- If you have lymphedema or swelling on your arm but you might want to watch this video.
Lymphedema is characterized by localized swelling or swelling on a specific area. This is caused by trauma or blockage to your lunphatic system. There are multiple reasons why you might have this kind of swelling but just to rule out anything else, you might want to see your doctor to have a proper diagnosis. Ask your doctor if it’s OK to do lymphatic drainage.
In this video we will be doing in Lymphatic drainage or massage. This is also called manual lymphatic massage.
First let’s do deep breathing. Push slightly on each quadrant of your belly.
Let’s start massaging under the jaw to stimulate the lymph nodes under it.
Next will massage the clavicle area or the collarbone. Use your entire hand if possible.
We also need to massage the groin area. Do at least 9 to 12 cycles.
After that, we will massage the armpit opposite to the arm that is swollen.
Now we will massage the middle part of your chest where the anastomosis is located.
Then pull across to the opposite under arm Starting from the chest closest to the opposite armpit. Do a pull and release action.
Now we go lower. We will massage the middle of the waist where there is a pathway. You can use the push and pull technique or circular technique.
Next we will massage the Under arm Of the side that is swollen.
Now let’s massage the arm. We will start from the shoulder. We will typically divide the arm into smaller areas. So we start from the shoulder. Next day upper arm. Remember to use the pool and release technique. Then we go to the elbow. If there are areas that are tougher to the touch then spend more time there. Don’t forget the bend of your elbow. Next will be your upper forearm going down to your wrist. Then we go to the hand starting from the back of your hand. You can bend your arm to allow gravity to assist the drainage. And then we go to the fingers usually the fingers will be more swollen because of the joints there. So spend more time there you can also use the slightly pooling of the skin to create negative pressure. then we go back to your hand, towards your wrist then towards your forearm, elbow upper arm and then your shoulder and your arm pits. Remember that this is better if you can do skin to skin contact. Then we massage in the middle of the waist area. Then we finish off with the deep breathing again on each quadrant. Slightly pressing down and doing a deep breath.

Hello from ireland 🇮🇪. Please can you do a video for a drainage routine for both arms and both legs and trunk please as I am not sure of the sequence as I know this must be important. Thank you
Have you seen the research from ICG mapping of lymphatics in secondary lymphoedema. It showed no one with secondary arm lymphodema post breast cancer drianed down the torso , and 70 % of the people in the study drained to the same axilla- the same side the lymph nodes were removed. They also did leg analysis. This shows we always need to personalise our self massage if we know we have lymphatic interuptions.( i stopped massaging across midline and down torso for myself when ALERT unit first started publishing and presenting papers and webinars a couple of years ago when they started developing ICG mapping techniques) ALERT =Australian Lymphoedema Education Resrach and Treatment, Macquarie University Sydney. For anyone interested , you can see a list of published papers on lympheodema stuff if you search for Louise Koelmyer & her ALERT page .

Hi Nathan, have you made a video for the right arm yet? Thanks.
Does wearing compressor garments help?
Definitely
Thanks for your reply. Your exercises are simple. How long should I wear the compressor glove for? It leaves a mark on my arm for a short while. Does this mean it's too tight? The skin gets a bit itchy too. Is this normal? What brand would you recommend? Thanks.
Thank you for your video. My palm and fingers are swollen and so painful. Can I take some painkiller and do this massage
If it is very pinful, ease on thenpressure and ask your doctor if it is okay to take pain meds just to be sure there are no complications with your other meds
excellent
Hope your arm gets better

I haven't been diagnosed yet as my symptoms are confusing therefore im being refered to specialist..anyways would you happen to know if lymphodema can cause extreme constant pain in all lymph nodes from chin down to ankles without the lymph nodes showing any swelling on a scan? Please & thank you!
Pain yes. It can be painful. Because it might be over working or overwhelmed
Hi Nathan. Thanks again for sharing this video. I have a request. Due to Parkinsons my left foot is curling in. It’s very painful to walk. I do your exercises for Parkinsons but this is not healing. Please help. Thanks. Stay blessed.
AssalamuAlykum Nasreen! My name is Usmahn, I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2018 at the age of 40. I don’t have the issue of the toe curling, however my right toe moves a lot which causes aching.
@@GoProGoalieUzi Walaikum Assalam Usmahn. I hope you get better. May Allah make it easy for us. Read the first 4 ayahs of Surah Rahman when that happens. It helps when I do this. SubhanAllah.
@@nasreenmalik997 brother where are you located? I am in Canada. I will make du’a for you, that Allah makes it easy for you and I and grants us shifaa☝️
I currently take 15-17 sinimet per day. Then sleeping pills and cr sinimet. My main problem is stiffness, rigidity, slowness and anxiety..
Try using those things they use to spread the toes apart when getting the toes painted on. And massage the sole part to relax the fascia there

I just had my mascetomy a week ago and the moment i still feel sore on my chest. So,when is the earliest I can do the massage to reduce the fluid retention on my armpit and chest? Is it okay if i use massage oil when i do the massage? Can I massage my armpit if it is still painful and my drainage tube is not taken out yet? I am really sorry for asking too many questions...
Its okay. Wait for your doctor to clear you. Let the wounds heal and when you start this, gentle massage is advisable
