I feel like Gojira's Magma album is more what you are looking for. It has more melodic parts and clean vocals than their older stuff. The farther back you go in their music the heavier it will get.
The Link ain't that heavy though, with some exceptions, the album has a good mix of tribal sounds and melodic metal. It almost sounds like nu metal in some tracks. It's so underrated also.
@@superjonh1000 remembrance is a sick track from that album, I fuck with all the albums I have listened from Gojira ( I have listened to their 5 first albums)
Why have we barely gotten into their best album yet?! The way of the flesh is packed full of bangers. Some of their very best songs are on it like Vacuity, the art of dying, Oroborus, esoteric surgery, wolf down the earth!
Maynard's Spaceship the only full album that he has listened to is the bands arguably most heaviest and than when he says that he doesn’t like growls his fans give requests like Clone and Lizard skin when an album like Magma exists that a guy like drew would probably highly appreciated.
A song like this is one where you just have to take the intensity of Joe's vocals as part of the music. The intensity makes songs like this so raw to listen to.
space time would be perfect from this same album, space time is still heavy asf but its also strikingly melodic and groovy at the same time, very cool track absolutely should be the next Gojira reaction, and from what you said in this vid Space Time would be perfect for you
Death metal IS a lot, took me YEARS to get into them. I've listened to metal for about 16 years but only got into death metal about 5 years ago. It's a gradual process. As others have said, Gojira's Magma is a real departure from their death metal influences. Stuff from Magma like Silvera, Only Pain and Low Lands especially are a lot more accessible.
To be honest, listening to the radio or everything else, I wanted nothing to do with music, but I started loving music once I discovered death and black metal.
4:23 I truly believe you need to feel the music. Listen to the lead up to this drop, and then feel the groove of the actual beat. Minimise it, it's classic rock here- the rest of the genre is of course in the other sections of the track. I could groove to this all day, so catchy.
Would love to see a full album reaction to L’enfant Sauvage- what I would say is their most accessible while being heavy record. A lot of great gems in the track list as well (Liquid Fire, The Wild Healer, Planned Obsolescence). Keep up the good reviews man.
What I love about your content is the fact that I can tell you are really thinking about each song from a musical standpoint, you are really thinking about it as the song plays, maybe it's because I am a huge Gojira fan or maybe it is because I am from a neighbouring country that I can tell you are thinking about it I'm not too sure. Either way, I love your content, keep this shit up my dude.
I'd really recommend you to listen to some of their newer songs, such as "Only Pain", "Pray" and "The Cell"... A lot more melodic and not too heavy (still kinda heavy though)! Might be a lot more up your alley in terms of Gojira!
The further you go back in time in Gojira discography the more death metal Joe's voice is, and even really a lot of the riffs are more rooted in death metal bands like Morbid Angel. He's even said it himself in interviews that he prefers to sing with more harmony now which is why a lot of their later stuff i.e. L'Enfant and Magma are more in that sound area and use less growls, if any at all. Deliverance is the best track off the album though, you really do need to do that one. The breakdown will blow you away, but the vocals will be the same. I say try and tune out the vocals and just imagine them as another rhythm instrument.
I suggest songs from the album The Way of all Flesh. I think they are of course still heavy, because that's gojira for you, but for me, it was easier to get into them through that album personally. I still never really enjoyed death metal at all when I first heard them, but it was technicality of them, and vocals has not been an issue for me for a while. This is my favorite band of all time because if the amazing riffs they whip up, and the perfect song structure in my opinion. I would say try Oroborus by them, good song to sort of ease into.
Based on what you said in the video, I think you would enjoy more the "L'enfant Sauvage" album. To me, it's kind of a mix between the heavier element of previous albums and the "easy-listening" element of "Magma", their last album. Their two first albums are more on the way of death metal. Give it a try, maybe that's what definitely sell Gojira to you!
Seems like your overthinking it bro, its just music, and you sure seem to enjoy it when you listen. Its the purpose of life is to percieve. Feel what Gojira exploit out of the minds ability.
Also if you want some actual emotional gojira, do "lowlands". It's directly related to Joe and Marios mother and her death. It aint heavy really it' just a journey
If you ever want to back to gojira, try their "Magma" song, its very melodic and has no growls, but still progressive and heavy. I think you going to like it.
I would absolutely love to see more of gojira hear and I would recommend the song "love" but if not it's OK, also opeth Demon of the fall would be cool. But since you don't have problem with non English lyric songs would absolutely love to see you react to Batushka, they are a small band but a very unique one.
Meshuggah does the same thing with getting melody in heavy metal. Near the end of "Straws Pulled At Random" is a good example of this, and there are a few other songs too
If you’d like to hear their heavy but melodic stuff then you’d really like their latest album and L’enfant Sauvage, their first two are absolutely heavy face melters
I reckon you need to take a listen to some tracks off their Magma LP, it has a lot more melody which I reckon you'll appreciate. Greetings from Waterford btw 🤘
Hey Drew, really appreciate you giving Gojira a chance. I don't think you'd like their early stuff, but L'Enfant Sauvage and Magma really have what you seem to be looking for. I highly recommend Pray, especially the extended version live at Red Rocks 2017! I think you'd really enjoy that one.
"REMEMBRANCE" react to it please! You need to listen to something off of "The Link". I'm pretty sure you'd like this album. The problem is that you're listening to their heaviest stuff first. Don't let this cloud your judgement.
I’m not gonna lie, you would probably really dig Alice In Chains. Heavy nasty riffs meets hauntingly beautiful harmonies. Man in the Box or Rooster would be a good place to start.
Alright everyone in the comments saying you should react to newer stuff but now that you are in the older stuff from them I'd suggest the song Over the Flows, it's a kinda chill song from them and really different (just like the rest of the album)
Honestly I always find it strange that the request lead to the older stuff firt, because it's so unacsessible, do honestly do some new stuff like The Fall, Only Pain, pray and Vacuity
I honestly think that there is a certain parts of the mind that needs to be opened when it comes to metal. It's not really enough to listen to it but how you listen to it. I think the exact same thing holds true for rap/hip hop. Rap and metal can be acquired tastes but I've always found the best things in life are an acquired taste. It helps open the mind and breaks down stereotypes. (maybe posting while high isn't the best idea)
I totally understand the concept of not caring for the uber-death metal sound. Gojira is such an exception in my opinion. But I’ve been a rock and metal fan for a while. If you’re looking for a beautiful mix of heavy and melody, I can’t stress the band “Dance Gavin Dance” enough. If I were to suggest a first song, it would have to be “We Own the Night”. Please do this. I promise you will not be disappointed.
I feel like Gojira's Magma album is more what you are looking for. It has more melodic parts and clean vocals than their older stuff. The farther back you go in their music the heavier it will get.

😅

Exactly esoteric surgery, all the tears
You mean...he's talking about how he borderline thinks Gojira are too heavy, yet he hasn't even heard a full album??
The way of all flesh and Adoration for none are sooo insane!

Wolf Down The Earth is tribal afff
Let's gooo, more gojira please!!
Make the full "L'enfant Sauvage" album
I know this is a year later lol, but the title track from that album is so good, the breakdown/drum solo at around 3 minutes in is crazy
You really need to listen to more off of The Way of all Flesh and L'Enfaunt Sauvage. I doubt you're gonna like much from their first 2 albums.
Agreed Trevor... both albums are in heavy rotation in my car. Songs like Explosia and Wolf Down the Earth are among their best.
A song like this is one where you just have to take the intensity of Joe's vocals as part of the music. The intensity makes songs like this so raw to listen to.
Crazy how they started of heavier than they are right now.
The first album is probably one of their purest when it comes tp heaviness.
That's because they were heavily influenced by Morbid Angel for that album, and you can hear it.
@@maggotthemadman8142it’s morbid angel but better
GOJIRA- “REMEMBRANCE” the Link is underrated af.

I think you'd super dig their album Magma. It's definitely their most accessable stuff.

Space Time - Gojira, Good mix of a melodic verse, pinch harmonics and a heavy breakdown.
Be'lakor - The Smoke Of Many Fires

Gojira - Esoteric Surgery is what you're looking for!
A Sight To Behold is really what you should check out. Its the most melodic track from them imo.....but still has some heaviness to it.
In my honest opinion the next Gojira reaction should be the song called Liquid Fire from l’Enfant Sauvage album😏
That song is killer! The Axe and Born In Winter are some other good ones from that album
Gojira is more accessible if you start with the newer stuff and work backwards. It's all so good
Saw them live hungover at about 1030 in the morning at a festival a few years back. Unreal
