In this acoustic guitar buying guide we’ve picked out 5 of our favourite cheap acoustic guitars that are gonna sound great and feel nice to play, so if you’re looking for an affordable acoustic to start learning on, you’re not gonna go wrong with any of these, and they all come in at well under £150.
All of the guitars in this video are what’s known as dreadnought acoustics, which is the standard acoustic guitar size, suitable for most adults or teenagers to learn on.
We’ve picked these guitars because they all come from established, reputable manufacturers such as Yamaha, Fender, Tanglewood, Epiphone and Ibanez, and because of that they offer much a higher build quality than some of the unbranded guitars you can pick up in supermarkets or on online auction sites, which often tend to be poorly constructed and pretty difficult to play, especially if you are just starting out.
All of our guitars today came straight out of the box with a pretty decent setup, so the strings aren’t too high off the fret board, making it much easier on your fingers, and they all hold their tuning really well, something that’s essential on any guitar.
So if you're looking for the best beginners acoustic guitar or just an affordable but great quality acoustic, take a quick look and listen here with PMTVUK and try a few out at your nearest Professional Music Technology store...

Like most guitarists, I like a nasty high wound humbucker, or a really barking p90, pushed with a boost. We all need reminding every now and again, just how beautiful an acoustic guitar can sound. Thank you for reminding me.

I run duncan distortions, mid/high gain on evh 5150, and got a request to an acoustic song. pulled out the old hollow tree trunk and blew the dust off and found myself strumming for a few hours even though it's in dire need of a setup if not a dumpster lol. the action is so high compared to my LP, and strings were 5 years old and oxidized but still was kinda therapeutic.

Nice work Meg explaining why they are on the cheaper end, but also that lamination isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Also how the different woods make a difference in the tone of each.
The little bits of history were a nice touch.

Tanglewood are an awesome guitar maker, they blow the competition away on the low and mid range. I was lucky enough to purchase their flagship (over 12 years ago) BR90 this has solid brazilian rosewood back and sides and englemam top. Wow! what a guitar, it blows the competition out at the high end as well!

Great review of affordable guitars, would be hard to choose as they all look good quality. I'm wanting to learn, I'm tall so a dreadnought might be ideal, which do you recommend as easiest to play (action) and good for classic soft rock & indie music? Thanks

I got a tanglewood blackbird on sale for 195 plus tax. For the price it is amazing. Even without considering price it's a great sounding guitar.

The fact that the Epiphone Starling uses a GraphTech Nut and Mahogany body with a spruce top, makes it worth it

I was super keen to try the beautiful song Meg plays on the Ibanez as it seemed relatively simple and I am a beginner. But it does not sound anywhere like it, is it because of a special tuning or something? Can someone tell me? Thank you!

I have an F310 just like the one in this video, and the interesting thing about it is that although it looks cheap and has some minor visual flaws, it does feel well put together in the places where it matters. Plus it stays in tune surprisingly well.

Most beginners wouldn't care about a solid top, that's for when they're better at playing & want to upgrade. A lot give up.

As unbelievable as it sounds, some supermarkets do sell cheap terrible guitars.

    • @gardenstateflatlandb

Yup. Seen em. Usually action is something like 14+mm and no truss rod to even slightly help that issue.. They usually have "High Quality", or "Premium" printed in large font. Key words Americans can't look away from. "Ooooh PREEEEMIUUMMM. They wouldn't lie to us about THAT. I'm buying this sh**!"

Ibanez V54njp-opn is so terrible guitar , i don't know why is this guitar on this list ? Frets are so sharp , i know that on cheap guitars frets are not spot on but on this one is just terrible , ton intonation from 14 thread are like totaly dead , especially on E and A strings , all across the neck all kind of tone problems , ( yea i know to set up guitar btw) , That guitar only looks fine, but trust me that guitar is terrible. Yamaha F310 is ok , Fender cd 60 also ok , i didn't try that Tanglewood guitar so i can't tell , but this Ibanez V54 is just ...... NOT for beginner or anyone at all , Here on this video looks great , sounds great but in reality it's terrible. I try 3 same guitars in store and all are in my opinion the real hazard for fingers. Realy am not joking or over reacting.
