Thanks for the comparison, Aldryn. The Evo 2's obstacle avoidance was herky jerky and the ground looked like Astroturf in most of the footage, whereas the MA2's Active Track was smooth and the footage came out more evenly, with room to tweak in post. So MA2 for the win. Glad I have one.

Loved the obstacle avoidance comparison. First time I've seen this very useful information! Most comparisons focus on how well the drone can avoid crashing in ridiculously challenging conditions, and the Mavic loses. But yours is the more realistic use case. Normally, people using the drones this way are trying to get nice smooth video footage. The Evo footage was mostly unusable in my opinion. The viewer's attention is drawn away from the subject as the tree rushes up to the drone and you're looking at that instead, then the drone dodges to the side and rushes to keep up. As a viewer, my attention is on the drone, its movements, and the obstacles in its path. The Mavic on the other hand, makes consistent smooth movements, giving obstacles a wide berth, just like a real camera man would do. My attention is on the subject at all times and the drone does a great job of following on a nicely controlled path. There's no way I would use the footage from the Evo, while the Mavic footage is excellent.
I guess im asking randomly but does anyone know a tool to log back into an instagram account? I somehow lost my password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me!
@Abram Harry i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and Im trying it out atm. Takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Thanks! I think the color profile of the DJI more realistic and it seems like the Air 2 obstacle sensors are tuned for a farther initial sensing distance making its moves more gradual and usable where the Evo seemed to wait for the last moment to correct making it jerky. Great job of putting this together!!
I don't know how they did it but OA in Mavick Air 2 is really amazing. I've been using it for couple of months now and it still surprises me. It wasn't shown on this video but to me it sometimes it looks to me as the Mavick chooses how to flight not only to avoid obstacles but also to give you a better video. So not awlays the shortest path but more "cinematic".
Nice shots of the Santa Barbara pier and coast. Looks like MA2 is able to anticipate a clear path where the EVO waits till the last moment to avoid the palms making a jerky move.

Thank you for making videos about the actual point (is it called straight to the point?) and keeping focus. I have had great values from your videos since I started to look into drones.
Great comparison. Here are my observations: The E2 video appeared to have more dynamic range, less contrast and less noise. However, when moving, it seems to have trouble with textures like grass (lack detail). In you color graded videos, I think the E2 results looked more natural. In the 48MP close-ups, the E2 was the clear winner with much more fine detail and much less noise. The E2 Dynamic Track was a bit wild. Thanks for posting this.
In this one the color richness goes to the Evo but the picture of the mavic looked better to me still... Especially on that last pier shot. The water looked better on the mavic. It was clearer whereas the evo looked grainy.... The mavic was also steadier in the obstacle avoidance test. Classy
I'd be interested in seeing the start point for both drones. It looked like the mavic was directly behind you and the evo was trying to stay to the back quarter while you were running the trail. I'd also like to see the mavic when you're running around the trees.
Looks to me that the DJI Mavic Air 2, not only has a more natural video (no color cast) than the EVO, but it also flies much more smoother when avoiding obstacles that the EVO does. Thank you for the comparison.
The smooth motion of the avoidance on the MA2 takes the cake for me. Maybe Autel will release updates to offer a choice to the user of how the drone behaves.
this was really interesting! to me it looked like the evo was saturating the greens and the land while the mavic looked like d cinelike until the water shot it looked a little more saturated than the evo. Awesome video! You are a content god!

The Mavic Air 2 all the way. I am hugely impressed with this quad. Video is great and the photos in good light are almost as good as the P4P. I posted one that I took over the weekend after picking it up and was amazed. Thanks for a great video.
Aldryn, is there a range extender for the Evo 2? Or maybe it doesn’t need one...can fly 5.5 miles! What is your thought? (Just got mine...maiden flight today....love it!)
Say it as it is, the MA2 is just smoother as far as obstacle avoidance. Good video! I keep seeing the MA2 compared to a drone almost twice its price. In that, it's got my vote.
Regarding the Active Track, I'm a DJI MA2 owner but personally liked the motion of the Evo, just made the footage more engaging to watch! But I agree that the MA2 was smoother and likely provided more coverage.
The Mavic Air 2 would crash. It has no side sensors. Unfortunately, that's how most people compare these drones and the Mavic loses out. My take is you have to know your drone's limitations and don't use it in ways that it isn't designed to work. Using Active Track sideways in a crowded environment is a sure way to crash the Mavic. So don't do that.
@@dkuchta5 this is exactly whybi bought the evo 2 the dynamic tracking is night and day better because of the 12 sensors. No side sensors on the air 2 makes it vulnerable to any many crash instances
Thanks for the nice comparison, Aldryn. In my opinion, the video straight out of the camera comes down to personal preference. If you like a warmer, softer look, go with the Evo. If you like a cooler, sharper look, go with the MA2 (or any other DJI drone, for the most part). I do think the MA2 had a more natural look. Of course, you can always adjust to your taste in post, but it's nice to not always have to. That structure with the bright rainbow colors is great for camera comparisons! Thanks again!
While I love your idea for this video comparison you are right it was such a lousy day that I really could not make a fair decision based on the video. I would love to see this one again under good weather conditions.
I wonder if MA2 would not have lost you if you had been wearing a less muted color jacket like an orange or a light green hue. In the shot wear it lost you you did kind of blend. Have you ever tested such a variable?
Thank you for the comparisons. I was looking into the EVO 2 4k because it was on sale and priced similarly along with being able to fly it anywhere. I went with the M2A and it will be here today but I am very concerned it will be locked from flight by DJI in needed situations. Such as shooting a wedding. Coming from a spark. Thanks again.
I can't believe that the footage from MA2 looks better and more pleasing to my eyes when watching on my cell phone, MA2 feels like a better drone but cost a thousand dollar less. can you compare tracking in more complex environment?

Is it safe to say that the active track is way smoother on the Mavic Air 2?? It is sooo hard to decide which of these drones to get. I wish the Mavic Air 2 had 8k and the 1 inch sensor like on the Evo 2 Pro
the SD conditions are actually really quite apropos for this comparison because anyone who knows SoCal fog layers knows the lighting and it makes a great footnote to see what each of these respective drones do to the realtime presented conditions.
Would love to see you weave between each palm tree while running and see how each behaves. If you have a skydio 2 to compare using this test would be really interesting
I think EVO has F1.7 or F1.8 lens? Would be interesting to compare full res still image quality while sitting on a table (remove movement as a variable) and low light / noise (EVO lens should help a lot of it’s F1.8).
I slightly preferred the video and photos from the Evo - both for color and for sharpness. I hugely preferred the Mavic for obstacle avoidance - much smoother flight with more usable video. The price difference makes the choice easy for me - Mavic 2 Air wins!
Even though the MAVIC AIR 2 doesn't have side sensors it seems like it's doing better following you. It seems to be more smooth.. The AUTEL EVO 2 seems to be herky-jerky all over the making a decision too late. But it works great. LOOKS AUTEL NEEDS TO DO SOME WORK WITH THEIR FOLLOW ME MODE.
The side follow is beautiful on the MA2, right up until you go into some trees, then it becomes part of the trees! I know they couldn't put side sensors on it, otherwise it would have completely taken any reason to buy a MP2 away, but to me it was a bit of a misstep on DJI's part. The good news is you can buy Refresh and crash the suckers a couple of times and still be half the price of the EVO 2!
You may be the most fit out of all the drone reviewers 😜 I wonder if the evo’s more aggressive nature will allow it to follow faster subjects better. Good comparison. A stark difference between the 2.
@@FlytPath in a clear path it is really good yes. It would be nice if you coud do a 3D shot around you so that the drone knows where it is flying and even if you fly to the side it would know that there is something if you coud first scan the area around you
Very nice video. The MA2 is better in video and photo and the trace active track is awesome even with no side sensors. Can you make the same comparison of obstacle avoidance in these two drones in a much harder wooded area? Thanks
If I was given to choose from the two drones, then I would have probably taken MA2 for sure.. It is better than any other drone... Comment your opinion below.... BTW-- NICE COMPARISON BETWEEN THE TWO DRONES....
Although the Evo is a phenomenal drone, I always find the colors overplayed, almost cartoonish. When taking in to account price point, the Mavic Air 2 gives a lot more bang to the buck. Great review, as always.
I really like your reviews. I have a question about the ADS-B Airsense, Right now it's only coming to the United States. Is there a situation that ADS-B will also sell to Europe and the Middle East? Thank you. Eran.
DJI seems smoother because it doesnt have side sensors to even make it aware that it might be near something. however the autel does have side sensors and the programming seems to make it respond aggressively. i think that the evo 2 has much more potential with a software update.
The OA on the EVO despite being more capable with side sensors just seems very rough and unpolished, reminds me of the Skydio which can pull off some insane OA but likewise is also very rough and unpolished, might make the video unusable if it jolts around too much like that. That being said, I think the Evo 2 Pro will be the one in demand despite its higher price tag. The lack of Geo tends to pull in the professionals who do this for a living rather than recreational fliers who can always just find another spot to fly.
The EVO2 8k definitely seemed more erratic with the obstacle avoidance. Also better colors but not as sharp as the MA2. The MA2 is probably the better buy.
I've heard that controlling the Evo 2 feels something akin to controlling a flying brick after one has flown the Mavic Air 2. Your thoughts on those claims?
Evo was a little warmer color profile and Mavic Air 2 has a little cooler profile. On the other hand I thought the Evo was a little softer and The Air a little sharper. So all comes down to personal preference.
Judging by the quality of the footage in your videos, the Evo 2 just pips the quality of the Air 2 (as you would expect at 2x price). Not to knock the Air 2, as at its price point it is outstanding value. Personally I think the Evo 2 8K actually competes with the Mavic 2 Zoom - The Airframes are very similar in capabilities (speed, obsticle avoidance, featureset), and I think its pretty obvious that Autel picked the Mavic 2 as its benchmark to beat. The Evo 2 8K can do a 4x digital zoom in 4K without any loss of definition, which compares favourably to the Mavic 2 Zoom's 4 x optical zoom, but does so with a 1/2" sensor vs the 1/2.3" on the Zoom. Price wise they're more favourable too at $1350 for the DJI vs $1450 for the Autel. Then to continue Apples vs Apples, The Pro's compete directly, both with 1" sensors. Though of course the Evo 2 Pro does 6K giving it a 2x zoom advantage over the Mavic Pro, but the colour depth and profiles are otherwise both on a professional level. Then theres the Evo 2 Dual Sensor vs the Mavic 2 Enterprise edition...
evo footage made me dizzy... too bouncy... also the obliteration of shadows such as in the grass blades while following you removes the texture-feel of the scene so you are unable to appreciate the 3d aspect of the clumps of grass since they are literally non-existent... and also, the white balance on it is too warm on the evo... thank you for taking the time to make this video !

I think EVO has F1.7 or F1.8 lens? Would be interesting to compare full res still image quality while sitting on a table (remove movement as a variable) and low light / noise (EVO lens should help a lot of it’s F1.8).
I’m buying a drone for my RUclips, after I register it, am I good to go or do I need a pilots license or anything? Or can I fly as a hobbyist?
I ordered the Evo II pro for use in real estate shots. Looks like I will need to learn how to shoot RAW and clean up the pics post production
Excellent comparison
EXCELLENT SHOW AND TELL, THANK YOU.
The GPC I needed for my mavic 2 and smart controller is not available at amazon. Found a GPC discount code here. Thank you. Carry on.
Wow great comparison 👏 and presentation man , I like mavic 2 because its DJI
Mavic Air ate that follow me up. 👍
You may be the most fit out of all the drone reviewers 😜
I wonder if the evo’s more aggressive nature will allow it to follow faster subjects better.
Good comparison. A stark difference between the 2.
Umm I have a question. The Mavic Air 2 does not have side sensors so isn't it a little bit dangerous to fly Active Track Parallel?
Yeah there’s a higher risk of crashing
Correct. I made sure the path was over the sand and nothing for it to hit
@@FlytPath in a clear path it is really good yes. It would be nice if you coud do a 3D shot around you so that the drone knows where it is flying and even if you fly to the side it would know that there is something if you coud first scan the area around you
That lack would seem to mainly be a problem with cross-winds gusting.
Very nice video. The MA2 is better in video and photo and the trace active track is awesome even with no side sensors. Can you make the same comparison of obstacle avoidance in these two drones in a much harder wooded area? Thanks
Awesome video bro!
If I was given to choose from the two drones, then I would have probably taken MA2 for sure..
It is better than any other drone...
Comment your opinion below....
BTW-- NICE COMPARISON BETWEEN THE TWO DRONES....
Cool comparison video. Thanks for sharing.
Although the Evo is a phenomenal drone, I always find the colors overplayed, almost cartoonish. When taking in to account price point, the Mavic Air 2 gives a lot more bang to the buck. Great review, as always.
Cigar Nation Warriors I’m glad updated the firmware of the evo so st least the footage looks much better now. But ya the price point is a killer
What do you use as a video editor software?
I really like your reviews. I have a question about the ADS-B Airsense, Right now it's only coming to the United States.
Is there a situation that ADS-B will also sell to Europe and the Middle East?
Thank you.
Eran.
That i don’t know. Best bet would be to jump on live chat with dji
Wow Active Track in the Air 2 is way better, thinking of upgrading from a Mavic Mini.
Great video as always ♥️✔️
Nice one!!
@Sullivan Arian Umm I am not sire what your message means or why you post it here but okay xD
In my opinion, the Mavic's camera is better, the advantage, the Evo is only in the side sensors.
This isn’t San Diego, whered you shoot this?
What country is that? The air seems polluted
Really liked the music...great video
DJI seems smoother because it doesnt have side sensors to even make it aware that it might be near something. however the autel does have side sensors and the programming seems to make it respond aggressively.
i think that the evo 2 has much more potential with a software update.
Thumbs up ere' great comparison between the 2 drones - many thanks for sharing the info - stay safe :)
Nobody should need geofencing turned off. Not very professional if you aren't supposed to be there in the first place
@@ronburgundy4743 in an ideal world sure, but DJI Geo is far from perfect, often costing people jobs and money.
IMO the Mavic Air 2 looked much better. I currently have the Evo 1 and am strongly considering shelving it and getting the Air 2 for that price.
What was the location for the shoot?
Awesome video! This is super helpful.
Glad you think so!
The EVO2 8k definitely seemed more erratic with the obstacle avoidance. Also better colors but not as sharp as the MA2. The MA2 is probably the better buy.
Did you used hdr on mavic air 2? Becouse i fly one and its better than autel if you used hdr
The Evo 2 flying like it's intoxicated through those palms.
