    I'm getting my bone graft on Wednesday, which is 9 days until school pictures, so hopefully everything goes as well as possible and I'm not still bruised/swollen. I'm really nervous but this video helped with some of my questions.

    Yes. But you need a thorough evaluation to see if it is possible and predictable to do so.

    Dr Amin; thank you for the excellent presentation. I have to have tretment to replace bone loss under two of my teeth ( lower left quad after my canine). It's down right scary when you don't have a clue as to (1) what is it and (2) how does that work. This was a fantastic presentation. The video was certainly helpful. Thank you.

    Actually the longer you wait the more it will shrink, not expand. I would suggest getting it done sooner rather than later.

    Hello Dr. Ramsey....very good video this was. I am considering doing an implant on one of my upper front teeth which has been missing for over 10 years now. I was told the first thing is a good bone graft. I was hoping you could help me get a good answer on the following. How long before I get better (ie. no pain or discomfort at all) and be able to return to work. I work in a very fast environment where mental acuity is a MUST and I talk to a lot of people. So I can't be in any type of pain or even a slight discomfort in my mouth. Some dentist tell me 2 - 4 days but I am having hard time trusting that given the nature of the procedure. I would really appreciate if you could PLEASE give me your honest opinion. I am not referring to the bone integration time, rather the time it takes for all pain and related symptoms to completely go away. Thank you.

    Monday August 4th, just had 9 bottom teeth pulled and 2 grafts on the lower canines. I have no idea of materials used he did mention he put a membrane over my left canine. Was the membrane to replace the gum? Also (bad news here) I am a smoker. I am on day 3 and I have to have a cigarette every day. Anyway, I put my bottom teeth in smoke gently, remove teeth and rinse with medical mouthwash. Do you think this will be okay? I only do this about twice a day. I only put the lowers in to eat (as instructed) and smoke. They also put two implants into the canines then they will remove the membrane and when healed put in the post. Does this all sound right to you? Any tips for smokers would be appreciated. I know we must quit but then there is reality, I've tried. Love your VIDEOS and your wisdom, I find your v blog insightful and helpful. Please see if you can answer my questions please I realize this video is from 2010. Any help would be Appreciated. thank you

    Doc, thank you very much. You're amazing!!! I went to see a dentist today to see if I can get the implants on the bottom jaw with missing teeth on each side... by the way, the fronts are fine and healthy. One one side I have 6.5 mm and the other 9.1 mm from the nerve, I hope you know what he means. Apparently not enough so he said that we need to grow the bone. In your opinion, how long is the down time, healing time and should I do both sides at once to get it over with? What is the success rate and can a patient do anything to ensure the successful bone growth? A million thanks :)))

    • @RamseyAmin
      @RamseyAmin  9 лет назад

      deestanisic it sounds like you have quite a bit of bone loss. Ideally he want to have 10 mm of bone from the top of the bone to the top of the nerve. This will give you a 2 mm safety zone to place a minimum length 8 mm long implant if it is going to be a free standing dental implant. Ideally the diameter can be increased to approximately 4 mm or greater to make up for the short length.
      Is very common to do bone grafts on both sides at the same time. The lower jaw can be tricky to build bone vertically and add bone from 6.5 mm back to 10 mm. What is the method that will be used to rebuild your bone? I'm not asking about what kind of bone will be used but rather what technique is planned?

    • @deestanisic
      @deestanisic 9 лет назад

      Ramsey Amin Doc, thank you very much for your response. I am not sure but he mentioned something like making the cut, feeling in with something covering with membrane and closing it up. Does it sound right? Yes, he did say that he wants 10mm minimum.

    Aloha Dr. Ramsey and thank you for posting your videos. My question is about dental implants. Is it better, for me, to have the implant placed right after a tooth is extracted or should I wait for the hole to heal before I get an implant?

    • @RamseyAmin
      @RamseyAmin  10 лет назад +3

      Each situation is different. For some areas a same-day dental implant is the right answer while in other situations, staging each step separately may be the best option. A thorough analysis by a skilled implant dentist will help you decide which is best.

    Does the type of grafting matter and do you alter it for each patient?
    I had #5 & #12 grafted and then the implants were placed 3 months later.
    After the crowns were placed, I had 3 months of chewing and then #5 bone graft FAILED.
    I went to a seminar that gave afforded all of us free x-rays. That showed that the other graft is also showing "bone loss", which is another failure. Why is the bone grafting being either reabsorbed, or just gone?
    I was never told there is a failure rate with bone grafting. I was told that would make it absolutely work out perfectlty.
    I am out $13,000.00 and 2 teeth, and don't remind me of the pain, and eating soup and yogurt for 9 months.
    Nobody stands behind their work I am noticing.

    • @RamseyAmin
      @RamseyAmin  10 лет назад +2

      Rootsgal YES, the type of graft material matters. But what matters most is the skill, training, judgement and experience of your dental implant specialist. I teach other dentists these procedures so I see first hand the wide variety of skill levels and experience
      Failure at 3 months is likely due to another reason. Unfortunately no one in medicine or dentistry can guarantee a body part or procedure. They can give you an idea of prognosis though.
      I am so sorry to hear about your situation. A really good dental office will often replace them for you at no charge and stand behind what they do.

    • @Rootsgal
      @Rootsgal 10 лет назад

      I am angry that he never said that it could possibly fail. The whole office is rude to me now, and said; "it only happened to you!" I went to a dental implant seminar through another office that does it all under the same roof. I wish I found him earlier. He gave me a free consult and x-ray and said the other implant is showing "bone loss" too. He sent all that to my periodontist, and now the are angry about that. Second opinions are not uncommon, so its purely his ego. I have been given no assurance that he is going to "make me whole". I am worse off then when I came in. Good for you for being ethical. Its a dying breed~
      Thanks for your time to my question!

      I think he is going to. I got a second opinion and that surgeon, emailed him an x-ray he took, showing bone loss in the other implant. This is the first "failure" he has ever had, and he is not handling it well.
      Anyway, thank you for your time, and have a wonderful Thanksgiving~

    i had my upper premolars extracted because i had my braces in the philippines. i moved here in usa and had to take my braces off even if it wasn't finished yet. after a year and my cuspid and lateral incisor shifted to the left and i had a gap between my front tooth and lateral incisor which gave me a slight bone loss. i have to have a bone graft to fill in that gap before i get braces again. how long should i wait after the bone graft to get my braces again? it'll be granulated cow bone.

    I was told today I have approx 3 months before my four lower front teeth fall out. I have bad recession,my dental hygiene is good with no gum disease, the recession has led to huge bone diminishment. It seems I have about a mm left to hold the teeth in - I'm really scared and listening to you, I have the most problematic situation, depth of bone has gone, there is no gum, the teeth are already lose - is there any possibility of doing anything BEFORE the teeth go?

    I recently had an accident that knocked out 5 of my front top teeth and crushed all the bone that carries them. My oral surgeon wants me to have a hip bone graft because he says it's the best, but I'm terrified of the chronic pain I've read about at the donor site. Is Infuse bmp an option for a bone needed that large. Would I be able to wear dentures with the Infuse bmp while bone is formed?

    I had a bone graft on my front tooth because of a fail implant, since i didn't let my missing tooth socket heal and took the implant surgery right away. I was told to come back within 4-5 months to try the implant again but I never did. It's been already a 1 year I haven't gone back, I heard if I don't go back within 4 to 5 months, the bone grafting will expand and mess up my jaw, is this true? Today my jaw just started to hurt on the left side, not sure if its the cause of the bone grafting.

    Can a bone graph shift to the side of the gum line? I had an upper right bone graph done last week. Now a stick came out and yesterday I was told some membrane is exposed. Today it feels like the graph shifted to the right side of my gum line. Can this happen? I am suppose to get my stiches out Oct.3rd

    Thank you Dr. Ramsey.
    I underwent left upper bicuspid area bone graft the end of April . It failed, with lg. amt. of bone exposed/necrotic bone removed 6/22. Nightmare w/actual hospitalization 4 days & IV antibxs & PICC line x 1 mo.
    1 wk ago, had implants & repeat bone graft placed, minimal swelling but so much pain, more "nerve pain" as that area numb since Apr.
    I am quite frightened,I am an ER RN & have missed 3 mo's of work.
    Am I going to be ok ever again?
    My best & again, thank you ~

      If the gum tissue is covering over the bone completely that is a good sign that things will go well. Hopefully your numbness has subsided. I'm guessing you had surgery on the lower jaw.

    I've just had a 2nd "socket graft" on tooth #4 due to a failed apicoectomy and subsequent extraction of tooth #4 that was infected for several years without me knowing it. The access hole (in my jaw) that the first dentist made left the roots of tooth #5 exposed (not the tip of the root) and he did not close this hole with bone material, allowing a lesion to fester for years, eating away at bone tissue. The first bone graft became infected twice and was replaced about a week ago. During his second procedure, the 2nd dentist noticed bone loss (and infection) between the roots of tooth #5 and wanted to extract it out on the spot. (I paid ANOTHER dentist to pulp test this tooth which reported vitality) He said that he didn't think the 2nd bone graft would work either because of this. I disapproved so he cleaned out the infection and put some antibiotic paste in the area between the roots and it is now day 6 and its healing well. What are your thoughts on his evaluation? It seems to me he should have taken out all of the infection the first time. Also, he wants me to pay for the second bone graft now too. I've always thought that if a rendered service fails, the physician makes good on it. That being the reason one doesn't go to someone else to fix the problem.

    I got upper jaw advancement about 4 weeks ago and had to get bone grafts near my cheek area. Its not unbearably bad, its just a sort of discomfort and I was wondering if I should be concerned about it?

Although I don't have any surface feeling on my lower lip and chin. They are constantly hurting. My next appointment is Dec 2nd. But I can feel movement where the BMP is. I think I need to find a new Dr. I have been going to UF SHANDS of Jacksonville. I'm so tired of hurting... Do you have any recommendations for me ?

    Hi, I had a bone graft, and it would seem that the doctor put way too much. I had trauma from a foreign object which they had to remove, and i opted for the bone graft to restore the area from damage i had done trying to remove it. The doc dismissed me as a patient after several emails asking him to remove it. How can I get someone to remove it? It is causing terrible bruxism.

      Elena Timofte thank you for your kind words. There are many other excellent dentists in the world also that can help you in your area. It sounds like you had a whole lot of dental work all done at once. This is okay as long as it is managed properly with typically intravenous steroids to help reduce inflammation in addition to oral medications given before dental work such as ibuprofen. It is not uncommon for me to work on 15-28 teeth at one visit, including surgery, bone grafts etc.... And I can honestly tell you that most of the time, 95% of my patients will take ibuprofen or Tylenol after the procedure and does not have any need for a stronger pain medication such as Vicodin, Norco or other narcotics. I don't have any great answers for you without seeing you --- I feel badly that you have has such a negative experience

    8 days ago i had a surgical extraction and bone graph on my number 12(no implant discussed) doc said stitches would dissolve in about 5 days.in "about 5 days" the stiches did fallout/disappear and it appears the gum has retracted a little and expossed white material.it was a particulate graph,all 4 walls were ok. material hasnt been coming out and the gums appear to be healing over the hole more every day.im on day 9 since the procedure. i was wondering if this is kiind of normal and if the gum will over the bone material eventually? or would you anesthetize and restitch the gums? i have no gum loss,gum issues or any other major medical conditions.thank you for you time
