    Hi Tramma40,
    Sorry for the delay. Depending on the extent of the procedure, your ability to heal, and the skill of your dentist, you can experience pain from almost nothing to several days. How is it now? Dr. Ramsey Amin

    You mention that you have a 99% + success rate on your procedures. What implant system do you generally use to acheive these results? And are there any implant systems you would avoid using in your experience?

    Could you please address which diet is best for bones to heal faster, without having to eat any animal products?

      TodaysRealHealth Just eat healthy!!!!!
      You may eat and drink. If you have had a routine extraction or implant surgery, it is important that you eat solid food as comfort will allow, although you should avoid sharp crunchy foods for several days. Soft foods such as pasta, sushi, boiled chicken, potatoes and flaky fish are excellent choices

    Dr Amin, my wife had all of her teeth replaced with implants. The dental team told her one-two days and she would not have pain. Five days later and it hasn't gotten any better, regarding the pain. That was such a big part of selling her on the procedure was how quickly you recover. Is this normal? Five days with no sign of the pain subsiding?

    • @RamseyAmin
      @RamseyAmin  7 лет назад +3

      That is not realistic for FULL MOUTH implants. Expect 7-14 days of moderate discomfort. Technique and her ability to heal will determine.

    I had an implant on my left front teeth a week ago and I accidentally bite it and I heard a little cracking sound coming from the jaw bone. Should I be worried about it? It is pulsating a bit and becomes swollen but no pain after a day. Would I end up having bone graft instead or will it heal by itself. What are the possibilities that could happen? Many thanks in advance!

    Can someone tell how to take care of it and what foods to avoid ? I know I have to rinse with the prescribed rinse and not to eat spicy or crunchy food... I think I'm missing something

    • @RamseyAmin
      @RamseyAmin  10 лет назад +2

      MORENADOLL basic instructions after surgery (sorry for the late reply!!)
      1. Apply an ICE pack to the outside of the face over the surgical site to reduce swelling (normal after an oral surgery procedure). Leave the ice pack on for 20 minutes EACH hour until bedtime regardless of the lack of surgical swelling or pain. This procedure should be repeated up to 24 hours to help reduce swelling, pain, and bleeding. Frozen vegetables work very well as ice bags. This is extremely important.
      2. Keep your HEAD ELEVATED when resting and sleeping for the first day. This will reduce both bleeding and swelling and is extremely important.
      3. Bite with firm, steady pressure on the gauze given to you by the office for 30 - 60 minutes. Dampen with water then bite for 30 continuous minutes. Replace if necessary for the first few hours after surgery. Bleeding following surgery is normal. If profuse bleeding occurs after three or four hours, elevate your head and bite with firm, steady pressure on damp gauze or a moist tea bag (must be caffeinated) for 30 minutes. If this does not slow down the bleeding, call the office. Take all medications prescribed by this office.
      4. STARTING TOMORROW GENTLY rinse your mouth with warm salt water three times a day each time for 30 seconds. Do not rinse on the day of surgery. Dissolve one-half teaspoon in an 8-ounce glass of warm water. If you have been prescribed a special dental rinse (chlorhexidine), use this instead of salt water for seven days. Continue this three times per day for one week, as this is important for normal healing.
      5. DO NOT USE A STRAW - Sucking may cause loss of blood clot, or opening of the sinus.
      6. You may eat and drink. If you have had a routine extraction or implant surgery, it is important that you eat solid food as comfort will allow, although you should avoid sharp crunchy foods for several days. Soft foods such as pasta, boiled chicken, flaky fish are excellent choices.
      7. DO NOT SMOKE or DRINK ALCOHOL - Smoking and alcohol will slow your healing, and greatly increases the risk of a dry socket, implant or bone graft failure.
      8. Normal tooth brushing is permitted, but skip the day of surgery- be gentle in the surgical area.
      9. If you are concerned about any event or symptom following your surgery, please call promptly.

    Hi Dr Ramsey Amin I have been wearing dentures for 25 years. My dentist told me that i have a condition called combination syndrome. He said I need to have implants put in to help this condition. He said I need a ridge expansion and he wants to put in six implants on the upper. I'm afraid of the pain involved. How much pain will I be in, and how soon can I return to work?
    Thanks
    Ana

      Cost is variable depending on your particular situation. How much bone you have and whether or not you
      need bone grafting will cause the biggest variation in cost. It also depends on the skill, training, and
      judgment of your implant dentist. I suggest you find somebody very good to do this procedure so that it can go
      smoothly and last as long as possible.

      I do not have a basis for comparison in the United States. I also do not know the magnitude of treatment that you need. I also do not know the skill, experience and training of your dental implant surgeon. These are all very important things.

    Do you reccommend always using a cat scan?

    • @RamseyAmin
      @RamseyAmin  9 лет назад +3

      +Soandrae Irving as of 2015 using a 3-D scan is highly suggested. I have been using scan technology since 2001. By using a scan you can easily tell how much bone you have and how dense that bone is. There is so much information to be gleaned from a 3-D scan.

    i just got one implant put in yesterday now when i feel with my tongue it feels like a metal string on my gum is that normal ? can i chew on that side of the mouth?

    • @RamseyAmin
      @RamseyAmin  8 лет назад

      +brs “Brsrafal” rafal you should not chew on the implant until the entire healing process is complete. That usually averages 3-6 months. If you chew on implant too early it has a high chance of failing especially on the upper jaw

    Hello Dr. Amin. I've had gorgeous, healthy teeth my whole life until I began peri-menopause. My doctor prescribed "menest" as an HRT for 8 years. During this time my once lovely teeth turned into dark, chalky, decayingugliness.this destroyed my once healthy self esteem and ruined my appearance. After 2 more years of root canals, bridges and TONS of money, it was determined I should seriously consider wearing dentures. Implants are NOT an option because I'm allergic to titanium. Thus, after months of research I determined that the best way to prevent great bone loss from full-mouth extractions, I should request bone grafting immediately after each tooth extraction. I have only 10 teeth left to remove - all in the upper and lower front of my mouth. All of the back teeth have been removed but were NOT bone grafted. Thus, the backs of my jaws have been shrinking during the 4-6 months since those extractions. The front of my jaws still have those 10 teeth so the front jaws aren't shrinking . . . yet. Problem: I have already paid the total cost for upper snd lower dentures, plus the cost of extractions. My dentist isn't familiar with bone grafting following extractions. AND - I learned about the bone gr

      +Blessings 2You your comments was cut off so I never knew how to answer this question,,, sounds like you have a pretty major situation. I'm hoping you had a 3-D scan prior to extraction or at least along the way to determine your bone volume. You should consider something like a Prettau dental implant bridge

    how long do gum stiches take to heal completely doctor? i want to know when i can smoke cigarettes and not face a big risk of infection. please tell me :) . (plus what can i do to speed up the stiches healing the gum tissue) thank you :D

    • @RamseyAmin
      @RamseyAmin  9 лет назад

      JoeySkate24 some sutures dissolve and some do not. It depends on what you're dentist used. A major bone graft or dental implant procedure is usually done with a synthetic type of suture that takes 3-4 weeks to dissolve or a non-dissolvable suture is used. If it was a really basic extraction, your dentist may have used chromic gut sutures in those dissolve in about 7 days on average.
      Smoking cigarettes will increase your risk of dental implant failure. The first month after surgical insertion of the implant is the most critical. We consider heavy smoking to be 10 cigarettes or more a day. Smokers tend to have bone loss and recession around the dental implants after a few years.
      Your best bet would be to quit altogether...;-)

      ok thank you so much !!! last question doctor! is it normal for the teeth that are next to the implant to hurt ? does it mean that the screw went a bit inside in the wrong direction or is it because of the swelling that occurs in the beggining? maybe the bone reshaping itself?
