The worst thing about this movie is the lack of a third.
Yeah, Mike Mignola didn't like the direction Guillermo del Toro was taking with the character. He wanted it to be more close to his graphic novels.
Agreed
@@ComicPhreak I don't think Mingola was the major issue for not getting a part 3 was more to do with this film not doing well financially given its overall cost.
@@donovanbradford8231 That's almost always the case. "Flash Gordon" made quite a bit of money over the cost of the film but it wasn't as much as Star Wars made so we never got a second film.
The budget del toro wanted was too expensive thats why the 3rd never got made
"So what happened on the last [insert film or episode]"
"No idea"
- Every time... 🤣
One day the answer is going to be:
"Who are you and what am I doing in this place?"
@@invrunner One day the answer is gonna be a 10 minute dissertation that is not only comprehensive and accurate, but will bring the audience to tears with its poetic presentation and deep exploration of profound universal themes.
The best part of this this movie is the troll market sequence, it’s like a mix between Lord of the Rings and the Cantina scene from Star Wars
Facts!
Fun fact: the actor (Luke goss) who plays the villain in Hellboy two was also the villain in blade two. And Ron Pearlman was also in both movies.
Also Karel Roden:
• Grigori Rasputin (Hellboy I)
• Karel Kounen (vampire lawyer/Blade II)
And both done by Del Toro
He was also in an 80s UK pop group called Bros (pronounced Bross, Like Boss with an r in there)
Good to know.
True. :)
He is the son of the fallen one. Basically the son of Lucifer/Devil, the King of Hell which makes Hellboy a prince.
Isn't he also related to King Arthur?
Yes
Son of Azzael
@@pennywisethedancingclown2246 But his mother is the daughter of King Arthur, right?
@@Ironmew05 Not exactly "daughter"; more like great-great-great (add as necessary) granddaughter. Her name was Sarah Huges and she was a witch consort of Azzael, duque of Hell. Hellboy was born from her soul in Hell, after Azzael claimed her in her deathbed in 1617.
Prince Nuada is one of my favorite movie villains.
This was a really good follow-up to the original and it's a shame that we never got a part 3 with little Hellboy kids running around.
To be fair this is a good send off for the scene.
@@jonathancunningham8739 it's definitely a good ending but it just makes no sense to give us the reboot instead of a third film.
The young Hellboy is actually an adult, ballet dancer, or something to that effect, female very petite. She’s put under a lot of heavy make up.
She is a makeup artist, but not a ballet dancer. She won an Academy Award for Makeup in Pan’s Labyrinth.
@@courtneyhuntington5262 thank you, I knew it was something. I assumed ballet dancer because of body movement and stuff like that.
“I’m not a baby. I’m Kuato.”
Start the reactor.
@@michaelfitzgerald38 Open your mind.
Krauss is voiced by Seth McFarlane. It still amazes me every time I watch this.
I was wondering about that-when l looked up “Hellboy Two”,two actors were mentioned who apparently played Krauss, but there was no mention of Seth MacFarlane.
I love the audience applause every time the kiddo enters the room. It's freaking hilarious!
It’s obviously scripted now tho. It was fun. And cute. Now it’s weird.
This movie is essentially "Pan's Labrynth 2: Golden Army Boogaloo".
Prince (after being a boss) - let me show you, .... why you feared the...... DAWG!!! lol
The meme, if prince Nuada had succeeded: "Can I fear that Dawg? XD"
Mrs Movies is honest and doesn't pander to us, unlike some other reactors.
Red did get Meyers transferred to Antarctica to monitor the Abominable Snowman. But it wasn't out of jealousy. He was shown that Meyers wouldn't survive their next mission. So he "ice boxed" him to save his life. They soon reunite when he calls Red for backup. Then Meyers returns with him and rejoins the team.
I’m glad to hear that.
Is that in the comics?
@@jakobnunez4964 It's a cool plot device. Each character gets their own story in a separate location. Then those merge together for an EPIC ending.
Another fun fact: the actor doing a cameo at 6:40 is spanyard Santiago Segura (who also did a cameo at the first movie as the subway driver), friend of Guillermo del Toro. He's mostly known for his participation in many Alex de la Iglesia movies and for the ones he wrote, directed and acted as the crooked and disgusting cop "Torrente".
My favorite one of all the hellboy movies, can't wait!
Wow, did the Mrs. wake up on the wrong side of the bed prior to filming this? Class A snark.
Mr Movies was a little odd as well maybe they just had a busy day before watching the film?
You kept saying he was made of smoke, but I’ve always seen it as just his whole soul or ghost like form
BEST cold open of this whole channel so far. the timing, the escalation, wholesome ending.
One of the greatest comic book films of all time! Guillermo Del Toro delivered with both of these installments. I hope you guys eventually react to Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio, The Devil's Backbone, Cronos, Mimic, Blade 2 and Crimson Peak and his Anthology series Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities (Which is worth checking out for sure, hope he comes out with Season 2). He is a creative genius!
Quite true.
I will never forget seeing the trailer for this film and sitting upright and staring at the screen with a open mouth...
I thought it was a Elric of Melnibone film.
A shame that IP is lost in limbo
I'm kind of glad it is. While I'd (in theory) love an Elric series, I have a hard time believing anyone could do it justice.
@@jwhite-1471 Yeah, it's was like the John Carter of mars movie. It hit all the right notes, but lost all the magic being made into a film. And that didn't have the issues of incest, murder and dark gods to try and make sense in a visual medium.
@@shaderax_storm6165 The Elden Ring DLC is as close as it gets.
There are some faeries and other mythical/folklorish creatures in the comics, yet the whole Golden Army stuff is an original story. Also pretty sure Hellboy didn't have a romance (not to mention kids) with Liz.
Wow I had no idea that was made up for the films haha - it's such a core thread to the films' storyline! I guess they felt like it would give the two of them more of a sense of character development or something.
Johann: You will learn to obey me, follow protocol and stay fockused at all times.
Hellboy: Oh, that word? Fockused? Yeah....with your accent, I wouldn't use it that much.
Very much would be like the scene in the first Rush Hour movie when Lee says the "N" word.
I'm a huge movie guy. I find it so disappointing when you find something you love, want to share it with someone you care about... and they dismiss it 🤦🏻♂️
That's my wife. We don't watch movies together anymore.
Yes it is, but that's life and you can't force anyone to like anything. The world would be boring if we all liked the same things.
That’s not being a movie guy. That’s being a narcissist. Movie people like movies. Not themselves first. Get a grip.
@Gnossiene369 yeah, because you know me. Go to bed.
@@Banterbear true.
The guy who was the leader of the golden army (luke goss) was in a pop group back in the 80's here in the uk with his twin brother Matt and their school friend! en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bros_(British_band)
Thank you for the information.I didn’t realize Mr. Goss was such a multitalented man.
Been going through a little depressive period but even with the monotone at times reaction this has helped a good deal. Thank you alI very much ❤
He aged 40 years in ten years, the price of being a paranormal investigator 😅
We beg to differ Mrs. Movies, you are very much liked. You are our Jill Normal, our litmus test. If you like a movie we know it's good on it's own merits, not just because it appeals to nerds like us. You see, sometimes we NEED someone to say things like "Ehhh, did you see those trolls? They were just like big blobs of foreskin."
Roy Dotrice (King Balor) also worked alongside Ron Perlman in "Beauty and the Beast" (1987 TV series)
The actor playing the Elf Prince, Luke Goss, played the main vampire in Blade 2, which was also directed by Guillermo del Toro. David Harbour portrayed Hellboy in the reboot
I think you are both incredible, hence why I come back to these wonderful reactions! 😺😎👍🏻
There are two really good Hellboy animated movies that feature the cast of the live-action movies reprising their roles.
Love this movie just as much as the first. My favourite lines in this is when Abe says “body is a temple” to which HB replies “well now it’s an amusement park” 😆
We all love you Mrs Movies
its always a treat seeing how real you guys are with the family. also nice touch with the applause haha
Prince Nuada was an excellent antogonist. I couldn't side with him but I could sympathize with where he was coming from.
I used to have this DVD. Love this movie
Why do people think cats are cold? They're literally calling you "MOM!" when they meow at you.
Dog people never knew anything about cats
"Literally calling mom". Idiotic ? Speaking cat....meow means " easily manipulated brain dead idiot "...Meow idiot !
Okay, we don't need any bickering about pets meow, they're welcome to their wrong opinion.
It's easy to see why they gave Guillermo del Toro the nod to make The Hobbit all things aside.
I saw this in theaters when it came out best experience ever . My dad would take us every weekend to the movies and we chose whichever i was bored oicked this and made me love del toro. This movie was just awesome
It's funny you pointed out early that these creatures feel like Pan's Labyrinth creatures. The director for both films is Guillermo Del Toro and that dude loves his mythical creatures and fairy tales.
I think the Prince Nuada training scene is one of the best villain intros ever
You both are phenomenal. Keep rocking.
There is a comic storyline where Hellboy turn out to be the rightful heir to the british crown too.
There were two animated movies with the main cast
Sword of Storms and Blood and Iron, love watching them and even reading the little mini comics we got with them.
Sad ending if you ask me. The guys was like "let's make the world green and fantasylike again". Hellasshole was like "nope, i like it just like it is, hell".
Fun Fact: The actor that plays Johann Kraus is actually Seth MacFarlane of Family Guy, Ted, The Orville ect.
There are 2 animated Hellboy movies (Sword of Storms and Blood and Iron) voiced by the original actors. And there's a reboot move from 2019.
I will always be sad there wasn't a third one. I think they would have just got better and better. Plus, this one had so much imagination put into it, especially the troll market, that was a visual feast of creatures created with practical effects! The two animated Hellboy movies are fun, also.
We love Mrs. Movies! She's a fox. In French, she would be called "la renarde" and she would be hunted with only her cunning to protect her. She's a babe. She's a robo-babe. In Latin, she would be called "babia majora". If she were a president, she would be Baberham Lincoln. Also she's got a great sense of humor.
No, he wants to say "WAR NEVER CHANGES" .. 😁😎
there are 2 animated Hellboy movies called "Sword of Storms" and "Blood and Iron"...worth a watch
We love you too Mrs. Movies, we just don't always agree with you.
I NEVER want to rewatch the remake but I would LOVE to see you two react to it lol
The actor who plays the Prince was also in Blade 2, which was directed by Guillermo Del Toro aswell. Would love to see you guys watch Blade 1-3 though Blade Trinity...We like to forget about
I like both of y'all equally, lol!
After all these years I'm still pissed that cliffhanger never got a conclusion.
Both of you pick really good movies, and are great parents too.
This movie was so good, so much better than the 1st, a real shame we didn't get another like this one.
I have to admit, the reaosn I started following this channel is Mrs. Movies. The banter between the 2 of you is one of the reasons I stay. Sorry, Mr. Movies. I must say though, I do like your hat.
I like you both because y'all are fun to watch.
I watch for her reactions.
We like you bro :D, we also like her :)). especially her dexter reactions are my favourite.
The blend of sci-fi and fantasy for this movie is what elevates it above the first.
Being the son of the devil, or this world’s equivalent, Hellboy has multiple ways of bringing about the apocalypse, and the cool thing is that this movie shows that there are two supernatural weapons of mass destruction that Hellboy has the ability to summon and unleash upon humanity: the Seven Gods of Chaos - the Ogdru Jahad - and the Golden Army.
It’s one of cinema’s greatest tragedies of the last 20 years that the 3rd movie never happened, but if it could have, I think Liz was pretty short-sighted in destroying the crown. If Hellboy unleashed the Ogdru Jahad and other demons like Samael or himself, the Golden Army would have come in very handy in fighting them back.
You must have liked the first one a lot. Already into part2 in just a couple days
Fear the dog 🤣🤣🤣 Must have been a room full of postmen
I saw this movie in theaters opening weekend. I really liked Prince Nuada as the Villian, but the idea of Hellboy being the Harbinger of the Apocalypse and teasing him having Twin boys weas such a great ending to me.
I waited for over a decade until they decided to do a completely unnecessary Reboot with 2018's Hellboy and after that i refused to support anything related to Hellboy until they make Hellboy 3.
The fact that the studios wouldnt give Del toro the Budget to finish off the series and just decided to reboot it is such an unforgivable mistake.
Especially after Del Toro won both a Best Director Oscar and a Best animated Feature Oscar after 2018's Hellboy came out and bombed.
WENT TO A GUIRREMO DEL TORO EXHIBIT IN L.A.OMG!!! HE'S KEPT ALL PROPS, COSTUMES FROM HIS FILMS, HIS COLLECTION OF ORIGINAL COMICS, WAX FIGURES, EVEN OF DR. FRANKENSTEIN, THE MONSTER AND HIS BRIDE. IT WAS VERY COOL TO SEE HIS STEAM PUNK COLLECTIBLES FROM MOVIE SETS, TRULY AMAZING!!!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼😎😎😎😎😎
The princess, her name sounds like new-la, not what they were saying in the movie. It's Irish, which is the language spoken during the movie, mostly.
If you haven't already, you should definitely watch Don't Be Afraid of the Dark or Pans Labyrinth. Both by Del Toro, you'll see the similarities of creature designs.
It would have made more sense for Nuala to challenge him. There can be no winner which would probably destroy the army. That was something I never thought of until now! Thank you!
Love ya Mrs. Movies. Don't ever change. 🥂🍿
Cats can tell a good person.
Abe isn't a physical being. He doesn't *fight*, as such. He's more research and investigation.
I love both of you. Your in my top 1000 reactors 😊😊😊..
I agree this movie is better than the 1st.
F me Krauss is Seth McFarlane... how'd I NOT realize that?
this is my favorite one loved the dark prince and the magical world of fairies and the goblin market
16:40 as a twin I can confirm this
I mostly watch for Mrs sarcastic comments. Mostly
Cat's is always plottin on ya.
I do this in bedroom when you're not home .....(play with sword ) ....I'm just surprised by the honesty 😂😂
I honestly really liked these films. A shame we never got a third.
This is like Men in Black for Hell beasts lol
Love love love this movie!
I'm running over with my cat in arms- dont disappoint Bagel- She'd be sadge.
You should watch ,escape to victory ,if you haven't seen it yet, it's a brilliant movie ,it's so so good, you wont be disappointed , also dances with wolves and the young guns 1 and 2 and the mad max movies oh and the lethal weapon movies and rocky & rambo movie
And field of dreams also again if you haven't seen them
Rick xxx.
I don't know if anyone already mentioned it but you forgot to watch the '72 version of "The Blob" or in this case "Beware The Blob".
Always preferred the first movie since i liked the Eldritch horror theme over the fantasy theme of the second. But the second is a far better movie production wise if just a tad longer than it needs to be (and i like long movies).
Krauss can die, I believe in the comics his suit stops him from dissipating into nothing (hes basically ectoplasm... and that stuff isn't supposed to exist in the physical world)... so him shrugging it off and walking away was a little weird. He became that way after an extreme supernatural episode that basically vaporized his body and a lot of other people leaving only him, his spirit behind.
Pitty they didnt make a third, since Del Torro would have made it work... and there was a number of comic storylines they could have drawn from.
amazing sequel , love the fantasy world and the villian
It took me all these years to figure out that it's Seth MacFarlane who is the voice of Krauss.
"Adorable Difficulties"
Don't sell your self short a lot of us like you as well👍
There is a basic reason Hellboy 3 never happened Mike Mignola was asked about it during one FanExpo:
“The first film is very much a collaboration between the two of us,” continued Mignola. “The second one we sat down and tried to do an adaptation of the comics. Within an hour it became clear that he had changed the character so much from the comics that we couldn’t adapt any comic stories. So the first film is very much a collaboration. The second film is very much Guillermo. There was a moment in filming the second film where I said ‘Hellboy wouldn’t do that,’ and Del Toro said, ‘This isn’t your Hellboy, it’s my Hellboy.’ So, you grow a thicker skin and you deal with it. It is what it is.”
If I recall correctly, the pair fell out to the point neither was speaking to each other. This killed any hope of a Hellboy 3. Sadly, the reboot killed any hope of seeing my favourite comic hero back on the silver screen. It is a shame to see two such talented creatives unable to reach common ground.
I have to congratulate Luke Goss on his portrayal of Prince Nuada, his performance adds a lot of emotion and nuance to what could so very easily have been your usual scenery chewing villain.
Yep, basically Del Toro wanted to take the story in his way, while the comics had evolved in a completely different direction... Both are wonderful visions, sadly they just don't intersect (Del Toro has a bit of a positive spin, even in the darker themes he takes) and Mignola never accepted to let this particular iteration to close before doing something else.
Jumping to adapt the darker/gorier second half of the comic may not have been a wise move, since it's not the most accesible part, thinking of general audiences (for a franchise... maybe the short stories would fair better than the "larger than life" arch of the entire story). Still, there will be an adaptation of The Crooked Man as a second reboot (why exactly that one... no idea), let's see how it works.
@@DocuzanQuitomos They are both creators of highly detailed, stylised worlds. I admire both of them. There’s a wonderful animatic on RUclips of the Crooked Man. I hope the new project has legs and we all get to enjoy it on the big screen. Thanks for your comment 👍
38:48 This speech is very sad considering what the actress is going through now.
This could be in the Troll Hunters Canon...
Him: "I do that in our bedroom when you aren't home"
Her: "I'd pay to see that"
Well you gotta pay extra cause he does it naky
So the reason young Hellboy seems so "off" is because he's actually being played by an adult woman: special effects artist Montse Ribė. She's worked on many of Guillermo Del Toro's films including this and Pan's Labyrinth. 😂
Love this movie, one of my favorite Guillermo del Toro fantasy flick.
