This girl cracks me up! Her pack is gonna be crazy heavy!
You hike in all of that?? I feel like that's all so heavy and exhausting.
I'll only hike with the day bag. Not the big bag.
oh! I figured by hiking you meant start at point A and stay at point B and move on but that makes more sense. ha
Misterlivs yeah ' got this.
haha had to say something about the wool pronounciation. mah-reee-no wool from the merino sheep.
+MephistoRolling - thank you, it took me several minutes to make out what she was referring to.Also, it isn't from New Zealand exclusively, Merino sheep are found around the world -even in Canada, USA,and many European countries. It really is great for travel in cold climates
haha I was confused of the same thing.
I had the same note, being a New Zealand native I didn't know what she was talking about for ages. Note to her: learn to pronounce it correctly if you are going to advise people to use it, makes it hard to find if they are looking for the wrong thing. Otherwise a good video
Every time she said it (and she said it a lot) I cringed!
MephistoRolling thank you so much, it was driving me crazy!
Wow that is so much stuff! When I was packing for a year of traveling I brought much less than that. I would get sick of carrying that 70 L bag around. But you're impressively organized so, that would help :)
Well the bag itself is only probably 55/60L since I don't use the day bag . However I do have my own day bag separately sooo lol. Camera gear, it's a ton of extra stuff
+Hey Nadine is the Osprey bag small enough to be able to use as a carry on if you wanted? or does it have to be checked? Thanks!
+Ben Ellefson from doing research I've learned a 30-35L bag is more appropriate for a carry on... I would double check measurements allowed as a carry on tho, it might change with diff airlines :)
+Ben Ellefson I would say not. We traveled all through Europe (even budget airlines) with the fairpoint 55L and it just meet the requirement.. US airlines we didn't have an issues with either but they aren't as strict! We Only ran into an issues once and they ended up checking it in for free but the 70L will be too big
The problem is your backpack is better to be 15% or less of your body weight so 70 L is mayb too much
Woah- that's some SERIOUS overpacking. I traveled the world for a year with about half that much stuff.
Isn't it MER-EE-NO wool?
+MimsieSky also hostel not hostile
Took me a minute to work out what she was saying!
MimsieSky yeah I was like “umm merino wool?”
@@wanderback Some hostels actually are
imagine getting stopped because of the washing powder 😶😅
Hahaha! I didn't even think about that! 😁
+ssshlow i've always worried about that, so i just buy the powder at the country i go to :p
I travel with washing powder all the time. I use stuff without added scent and f.ex last June I spent between 1 and 5 nights in each country. I had it in portion size zip lock bags bundled into a larger one. I saw no point in buying 5 boxes of washing powder. A lot of my friend do the same. Never an issue.
😂
You forgot the kitchen sink ;)
😂😂😂😂😂Iam deaaadd 🤣🤣🤣🤣
😩🤣😭😂😂
Damn! I couldn't even fit all that in my room.
lol
Ikr😂😂
HAHA
hahaha top comment
Love seeing how other people pack. Always good to do a final last cull.
I love that you pointed out that some nice clothing is important, everyone seems to forget that.
I'm not even going backpacking anytime in the near future and I still watched this whole video. Will definitely come back to this when I do need it! :)
That was amazing! I'm constantly watching these types of videos so I can be best prepared when I finally travel and that was the most informative yet! Thank you so much Nadine!!
Wow, incredibly informative. Awesome.
+Vivienne Gucwa (Travelinglens) Agreed!
Sorry but you over packed :(
She may as well take her whole house 😂
She did say this was for a month or more of travelling.
MrC0MPUT3R this is still way to much, for 2 months I took less than a quarter of this stuff
Joseph Dugdale I haven't really done much long term travel so I guess you're right. I also have the tendency to pack way too much :P
MrC0MPUT3R I guess it's better to take to much than too little 😃
could you do a video on all of your camera's and equipment please!! it would be super helpful to know which camera's and equipment are easier/more portable for backpacking and travelling. love your videos :)
Yup soon!
+Hey Nadine yes please!
+Spark of Joy YESSSSSSSSSSSSS this would be the best
This is sooo helpful! I never know what bag I want to put what in (whether in my suitcase or carry on/backpack), so I really enjoyed seeing the actual packing and fitting it all.
Great video, I'm in the middle of packing right now and it definitely gave me ideas of stuff I forgot. Personally, I like to take cliff bars with me if i'm gonna move around a lot. One time I took the bus from Poland to Ukraine and there was no food the whole route, I was really glad to have some calorie packed bars with me. (sure, you can but snacks directly there, but we all have our guilty pleasures)
+Elizabeth Travels We also keep snacks from flights, etc... and put them in our little "snack bag" - that way, we have snacks while we're on day trips. Collect all the free snacks when you can :)
This is a great video. I have never done a backpacking trip but would love to.
When I saw that huge layout I thought, "There is no way all of that stuff is going to fit into 2 backpacks." and then it did. WOW! you truly are an expert traveler Nadine.
You have no idea how helpful this was, i'm planning to spent one year living in Germany and once i get there, i want to travel as much as i can. Thanks for your tips !
In a few weeks i leave to go backpacking around europe for 7 months! I'm going to be Vlogging it if anyone is interested in following along... However, this video is a life saver! x
I'm loving all these packing videos, Nadine! They're so useful
very nice!!! *taking notes* haha ill be in germany in 2 days also good luck on you trips!
+Exploring With Josh enjoy germany! :)
I love your channel josh! :) safe travels
You all prolly dont care at all but does anyone know a way to log back into an Instagram account??
I was stupid forgot the password. I would love any help you can give me!
@Theo Richard Instablaster :)
@Wayne Miller Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now.
Takes quite some time so I will reply here later with my results.
I thought this video was really cool! I personally don't backpack and never have but it was really interesting to see everything that goes into it and all of the things you would need on such a trip.
All that... wow? you carry more clothes in your rucksack than i have in my entire wardrobe lol. But thanks for sharing your video.
Stopped watching after "hairdryer".
Hahahahaha
Why
What happened to look at your stuff half it and half it again x
Harriet Lucy stopped watching when I saw how much stuff she had laid out
I agree. I don't think this video was made for me.
girl, you are awesome, so glad i found this channel.
Welcome, glad to have you!
Great video. When I was younger, I used to backpack around Europe every year for 2, 3 or 4 months and I used to carry a lot less than you do, and in just one backpack. However, I love the way you manage to get so much stuff in those bags and the fact that you make your travels so much more comfortable by doing so. How much does that all weigh? I guess it works because you are not carrying it all, all of the time. This is the first of your videos that I've watched and I have subscribed, looking forward to seeing more!
this makes me want to pack up my bag and go! great video, nadine!
Really informative! Excited to see your backpacking videos.. Happy Travels!
There is something that I used to do when I backpacked, is to ship items to a local post office to "hold for pickup". That way you don't have to pack everything and you can use the same box to ship things home from there. This of course depend on where you are going. It requires a bit of planning, but it does help.
It's also quite expensive to mail things long distances. I'm studying abroad in Europe this year and had my parents ship me my winder clothes...the box cost around $100...and I'll have to ship it back as well.
+eleventhclara You are right. If I go somewhere a distance away then I do this after I get near where I am hiking. That way shipping isn't too expensive and you don't have to carry everything. But you are right, if its overseas or a long distance then its not practical.
your packing skills are amazing!
merino (mer-een-no) wool?
Rachael Muller .... no. It's "marihuana wool". 😂
I know! What is this mariano wool I keep hearing about?? :D
I remember watching this when it came out and thinking, I need to watch this before I go to Germany. Here I am getting ready for my trip. Thank you Nadine for the exceptionally helpful video.
doesn't carrying so much give a back ache?
if I was to think like a theft, I would slice the backpack open before dealing with a silly metal cord.
AT THE AIRPORT YOU COULDN'T GET THE CUTTING DEVICE PASS AIRPORT SECURITY.
DOCTOR LOGIC What? Why would anyone wanting to steal a backpack need to go through an airport security?
AT THE AIRPORT YOU CAN'T LEAVE YOUR BAGS UNATTENDED
Rufus Littlefield 😂😂😂
you would say thief not theft, theft is a verb the action of stealing, thief is an adjective to describe or label a person.
That water bottle is AWESOME!
I took two pairs of merino wool socks last year to both South Africa (winter) and Sri Lanka (hot!) they worked so well for both; kept me warm in the cold winter mornings in SA and also stopped my feet getting sweaty in the heat in Sri Lanka. Definitely a good buy!
Everything is about picking lightweight clothing and essentials. This is why I prefer Roadeavour branded travel accessories. They are light and durable at the same time.
How do you keep your stuff organised through out the trip?
+Pexzee We recommend a tiny fold up laundry bag that you can use when you're in hostels, etc. Day to day, we use our day pack... and we generally keep our belongings in our large backpack while we're out and about.
+definitionofself I wouldnt use plastic, kinda helps everyone in the dorm not want to strangle you ;)
+Veniece Blissisinthenow YES!! hahaha sooo true, when you people russle through their plastic bags at 5am to go hiking is the most annoying thing in a hostel!!
Not at all since you just zip it up! I found ziplocs (freezer bags) to be annoying since I constantly had to push the air out every time I opened them. Cubes have been amazing though!
YAY! Nadine you took my advice to go to South America and Argentina!!! I am so excited to see what your adventures will be! You don't even realize how excited i am!!!! :) hope you have a fun time on your trip!!
Never though that was all going to fit! Very impressed with the carabiner hiking shoe trick, I'll definitely be using that one. Enjoy your trip!
Are you a perfectionist or something? That was awesome. A to Z there wasn't a single missed out information. You even wore both the bags to show how you carry them. Hats off to you.
Now I am travelling to Japan and wouldn't want to wear both bags in turtle fashion because it looks weird and uncomfortable. What do you think about rolling backpacks? You know the ones with wheels and handle but can be worn as a backpack? That way one can worn and the other dragged.
Have you been to Japan? If so did you have problems with Google maps showing everything in kanji? Ever got lost? How did you find your way around?
Difference Engine (DE) the convertible backpack suitcases are so uncomfortable! You wouldn't want to lug it around if you moved around a lot
so many unnecessary things

Great video, you're my travel guru sharing all of your helpful tips and tricks. I love your sunglasses where are they from? Save and happy travels!Xx
You've come a really long way since the old days, been here since the wow days. Keep it up.
You pack so much stuff. Wow. I mean, I have a giant backpack as well (75l) but it`s usually half empty because you just don`t needed (but extra space is good to have just in case)
Thank you for all your videos
This is probably the best equipment and packing video I have seen. Just a few questions for you. What is the model of both of your backpacks you are using? Also, have you thought about using a UV light pen for purifying your water? That way you don't have the weird taste that tablets put in your water.
Super helpful as I'm going on a month long trip myself in about a week. I've traveled quite a lot myself already, but it's always interesting and inspiring to see what and how other travelers are packing. Thank you!! :) Looking forward to the toiletries video!
ove it !!! thoughtful and organised!! i don't see why its a problem when someone wants to go backpack and looking good at the same time!
I second the life straw. It's AMAZING! I've taken it everywhere with me, and I'm in love!
There should be a word for backpacking (Camping) & Backpacking (city traveling)
If anyone is looking for a good backpacking water filter, I would highly recommend the MSR Microfilter. It screws directly onto Nalgene water bottles and is a good all-around water filter.
Better yet, if you're willing to pack an extra pound, I would purchase a Katadyn Pocket Filter. It's practically bomb-proof, has a silverized ceramic filter, swiss-made aluminum and stainless steel case, good for 50,000 liters, and has a 20 year warranty.
Wow. I traveled 2 months in Russia with an Osprey Porter 46l
Everyone is saying that Nadine packed too much, but you have to remember she is travelling to two different climates, one of which happens to be Patagonia. Patagonia weather is fairly unpredictable, I'd rather pack lots and be safe than not enough and be sorry. As well, there's nothing wrong with bringing a hairdryer, it hardly takes up space and can help to control hair when drying.
Wow, it;s so thorough!! I took a 35l bag on an 8 1/2 month trip, I find when I keep moving I need less stuff but accumulate soooo much as soon as I'm still for a week.
I love how you just rolled right past the "Fake Prada" bag !!! Finally a RUclipsr that isn't materialistic! I love your videos btw! You inspire me to travel soon hopefully!
really nice video. its one stop shop for amateurs to learn how to pack a backpack. thanks
For all of you commenting she's bringing way too much stuff, what would you leave out? Other than the hairdryer and 'luxury shoes'. Just less clothes? Wondering as I'm hoping to backpack around India in a couple of months don't wanna bring this much stuff but not sure what to leave out
I am packing for a two month trip in multiple climates.
Leave out of the purses!
Make-up bag, toiletries and first aid kit were all HUGE. The shoes are a biggie, and yes, fewer clothes.
I have three pairs of shoes- 1 fair of leather flats, 1 pair hiking shoes, and 1 pair of flip-flops.
I have two pairs of pants, one skirt, one pair of shorts, one dress, three tank tops, two button downs, and one nice blouse.
It's also just not the amount she bought, but the material. Denim is heavy, thick, and takes forever to dry when washed by hand (as you'll probably be doing). Jewelry is also not necessary.
She is right about the scarf though, take a scarf or pashmina.
Isabella Kakembo First aid kit is essential don't leave that out (all the violent incidents that have happened first aid was needed) for camera gear ur cell phone/gopro plus a flexible tripod with adapters for use with ur cell/gopro and a separate waterproof gopro stick is good, a gopro helmet and body strap, also lots of extra batteries/sd cards and a external battery charger (if trekking a decent solar charger is a must as u won't have acess to electricity) as for clothing just 2-3 pairs of socks/underwear/bras, 2-3 pairs or tops/bottoms, 1 sweater or pullover, 2 jackets (moisture wicking/breathable is a must for a one bag traveller such as myself. If u want to see some of the stuff I take go to my Instagram page (same name).
This is a video primarily geared for vloggers and RUclipsrs - Nadine needs a huge bag of camera equipment and lots of clothes and hair dryers and straighteners for image. 99% of backpackers will need about half the gear. For instance shoes - in this case a pair of hiking shoes, one pair of sandals and one pair of flip flops will suffice, you can dispense with the runners, vans and wedges. You don't need a laptop or as many electronics as well. If you pack intelligently all you need is a 40L Osprey Farpoint, not the 70 litre version Nadine has here, and then a small daypack or shoulder bag, and that will be enough for several months.
I can't wait to see the camping footage.
Hey!! So in 4 days I'm going on a school trip for 3 weeks in a third world country and we'll be hiking and all sorts of other stuff! Your videos helped me out so so much so thank you!!! Xx
Loved this vid! I would really like to see a video on picking a backpack, what to look for/what to avoid. Thanks!
I don’t quite understand why she is carrying both bags... how the heck is one supposed to hike with a bag in the front?!? I speak from experience when I say that intense hikes like she’s talking about require you to be able to do some light rock climbing and above all see the trail in front of you. If you have a pack on the front you can’t bend forward and can’t see if there is any danger in the trail. I hate to be that person but it seems like she is planning for more of a clubbing trip.........
i'm from patagonia nadine, you will love it , it's just beautiful
+lucila tropeano So awesome! It's one of the top spots on my places to visit list
love the idea of strapping the boots to the bag, very clever! i would always worry about pick pocketers when using a rucksack, although yours is locked, regular rucksacks scare me for that reason 😂
Wow your bag can hold so much!!! I like you packing video it show the amount of stuff you can pack. Great job.
Glad you mentioned the bug spray. Beware the Zeka.
The way she says merino though 😂😂😂😂
Wow this is going to be a great help when i travel to India, London, New york and South America in 2017, will refer back to this video closer to the time, thanks Nadine!! :)
I just bought the farpoint 55 and I'm so in love! thank you for making this video
excellent and comprehensive backpack tutorial. I am going to peru for a month and this helped immensely.
When I saw that slovak passport I was like aaa ❤️ i am from slovakia and when I saw your video from summer when you were here I was so happy , i wanted to meet you but i was in US 🙏🏼
That ´ s so great that u r using both passports :)
We are carrying the exact same things in our backpacks! I'll be backpacking in Patagonia too (I'm from Chile) I hope you have an amazing trip 🙌
Brilliant video, really helpful and interesting to see what you pack and how you pack it. Good job.
Thank you!!! I'm packing for a 1 month backpacking trip!!!!
I'm not even traveling but it was really fun to watch this video, you're so fun and cute *.*
Do you always check your backpack? The far-point 70 specifically.
Nadine, you used to be a minimalist traveller, and now you take so much stuff, it's bigger than you. O.K this trip is going to be both hot and cold weather, so you do need to double up, but it still seems a lot. Your footwear assortment is really good, so anyone who follows your advice won't make the mistake of mountain climbing in flip flops or dancing in Uggs. lol
Do you have a video about the camera gear you carry? I would love some tips because I just started to travel myself!
great backpacking guide from a seasoned backpacker traveler
too much! ultra lightweight backpacking is the way to go!
A gear video would be legit. I really like the gear you use and the bags you use, but i don't know all of the brands you use. Could that be something you could do?
I liked this video. I'm a scout so I completely understand why you would need to being all this stuff. X
I'm too! It's cool to find other scouts ouo
Super helpful yet again! you put this up at the perfect time as I'm packing for a long trip! :D weeeeeeee you're wonderful!
i defo need to get one of those towels and face clothes, such a great idea as towels take up sooooooooooooooo much space
Sooo nice, I really loved this video so much, and you also look ppppretty nice and amazing in the final look carrying all the stuff, though it seemed massive amount at first.
Can you talk about what camera equipment you use both all the stuff your bringing (as well as brands and how you like it) and what you use to record this video? Your amazing Nadine keep it up love your channel and videos!
For 4 months I have a 45 L gregory octal (4 outfits+sandals, hikers, day shoes) I can get more cloths on site if needed.. toiletries(no makeup), and first aid kit + electronics/journal.. and including my camera as a small side satchel, no day bag. Go for the experience not the items :)
amazing video! definitely going to get back to it when I finally get to go backpacking.
btw: what kind of hiking shoes do you use?
This video was a huge help Nadine, heading to NZ for 6 months so will catch a bit of summer and winter and definitely picked up some tips as will have quite a bit of photography equipment with me as well!.
P.S. Them packing cubes are brilliant! Thanks again!
Great video and a good refresher for us seasoned travelers!!!
I'll be trekking in Patagonia as well! Maybe we'll run into each other, I make travel vlogs and all that fun stuffs
Dylan Magaster heyy I love your channel!
I want to know how to get stuff like that past security in airports😩
Dylan Magaster because I wanna hike and camp internationally I want to travel to different countries and camp or hike there and I wanna know how to get stuff like this past security 😩
See, this I can get on board with - I refuse to watch any more videos where they won't shut up about 'minimalism' - I want to travel, I want packing tips, I also want to feel good and not be lectured about the fact that I refuse to bring literally 1 pair of underwear and no makeup! Loved this video!
they make this thing called like a scrubba bag and it is to wash your cloths when backpacking and such, look into it!
So many great tips and packing items but I'm worried it may be a bit much. We're planning to travel for 6 months and I'm hoping I don't pack that much stuff lol. Great video over all!
Yeaaa, I'm not the lightest packer. Cause with all my gear as well its a lot . But this just gives an idea of what I pack. Like I mentioned there was a whole leave behind section
+Hey Nadine there were a couple things I wouldn't even think about bringing. I really want to get that washcloth for my face, just for everyday use 😊. I had to get back to work so I didn't get to watch the whole thing. I'll finish it tonight! Thanks Nadine!
Did she really say Mariano wool? Isn't it merino (mer - ī' - nō) wool?
You're right it's merino
