy to grow and really do well inside the house with grow lights or morning sun. 💚

@@sodamomtv4231 just keep trying. Your space is perfect for it. If you have grow lights, they are much easier to take care of and grow faster too. Just dont water all the time like your echeverias. 😊

Great care tips, Christine! I agree with you that SOD are way easier to care for. I’m now trying to make sure my SOT will grow as I just repotted them after purchasing haha.
