Dilli - I usually say to them - don't ignore or discount your past experience - whether in health, business, whatever... tie that in to your newfound interest in GIS and use it to bring those skills to your GIS training.

I guess it is pretty off topic but do anybody know a good place to watch new movies online?

What are your suggestions for those students who will jump into the GIS sector from other academic background/professions?

Hello Joe, I have been wanting to get into a career involving GIS for a long time. I am 35 and a U.S. Navy Veteran. After lots of research I am at a point where I can choose to attend the GIS online program at Arizona State University (B.S.) or the certificate online program at Penn State. I already have a B.S. in Business and Forestry but am not working in the forestry field and was hoping you could give me some advice in choosing between the two programs. I know I need ESRI experience and Python. Both programs give exposure to Python….not so sure about ESRI. thanks for any advice :)

Ben greetings and I salute you. We have some Python and Jupyter notebooks lessons on learn.arcgis.com that I recommend. I work with Penn State and ASU both and have great respect for both programs. I don't think you can go wrong with either one. Also the Esri MOOC www.esri.com/mooc there is a coding related MOOC.

Is there a particular Laptop that would best fit for this line of work?

Ben - you can run ArcGIS Pro natively on Windows. Many people where I work have Surface Pro or Dells or others. About 1/4 have Macs .. but they need an emulator to run Esri ArcGIS Pro on it.. so you are booting in Windows - parallels or bootcamp - on the Mac. GIS is pretty memory and graphics intensive so any investment in a decent machine will be a good one. But - that said, I am running ArcGIS Pro for example on an old Surface Pro with a keyboard and it runs just fine.
