COVID-19 and CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTS
The Association of Ethiopian Architects (AEA) in collaboration The Urban Center of Kebet Eske Ketema (KEK) organized an online discussion under the title 'COVID-19 and CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTS' to understand how Construction contracts View the Cornoa Pandemic.
Ever since the Covid - 19 Pandemic and the official announcement of the First Corona virus positive case in Ethiopia, the question of how contracts will be handled in the construction industry has become one of the major discussion topics in the industry and beyond .
Questions like:
How will it affect workers, consultants & contractors?
Can the pandemic be considered as a FORCE MAJEURE in the construction sector?
What are the legal frameworks to be considered?
What preparations should be made to avoid the damage?
It also referred to commonly used terms of contract in PPA * (2011), MOWUD (1994) & FIDIC and studying and how such challenging events are understood in their definition.
Considering the above mentioned points and address the ongoing questions coming from the industry, the discussion was conducted with representatives of the Industry to understand the major challenges and possible solutions.
The discussion was held on the 25th of April, 2020.
