It might’ve been mentioned already, but one trick I always do is to wear the biggest pair of shoes on the flight/trip. Large shoes esp guy’s hightop boots or sneakers take up a ton of space in your bag. Pack the smaller shoes in your bag instead.
For women, panties should not be stored with footwear, as it can lead to infections. But you could probably grt away with putting it in a baggie in your shoes!
To people who want to pack light for winter time trips- invest in a good jacket so you don’t need such thick under layers. Also, thermal shirts. They are absolutely wonderful. Denim is heavy, so unless you plan wearing your jeans multiple days, pack other pants made of other materials. Also, at night, hang the clothes you wore in a well ventilated area. This way, they won’t smell so bad and you can prolong their use before the next wash.
Kiana Saty I went to Japan in 2017 at the end of December. In my opinion, the temperature itself isn’t terrible, but the windchill is pretty strong (also depends on where in Japan you go- I was in Tokyo). I actually prefer wearing leggings/thermal pants with a pair of jeggings or stretchy pants made to look like like nice pants over top. These items pack really small and with the leggings underneath, the top layer pants don’t smell as bad as quickly (body oils don’t really reach it).
Nice advices. For winter (or multiple-climate zones trips) I'd go anytime with TECH fabrics. Thermal t-shirts or longsleeves, socks, underwear and tights takes up very little space but are comfortable and super-warm.

It also depends on your location, as to whether they even have the products you need.
Good video. I like your rolling burrito method. Traveling in China a dozen years ago with a bunch of photo gear. At every train station were handicap ramps -- all of which, every single one, led to an onerous stairway -- which often had a good view of the elevator that was no longer accessible. Ca Lunk! Ca Lunk! Ca Lunk..... I'm currently packing for a three month sailing trip. I'm bringing a lot of the spare parts so three 18 kg (40lbs) roller suitcases. What I've learned is 1. Packing is where a lot of traveling anxiety comes from, so start as long as you can before your trip and do trial packings. 2. Don't take anything you can easily buy there. I have an umbrella I paid $70 for. I had to go back a couple of times to retrieve it. Had I bought a $5 one I'd have abandoned it as soon as rainy season ended. 3. You can no longer lock your luggage but if you tape it or use a strap, if Security opened it, you'll know immediately and can check it before you leave the airport. 4. the New York Times Wire Cutter is pretty lame. Their recommended 'best' suitcase is $700. I've got a $60 rolling duffle, a roller suitcase (max size) $130 and a hand me down (free). If after unloading all those boat spares I don't need one or both of the suitcases? They stay on the dock (I should pre make a sign that says 'Free!' in Vietnamese) Also a thief looks at a pile of luggage. He can carry one, what's his choice? the cheap bag or the $700 one? And the corollary to #1 above is: It always takes me three weeks into the trip before I'm dialed in with my method.
When I went on vacation and I knew I would need some heavy boots I just wore them while traveling to my destination. It helped me to reduce weight and space in my suitcase. But the rolling method is nice. I have to try it out 😁
Lol me too the biggest pieces like boots, hoody, cargopants ill wear on plane All comfort material, then air them on arrival A lot of people travelling in warmer countries forget to dress A: for cold plane n B: for arrival in cold home country
The burrito is really helpful! I went on a 5 day trip to Singapore and the weight of my carry on was only 4kg and that was the only baggage I had! Herschel’s Little America backpack is a really great bag for travelling.
Mona Kavi Mona Kavi From my experience, I suggest that you bring very light clothes. What I mean of light clothes is that the cloth should not be that thick. Singapore is hot and very humid. The weather is usually 27-30 degree celcius. Just bring one jacket (you’re probably just gonna use it on the plane). I would also suggest you wear skirts or shorts while you go there. Pants are okay but shorts or skirt is better. Sleeveless tops would be good too. For shoes you could just bring a pair of sneakers or flats (if you’re not really gonna walk far). Hope that this could help :)
Cannot compliment you enough on how you get quickly into content instead of the endless talk that some channels provide. Taking 12 min to describe how to pack 6 items is annoying while yak yak yacking. Thankyou again for your interesting, helpful presentation.
People in these comments are making “ packing light” into some kind of competition. Packing is personal, stop telling people what they need or don’t need to pack for their OWN personal use. What’s it to you anyway? I consider myself a light packer, but I personally would just bring a small carry on for 3 weeks trip because am not taking time to do laundry 3 or 4 times. And I would like to have some space to put souvenirs. She could have packed all that in a small carry on and be just as light and carefree in my opinion. She CHOSE a backpack which is cool. Again, whatever works for YOU.
The amount of clothes I take depends on how quickly things will dry. In hot climates things dry overnight easily. I prefer colder climates so take manmade fibres as they dry much faster. It is not hard to wash through your outfit at the end of the day, if necessary. The microfibre towel is also great to use when you wring out your clothes as it absorbs more water.
I'm not an over packer. I tend to pack very lightly but I was curious to see other methods and indeed a learnt somethings different and quite useful too! Glad that I clicked 😄😄
Recently did 2 weeks in eastern Europe with just carry-on. Very do-able and very freeing. I wore layers rather than bulky sweaters, got some ski base layers at my local Aldi and those kept me toasty for the trip.
Really loved almost all the tips and hacks (except for the 'putting underwear in shoes' thing. I would rather keep those with the outfits like you showed later). For me, the best tip was to use the contact lense box and small bottles for toiletries, also the plastic wrap idea to prevent liquid spilling. Life-saving hacks! Thanks a million!
Another key thing when packing is to pack clothes that can be mixed and matched, things that can be worn more than once and things that are quick dry in case you end up having to wash them. That way if you are wearing an outfit and you spill something on it say your shirt you just change the shirt instead of the entire outfit and wash the shirt so that it can be used again later if it is needed. There is no reason to pack 7 pairs of pants, 14 shirts, 5 pairs of shoes, 3 pairs of pajamas and multiple dress outfits when you are only going on a trip for a week. Last time I went to Las Vegas for a week with my husband I was able to pack (using the rolling method) everything I needed for myself and my husband for the full week in a single duffel bag that was still small enough to be considered a carry on bag.
This was so useful!! I’m currently packing for a long scout trip and we have a limited amount of space for bags so I had to pack everything into a rather tight bag but after watching this video I still had half a bag left!
Burrito Baby is also known as „Ranger Roll“ or „Grunt Roll“. A variation of this is to roll your socks in with the open ends sticking outwards at either side. In the end you just pull the socks‘ open ends over each end of the whole roll so you have a sealed package that isnt going to unravel at all. Also, if you travel for a longer time, get yourself some Merino shirts. It is the most awesome stuff in the world. Breathable, light, packs down really small, dries in no time at all (useful whenever you can give them a wash in the sink or so), good for almost every weather situation. A bit on the pricy side but worth every penny. A friend of mine travelled the world for a year with just four of those - and they are still going strong. Personally I can fit a week‘s worth of clothes in a medium packing cube...but every cubic inch I save is then gobbled up by camera gear 😅
Great video. My tip for men is polo shirts rather than button up shirts. They still look smart, work with jeans or trousers and easily roll up small and tight without getting all creased up
Havent you seen her jacket burrito tho? You might just do the same thing. Maybe she does not need a lot of jackets too as she might be traveling to a somewhat hot country..
Tip for everyone: There is a very similar bag from Kaukko (I got it from amazon) for half the prize which has the same quality. I have one that looks extremely similar to the one in the video :)
the thing is.. there's always that basic stuff you need no matter how long you stay- shampoo and other toiletries, pajamas, pants etc.. I can go from a 3-day-suitcase to one for a 7 day trip by just adding 3 additional shirts and that's it- but there's always that stuff that you just need to pack no matter how long you travel and that's what's making me always carry a big suitcase
'Oh, okay. I'll learn something...' 00:08 "Hi." 👀'Chriiiiiiist.' 👀😅 Thanks for the info. I forgot about the roll-up method. This helps. Much continued success!
I’d like to see someone do this with either a cold climate or someone who wears much larger clothes. Larger clothes take more room because there is literally more fabric. And a cold climate means more clothes.
I'm six feet and also bring a foldable crutch, a pillow and theatre outfits. And bulky pyamas. 35 liters for a weekend in January in Berlin. I did bring an extra bag with food. 🙂
Actually for warm climate, you need more clothes even though each piece is less fabric. Normal people sweat a lot more in warm weather and start to smell after a day.
Thanks! Seriously ridiculous overpacker here, and you have given me some excellent tips. Any chance you might do a similar video for a winter trip to a cold and rainy destination like Iceland? Thanks again!
Just follow the same instructions. Learn to layer your clothes, and wear your heaviest items (sweater, jackets and boots). You'll need them all the time anyway, so you might as well keep them on your person. Use thick socks instead of thinner ones and add some long sleeve shirts.
Good quality thick coat, 2 pairs of thermal undershirts and leggings, good pair of boots that you wear on the plane, 1 hat (in your pocket), 1 polar round scarf and thick gloves (in your pocket). Only things you need to pack are the thermals, which are thin, and the scarf, which you can also hang from the outside of your bag while you fly then wear on you there.
The concepts are the same. just with different clothes. keep it to one main jacket (that you'll always be wearing) will help. Don't make cold weather an excuse to overpack
I can't help over packing. I'm so afraid to be without something that I need and then kick myself in the butt cuz I didn't bring it! However, you showed me a great way to roll my jacket into a baby burrito which saved so much space! I also decided to leave full sized bottles at home. Great video ❤️! Thank you so much from one traveler to another 💓😍😍!!!!
I am a serious over-packer & these serious helpful tips & examples. I wish I would’ve watched this before a recent week-long trip to Fripp island, SC with al my wonderful sisters. Thanks for your post.
I always bag my shoes for hygienic reasons. Grocery plastic bags are perfect for that. As to what everyone should pack, that's very personal. I don't think this would last me three weeks unless I had access to a washer. There are other things I'd have packed as well.
It used to be a good idea until you have to take them off at the airport for scans and then you start getting stares and grunts for holding up the line.
All these packing hacks are always for consistently warm climates so light weight clothes and jackets. I’d love to see them do it for the Scottish climate were you can literally get all 4 seasons in one day. When Monday can see blue skies and blazing sun and temperatures up at 25c and Tuesday when the morning can be foggy and the rest of the day can be peeing down with rain and it’s dropped to 12c . We’ve had snow in May you know.
@@purrpurr888 I can understand why u can't do laundry cause there's no laundry mat nearby but I don't understand how it's expensive(?). if you're only packing a backpack full of clothes it should really be one load, maybe two load tops. as for sweatshirts, heavy jackets, jeans..., yeah u can't wash those by hand. but the whole point of this video is packing light so I'd dress in layers, unless u get cold easily or going to cold places. other than falling in water with your whole wardrobe in ur backpack, I don't understand how ur not being able to do laundry or it's expensive.
@@k.m.9418 it depends on how long your trip is. sure, a backpack is enough for a week or two without laundry, but when you go for a few months with light packing it is inevitable to spend on laundromats even if you wear them three times or something. or if the place has a washing machine, still utility fees... but its not the point, the video isnt about this :)
Packing for three weeks I would think more bath soap would be required as well as lotion/ sunscreen and using contact lens cases is just not realistic for three weeks, but the rolling of clothes is a wonderful idea. Thanks🤗
Can put a water bottle in one side pocket and your umbrella in the other- that's what I do when I know it's gonna rain and I have to walk to my classes!
I got a soft water bottle that looks like a 1-liter capri-sun with a carabiner on the cap. It doesn't dent, and it rolls up into a tiny little thing that's easily tucked anywhere. :)
I’m a bigger girl and it is possible .. yes there’s more fabric and if it were for a cold climate .. well that’s just near impossible for me but warm clothes I can. I did an under armour backpack and a purse for 2 weeks in Romania (summer) It had to weigh less than 6kg so I did the best I could. I only had one outfit I didn’t wear.
I think packing 3 pairs is too much also. Extra 1 or 2 at most. Dressy shoes and a pair of sandles or flip-flops. Running shoes can be worn during hiking too.
Thumbs up! I am hooked on how-to-pack light videos. Everyone has something unique to offer (the mint tin hack is great.) Eyeglass cases are great for headphones, chunky jewelry, and chargers. I don’t use a backpack but a carry on suitcase. These tips work for that, too.

I have to try it out 😁
Lol me too the biggest pieces like boots, hoody, cargopants ill wear on plane
All comfort material, then air them on arrival
A lot of people travelling in warmer countries forget to dress
A: for cold plane n B: for arrival in cold home country
4 shirts for three weeks ???
Paloma Brighton the only one paying attention to what your wearing is yourself 👍🏼
And laundry detergent ;)
That's how I survive in college
Do laundry along the way, in every country around the world, people have to wash their clothes, you'll find places to do so.
Guess you missed her packing laundry detergent.
great tip about the contacts cases! I have so many of those that come free with solution and I never thought to use them for lotions. Thanks
Yes I agree but for 3 weeks I wouldn’t have enough for body cream.😊
The burrito is really helpful! I went on a 5 day trip to Singapore and the weight of my carry on was only 4kg and that was the only baggage I had! Herschel’s Little America backpack is a really great bag for travelling.
Wow my country! Where in Singapore did you went? any places of interests?😊
Hi
Hi can u suggest tips packing for sg
Mona Kavi Mona Kavi From my experience, I suggest that you bring very light clothes. What I mean of light clothes is that the cloth should not be that thick. Singapore is hot and very humid. The weather is usually 27-30 degree celcius. Just bring one jacket (you’re probably just gonna use it on the plane). I would also suggest you wear skirts or shorts while you go there. Pants are okay but shorts or skirt is better. Sleeveless tops would be good too. For shoes you could just bring a pair of sneakers or flats (if you’re not really gonna walk far). Hope that this could help :)
kj I went to a lot of places! My favorite one is the Arts & Science museum. The pictures that I took there was amazing.
The tip with contact lenses case is brilliant!
Cannot compliment you enough on how you get quickly into content instead of the endless talk that some channels provide. Taking 12 min to describe how to pack 6 items is annoying while yak yak yacking. Thankyou again for your interesting, helpful presentation.
Love it, going to try the burrito baby right now. Cool use of the contact case too!
Not as easy as it looks lol
that contact case not enough hold enough for one wash. wth....
Finally a positive comment
Erica doko , it's not for soap.
❤️❤️ yes girl
Well said 🙋🏻♀️🙏🏻 this comment section is quite annoying lol
Your comment deserves a hug!
Lolo Volcy I am too lazy to read what you typed 😅
Ya but the comments are arguing about the essentials, I hope that message can get through ur thick skull
Normal people: burrito baby

YUP!!🙋🏾♀️😉
The amount of clothes I take depends on how quickly things will dry. In hot climates things dry overnight easily. I prefer colder climates so take manmade fibres as they dry much faster. It is not hard to wash through your outfit at the end of the day, if necessary. The microfibre towel is also great to use when you wring out your clothes as it absorbs more water.
I do not travel I honestly don't know how I ended up here
😂😂😂
it was a sign that you SHOULD travel lol
Honestly same
Same for everyone now
This was very helpful - so many people say they pack light and then proceed to over pack. I really enjoyed your minimalism.
Underwear smelling like stinking feet, such a turn on.
@@MrGroganmeisterclean your shoes then
Another key thing when packing is to pack clothes that can be mixed and matched, things that can be worn more than once and things that are quick dry in case you end up having to wash them.
All i need is hermione’s bag with undetected extension charm
Between the video and some of the comments below, I have received the best tips for packing after a long search. Thanks!
This was so useful!! I’m currently packing for a long scout trip and we have a limited amount of space for bags so I had to pack everything into a rather tight bag but after watching this video I still had half a bag left!
i usually pack simular colors so everything can mix
my fav is nature colors, brown, beige, green, camo,
I like the bag.. it looks big but not so.. and it looks durable.. perfect for travel
"...'cause you're always gonna be wearing something... hopefully." 😂😂😂😂😂
Great video. My tip for men is polo shirts rather than button up shirts. They still look smart, work with jeans or trousers and easily roll up small and tight without getting all creased up
These are all only t-shirts and pants. What if you need sweaters, blazers, jackets? They're not so compact when rolled in a burrito
exactly
Havent you seen her jacket burrito tho? You might just do the same thing. Maybe she does not need a lot of jackets too as she might be traveling to a somewhat hot country..
aguonu pieva this is a video on "Packing Light" if you really need all that stuff than I surmise this video isn't fit for you...
@@laresident7692 coming from Northern Europe no packing for trip is possible without at least two sweaters
then you use the appropriate luggage for those items....not that difficult.
This is also great for students who go home for the weekend!
I love the way you folded up the jacket and also the pants/shirts together!!! Thanks for the tips!!!
If you are wondering what is the brand of bag she used its Herschel...
Chef Bob Valentine THANK YOU !!!!!!! I was looking for it
OMG thank you I needed this
finally
Tip for everyone: There is a very similar bag from Kaukko (I got it from amazon) for half the prize which has the same quality. I have one that looks extremely similar to the one in the video :)
I've been looking for so long thanks
We were going on lil school trip for 2 days and all of my friends brought suitcases (including me ) lmao
Ikr because you need your whole wardrobe incase you don’t feel like wearing that outfit.
My daycare and me were having a sleepover. We came late in the nightand went back at like 9 am. Even though everyone had a suitcase
@@naomi.asmerom #relatable
the thing is.. there's always that basic stuff you need no matter how long you stay- shampoo and other toiletries, pajamas, pants etc.. I can go from a 3-day-suitcase to one for a 7 day trip by just adding 3 additional shirts and that's it- but there's always that stuff that you just need to pack no matter how long you travel and that's what's making me always carry a big suitcase
@@Terry-wo4up You can have essentials and more in a small duffel. I don't get the point in overpacking.
No one has mentioned it but but disposable face wash, underwear, socks and bras! They are a game changer! Also bring Tide washing pods as well
Great ideas! But where do I put the kitchen sink? Serious overpacker here. Thanks for the suggestions. Less is more when traveling. I'm learning! ☺
Wear 2 to 3 times unless there's laundry? Not likely if you are traveling in tropical regions...
Jason Koh truee you can just pack 1 pajamas, unless you gonna buy it at local stores
why is it not likely if youre travelling in tropical regions?
Zoe D you will sweat a lot, even in your sleep. it will be sticky and smelling if you re-use your jeans and cloths
Not even Winter in Europe
In tropical regions there are less people. You don't care if you stink if you don't meet people.
A fantastic video! The trick with the lightweight jacket is absolute magic✨
Are you an overpacker
Me holding my three suitcases:No!😂
Holding 3 suitcases.. And typing a comment at the same time... Now thats a skill I need on my résumé.
@@Kik_Hat_Sne there is something called Gboard (for Android users) which can type on ur voice commands 😅
Lolololololol
I only have 1-2
Hahaha.. this is funny
I never comment on videos, but this video is Super useful, Thanks for the tricks!!
@Aly K. Very relevant comment indeed about larger body size/clothing
Normal people sweat a lot more in warm weather and start to smell after a day.
amazing mini traveling laundry beg : ruclips.net/video/Cj-EtrogLLE/видео.html
@@yivunqp963 yo should be washing your clothes each night anyway.
Great trick with keeping the outfits together! I keep a small bottle of dry powder laundry detergent and only sometimes get stoped at customs for it
I can't help over packing.
I can just about fit 3 nights into a huge suitcase :')
Lol same
Jewelry n make up options is a must for me. I like to dress based off my mood n outfits
I can pack 10 days maximum in a big suitcase ;-;
That's sad.
Mia Wong thats really inpressive... i can barley fit 5 days in to a suitcase
I also use plastic grocery bags for my shoes. Also dirty laundry.
Wear the hiking books on the flight. You save crazy amounts of packing space that way
Hiking Books haha
Too aggravating taking them off in the airport and re-donning them.
It used to be a good idea until you have to take them off at the airport for scans and then you start getting stares and grunts for holding up the line.
The zip bag is a great idea. I’m going to Milan in April and I’m challenging myself to take one bag for 10 days. Thanks for the tips.
‘Putting it in contacts case is a great solution’
I see what you did there
This is more like I’m not going to be looking cute on this trip type packing
Omg facepalm
Exactly!
V. S..Trying to tell ya!
LMFAOOOO I’m screamingggggg
Some women have other qualities and don't have to look cute.
We’ve had snow in May you know.
for those heavy clothes packers... laundry is the key to packing light.
but sometmes you cant do laundry or its expensive. washing by hands is also quite hard with some clothes
purrpurr888 what kind of clothes that were hard to wash by hands?
@@zonnm for example jeans or hoodies. you cant squeeze the water out entirely so it will take forever to dry. not to mention regular towels
Why so many pants. Just take 2 and you could bring more shirts or something, just so you don’t have to wash every three days.
That's what my cousin does, She only takes 2 pants and like ten shirts 😂
Little did you know, i have seen girl with 10 with similar jeans. And there's also redditor who mentioned girl usually have many jeans.
3 weeks.... you travel... for spare... it not like the washing will dry instantly...
You did amazing job packing plus you are so humble. Nicely done.
Packing for three weeks I would think more bath soap would be required as well as lotion/ sunscreen and using contact lens cases is just not realistic for three weeks, but the rolling of clothes is a wonderful idea. Thanks🤗
No you buy it after arriving at the destination
Pro tip, get a backpack with a bottle holder on the side or clip the bottle on with a carbiner
@@HipposHateWater that sounds so neat! I'm assuming you got that online?
Packing for a long trip. Thank you for the Burrito baby, such a great way to condense bulkier items and not so bulky items.
Shampoo in a contact lens case FOR 3 WEEKS? Are you kidding?
People use more shampoo etc. Than they need to
Most hotels have shampoo though
For my 22 inch hair for 3 weeks!?This is my problem when travelling coz I have to bring my own shampoo. Can't use other brands.
Buy more at your destination.
It’s sunscreen in the contact lens
Real talk: I've found that minimalist packing videos only apply to slender people who have sizes of clothes that use thin textiles.
I think that is kinda true. I can't roll any of my bottoms because there is more material than someone who a smaller size than me.
Disagree, I mean T-shirts are pretty much always made of thin fabric
m0egrrL Totally agree! I’m 6f and do not have a chance to pack so light. Three pairs of shoes would take the whole of my backpack 😂
Also, non-cold destinations
I’m a bigger girl and it is possible .. yes there’s more fabric and if it were for a cold climate .. well that’s just near impossible for me but warm clothes I can. I did an under armour backpack and a purse for 2 weeks in Romania (summer)
It had to weigh less than 6kg so I did the best I could. I only had one outfit I didn’t wear.
Just to let you know, nobody dislikes your video, it's RUclips themselves, they do this to manipulate the statistics. Brilliant video, I subscribed!
Three pair of shoes? I need just one and I don't pack it in the bag, I wear it.
Same here
Adrian J Nyaoi
Well ur a guy
I think packing 3 pairs is too much also. Extra 1 or 2 at most. Dressy shoes and a pair of sandles or flip-flops. Running shoes can be worn during hiking too.
Adrian J Nyaoi , depends on what you need to do while in the shoes.
I made that mistake once. Shoe got damaged and I'm a size 13, so its not easy or cheap to get a replacement
I've travelled a lot and there are some great tips there. Love that folding technique. Will be using that on my next trip.
Thanks. 👍🏻
Short, sweet, straight to the point! Great video!
What litre is the bag? Its still impressive you've fitted all that. Shoes take up lots of space. Clothes less so.
Alex McCaffrey not sure how many liter, but the backpack brand is Hershel, you can look it up.
@@HanaTNT thanks
I was on a trip to Asia for almost 3 months and i've had same size of backpack with me. It was enough.
Very well produced. I like the tip about the mint box and the folds. Merci beaucoup, très apprécié comme vidéo.
Definitely gonna use this advice to pack my suitcase. But I have so many toiletries to take . Which I cant condense down
Thumbs up! I am hooked on how-to-pack light videos. Everyone has something unique to offer (the mint tin hack is great.) Eyeglass cases are great for headphones, chunky jewelry, and chargers. I don’t use a backpack but a carry on suitcase. These tips work for that, too.
BOSSED IT! - I am a disabled guy who also computes as a hobby. You've just given me 100% of the info I need to REDUCE my luggage to a manageable load! I too know the 'shoes trick' and it also works with 'dry' containers (IE waterbottles you don't fill til on site). THANK YOU. stay safe & happy trails!..... TJ the DJ.
This is so vastly different from my life. I need that size bag just to carry my medication and other important medical paraphernalia. Then there's all the disability related equipment I need to take too. If you can travel this simply thank your lucky stars
