"Clone" or "Space Time" by Gojira from their first album, like nothing you've heard from them yet, heavy but with elements of almost sci-fi like guitar work.
Finally some Terra recommendations, thank you. Remembrance the link alive is definitely one he has to check out. Clone, Blow me away you, space time are all gems.
What you like is their heavy groove sections, which are so unique. The drum and bass lines drive it and their guitars compliment it really well. Space TIme, Rememberance, Clone and Esoteric Surgery, and Explosia all have really grooves which I would recommend and they are all bangers.
That part of the song at 7:36 in the video always gives me chills Edit: 10:43 I agree! They changed up the riff and it sounds awesome but it fades out :(
You’re totally right... a soft message inside the hardest sound. I feel bad for people who have a problem with taking care of the earth. It’s such a basic thing. Another reason why Gojira defies the label of ‘death metal’. They are something completely different, and they evade categorization.

After the first couple of songs he did from Gojira, i knew he wouldn’t like Backbone and Where Dragons dwell. I also am not a fan of both songs, especially backbone. My favourite Gojira is the old Gojira. Anything from Terra Incignita is pure gold to me, especially from the link alive... to each their own, that’s what makes this band so incredible!

My first, and only experience with Gojira live was at Heavy Montreal. I had just seen Sleep and Trivium, 2 live bands that have been playing together forever and play absolutely flawlessly. I knew Gojira was going to be great, but they made Trivium, as I mentioned before, an insanely tight band, look like a high school talent show by comparison. To your point Drew, about the message, Joe's presence on stage from the second he walks out is one of absolute disgust for humans and their disregard for the planet. It seems an unusual thing for heavy music to have an environmental message at first, but once you've done some digging, you'll see that a few of the most successful bands in metal have these types of themes. Carcass and Death both delve into the worlds of ethics and death, for animals and humans respectively.
I'll continue my shouting out for you to check out Mastodon, their tracks Halloween, Jaguar God or The Last Baron for starters. Oh man, you like guitar riffs and groove, Mastodon have them both in loads :) Halloween is a great jumping off point, the last two albums have cleaner vocals and are, dare I say it, easier listening :) than the earlier stuff. Jaguar God is the kind of music that I didn;t think got made anymore and The Last Baron has a real beauty of a riff.
Jim Jennings, right on! Mastodon does beautiful and Mastodon does heavy as ass. And most of us likes both sides. The two favorite tracks of mine are The Last Baron and Jaguar God, connecting on a emotional level with those. Keep fighting for Mastodon. I myself is a solid Cult of Luna admierer and im trying to get Ghost Trail in the line of sight for Drew. I think we´ll all very much like it. Peace!

I completely understand what you mean by different lyrical topics motivate people in different ways, and I am someone who actually really loves their lyrics and the environmental/ethical messages they discuss. I like to think that songs which people really connect to are ones which cover topics that are really deep and that many people can relate to on a personal level. When you put the environmental and ethical issues that they sing about into perspective you can see that these are actually issues that transcend the individual heartbreak and hardships we are all faced with, as we are all contributing to these issues on a much larger scale. They talk about our collective contribution as a species and as individuals to the destruction of life on earth itself rather than a blip of hardship that may occur in someones life, and sometimes I feel like that holds so much more meaning and warrants such hardcore instrumentals much more than hardship that an individual may face in their life.
One of my favorite tracks from Gojira. I like that you stick with bands and check out more of their songs unlike most channels just move to the next band.
