I think TBBT is definitely friends for a new generation. Just like friends people either love it or hate it. Personally I love both. Good light hearted fun combined with some great sentimental moments and fun characters.
It's a contender, but I'd have to give that title to How I Met Your Mother.

Since the creator of TBBT also worked on the production of Friends, earned his living from it, and I am very familiar with both series, there are a lot of parallels for me as an "expert". Some jokes were even reworked and well packaged and used again. I would also like to stress that I have no problem with that at all, since they worked very well in both series - and amused me... European here btw.
One of my four favorite shows of the 21st century, that I can watch endlessly in reruns without getting bored; the other three being Castle, Monk, and Person of Interest. Come to think of it, except for Castle, they each have a Sheldon-like lead character.

Since you laughed so much and enjoyed it, I'd definitely recommend continuing since this series was such a a force in its time.
As for the eraser boards, real physicts would put formulas on the boards, differencing each episode because of the university they used for shots. When Sheldon says the last doodle is just a spoof, it really was.

I hope you continue reacting to TBBT! I'm not even that big a fan of sitcoms in general, but TBBT is one of my favorite shows, especially as it got into some of the later seasons (even though the early seasons are fun, too). One fun thing - pretty much all of the pop culture and science references in the show are accurate which is something most other shows don't care enough to bother with. The other thing I really like about the show is all of the characters are well written and, as a regular watcher, you begin to like and care about all of them.

Yesssss. So glad you're watching this!! Side note: all science and math is accurate, Sheldon has autism or asbergers but that wasn't announced until the show ended bc its a lil behind on the times, which you'll notice in the character's and humor as it's a little dated. But overall, a great show❤

My father loved this show, tried to get me to watch it when it was on. When I heard it was ending, I watched the last two episodes, fell in love. My local vid store had the seasons, so I rented and watched the whole thing. When the vid store closed in 2021, I bought all the seasons. I watch it on a dvd player In the kitchen when I'm getting ready for work, making food or doing the dishes. I've seen all 12 seasons over and over since 2020, lost count how many times I've rewatched the whole series. Finished it again about 3 weeks ago, today I'm back up to the 5th season. 😊
You sound like me. Gave it a shot about 2 years ago. I'm currently on season 7 for probably the 20th time lol.

Will & Grace is pretty funny too. First couple of seasons are meh but the characters become so unhinged and insane it's hilarious. Recommended at least checking out a compilation vid to see if you're into it, a bunch of them don't spoil much because of the level of insanity it's hard to know the context unless you've seen the full episode.
Jack and Karen really steal the show, imo.
The first couple of seasons are fine, it's great setup for the later ones, and still has some good zingers.
One of the best sit coms out there please watch all of it you won’t regret it will full of emotions and laughs.

As long as you don’t take it too seriously, TBBT is a great show. It became my family’s lockdown watch during COVID so it holds a special place in my heart! This is a really good show! Lots of story lines that make the whole series a great run. I think you'll like it❤
I love TBBT, and I'm happy you enjoyed the first few episodes, the early seasons are... rough to watch. Chuck Lorre came from Two and a Half Men with a lot of acceptance of misogyny, plus a not-so-clear path for the guys, so the show feels pretty empty until it starts to unravel into what it is. For such a character-driven show it takes a while to settle, but starting on season 3 it becomes way way better, so if you like it now, you'll like it even more.
I'm surprised you haven't seen the big bang theory yet. But it's another series that I love and I can't wait to watch this all the way through with you 😊 hope you enjoy it.

Sept. 24, 2007 season 1 only 17 episodes, Nov. 5, 2007 a SAG strike shut down production, the strike ended Feb.12, 2008, season 2 the first episode was Sept.12, 2008. I did a one week Nielsen Ratings during the strike and couldn't rate "The Big Bang Theory", so I wrote a rave review of the show in added comments, I was afraid it wouldn't come back but the rest is history, 12 seasons later and all the shows stars multimillionaire's! I’d prefer if you did HIMYM - I feel like it’s closer to Friends, it’s funnier (imo) and it has Alyson Hannigan AKA Willow from Buffy! I watched FRIENDS as it 1st ran. I'm about the same age as the cast (old now) Love that show. But then BBT stole my heart.

I'm sure others have already said this, but you watched the original pilot, not the one that aired. They cut out the whole sperm bank "masturbating for money" scene, as it doesn't really fit Sheldon's character.
If you watch more... and you should.... you'll likely agree that it isn't in character with Sheldon.
Holy moly macaroni and cheese! You started The Big Bang Theory! This show replaced me watching Friends over and over again. This and The Office. I alternate between the these two shows to have in the background at all times and fall asleep to.

Of course you must go on! This is one of the greatest sitcoms, alongside with Friends and How I Met Your Mother.
Okay. So now you are watching three of my alltime favorite tv shows (TBBT, Friends, Buffy) at the same time. It can't get any better.
Even more then Friends, you can dig into the Big Bang Theory on at least two different levels. It's just plain funny, and that's all you need to enjoy the show. But it also includes some interesting and very mixed playing around with stereotypes. Sometimes they manage to defuse them in positive ways. But just as often they simply reinforce stereotypes or capitalize on them.
Plus, if you want, you can engage with one of the key questions of the entire series. Is Sheldon's often difficult to live with personality just that -- his personality -- in which case he's kind of awful? Or, is he actually significantly affected by OCD, autism, or some other combination of neurologies that make his behaviors something he has only limited control over? Where you land on that question can have a large influence on how you view the show. And for better or worse, "the show" is inconsistent on it.
Love the show, and I hope you react to the whole series!

Why do drugs, though? Even if it's legal in your state, if you're doing any reactions high or just drunk it's basically fake because you're not in the right (normal) state of mind, so you're just gonna laugh at anything for pretty much no reason.
Also, one of the things I remember about when this aired there was a K-pop band I adored named Big Bang. I constantly got into confusing conversations regarding the 2. fun times
