At the end of the day it's a shaft with a label on it. Men's/Ladies, it's a lighter shaft and that's all that matters. Forget about the label and focus on the facts! A lighter shaft will create more swing speed period. I crush a ladies Callaway X22 4 iron and hit farther than my group that hit a 3 wood and I am very consistent because of the lighter shaft.
Yeh I play benross senior shaft irons and hit them well, your correct saying they help you swing the club more smoothly, great Vlog.🏌🏽♂️👍
I won my club championship with a ladies driver and a bullseye putter !! Spiders and epics, who needs 'em!!!
I have used ladies shafts for a few years as they give me a bit more whip and club head speed. Just bought a Taylor Made M4 ladies driver and it’s given me another 20 yards on my drives! If you’re a Senior like me it’s really worth a try!
They also work pretty well for juniors who are just at a stage of being between adult men's clubs and junior clubs. And as you say for anyone with a shorter swing speed they are great
Interesting video. I hit a friends ladies f8+ driver and found it to be consistent with my rogue driver. It was shorter, lighter, and not my style of aesthetics, but I found it pleasant to hit. When I really tried to get into it, I couldn’t get the same max distance that I get out of my men’s rogue though.
I remember 25 plus years ago whilst on holiday, borrowing my mother in law's lynx ladies clubs for 9 holes. Vividly remember hitting a superb (for me) fairway wood into a 210 yard par 3 green. Easy / straight as you like with a lovely flight. Now in mid 50s and more time to work on my game, I'm having a rethink re using lighter and softer shafts especially for driver (currently 80g regular). Watch this space......
I use either Stiff or x-Stiff shafts, but I once gamed an Adams Idea OS 5 hybrid in senior flex and it was so easy and effortless to hit straight. The only downside I noticed was when I was playing in windy conditions. It spun up too much and launched too high and I was losing a lot of distance. It was a non-issue on calm days
I have an 8.1 handicap, driver speed 98-100. Fitted into 70gram Fujikura shaft for my irons. This increased my peak height and angle of descent to 45-49%. My distances remained the same and I can hold a green very nicely. My swing is pretty smooth which I think allows this to work for me well. Worth taking a look at.
Because of my age and some physical problems I have been using a combination of senior and female shafts in my clubs for a few years now. I've found them to be beneficial, I use hybrids from 6 iron to 18 degrees. All my woods have senior shafts while my Irons from 7 to lob are light steel. Tom Wishon's books about the clubs you should be using are well worth a read. Park your ego for a more worthwhile game.
I play off 12, I recently changed my irons to 55 gram graphite shafts, it's the future in my opinion
I play senior flex shafts, so L flex is pretty much the same in terms of weight and torque. Recently I was looking for hybrids to replace my 4 and 5 irons, and came across Cobra F8's in ladies versions. The only difference is the shaft weight, flex and length of the club. This is right up my alley as the weight and length increments are just in line with my irons. And the L flex is ,well ,Senior flex! Going to get these , regrip them to my hand size, and see how they perform.
Interesting. Last week for fun I played with my old McGregor forged irons made in the 90s and are copies the ones Jack used to win the masters in the 80s. The are a heavier iron and stiff flex. I play ping G irons with the light Nippon 950 regular flex in them.
The ball flight was straighter and lower. I lost about one club distance but I was much more accurate. One of the first things I noticed it as easier to feel the club through the swing.
The numbers are great. Play them on the course.
I bought some nice used Nike VR irons. Unfortunately the D.G. S300's are likely the worst shafts for me to use,(ball flight too low).
Want to get proper light shafts and perhaps higher flight golf balls.
Good vid Andy👍
I've had similar results on the practice tee with softer equipment -- take it out on the golf course with a little pressure and say hello to the snap hooks.
I've had the same issue! To be fair, I slice my stiff 3 wood like a degenerate. Regular flex just makes me feel comfortable.
Some years ago I wanted a hybrid 6. The only one I could find was a ladies Ping 30 deg which I bought cheaply. I found it hard to control, but I did have my one and only hole in one with it. It has been languishing in my garage for many years, but I may give it another go now that I'm older and see if it works.
Two years late but you’re buying the pitcher
Can you get your hands on a set of Cobra superlite clubs in seniors flex? My guess is you would get similar results but with a more pleasing to the eye look.
I have had a lot of trouble throughout the years keeping my lead arm straight. I took some swings with my gf's clubs and lo and behold, a straight lead arm with properly loaded wrists!
The lie angle and length is a bit off for me but have so much more speed and can swing with such ease. Really interested in trying this out with a fitter.
i am 64 with some physical issues. i use a ladies driver and do well with it. i wish the butt end of "l" flex was the same as men's shafts. you really have to make adjustments to a new grip
I switched to regular flex shafts and started swinging easy at the ball... usually about 60-70%, if i really go after a ball, i might swing 75-80%. the lighter swing with the lighter flex shafts has yielded some surprising shots. i also picked up some lower compression balls and it's unreal how far the ball flies with little to no effort. i'm getting about 90% of old distance with much more control and no aching back after 18 holes.
Another great video! I think part of what often happens is that shaft flex is tied in to torque, and so softer flexes tend to have relatively high torque, making head control an issue. But increasingly we are seeing shafts that have softer flex (cpm) and low torque, and vice versa. There are now some "ladies" flex, low cpm shafts that have lower torque than, say, a stock tensei blue stiff shaft. I believe experiments like yours are the future!
Great vid Andy 👍 Lighter and shorter would help many a male player 🏌️
Club fitting with an open mind I say but you will need time of the range to try out what is best for you
Just got my second set of graphite shafts in Ap1 718 irons as they were on sale at local pro shop. I started golf 6 years ago and picked up a set of graphite irons from xxio when I started golf. They felt great. 2 years later I had my first iron fitting and was fitted into an Ap1 716 light steel shaft. They have served me well for the last 18 months. I did warn the fitter that I had lower back, hip and shoulder injuries from past sports and career accidents. He said I would be fine. What I did find that my right shoulder which had been reconstructed 7 years earlier began to ache and stiffen up. So in the back of my mind I was always going to go back to graphite shafts. On testing the new Ap1 718 with the graphite shafts my ball speed was up 5 mph, so the sale was done. They feel great. Thanks for the vid.
There are so many who swear by graphite once switched
@@TheAverageGolfer Very true Andy ,some of the prices are scary for quality graphite iron shafts though ,lets hope the prices come down .There are some very good light weight steel iron shafts now too in all flexes ,technology has never been better in golf .
I've got graphite shafts in my mizuno mp58's. The shafts are 57 gram and are senior flex. I'm a 49 year old plasterer and have been playing since I was 10. I play off of 6. To be honest I don't think I've hit my irons so well since I bit the bullet and put the senior flex shafts in. It certainly helps to swing with a better tempo. Great video and certainly food for thought. Whatever works best for your swing👍
Great feedback Jason thxs
Believer in Lite and Ultra lite shafts for Seniors uus a 40g in my Rouge
Glad you did this video. After struggling to hit a half decent hybrid I tested a ladies one out and it felt great. I've now got a 3 HL (High Loft) Nike hybrid coming in the post and i can't wait to try it out. If it works for you who cares 🙂
I'm currently rocking a Adams ladies 6 Hybrid and love it
Also using ladies golf balls
Good on you Charles, play what works
I’ve only just started playing golf Infact I’m only playing first 9 holes next week but I’ve been to a range 3x now but I bought some cheap second hand clubs I only spent £90 on them so they are older clubs but I noticed one of the irons the 6 iron is graphite shafted and the others all steel and the 6 iron is so much lighter and with my slow swing speed I prefer it I wish all mine were graphite to be lighter.
I'm 71, still swing in the 90s and play ladys shafts with a shortened tip, on some woods, senior flex on my driver with a half inch removed off the tip and regular graphite in my irons with tip modifications. I hit strait and fairly long for my age. The thing I noticed more than anything is my ability to shape my shots. Took a lot of money and effort to get the right combination but I'm still money ahead compared to a fitting and high end clubs. Was more fun and educational. I have 3 sets of clubs for the price of one expensive one. Why? I leave a set at my vacation home, a 11 club set on my pull cart and a full set for a regular cart. Play them all the same. One thing I noticed recently is, I hit a new callaway driver with a stiff shaft just to try it and hit 30 yards straighter and longer than it's 60 year old arrogant owner. I can also play my wife's lady's clubs with the same result. If you have a decent swing, you should be able to play anything.
I played a few years ago with friends clubs he’s 3 degrees flat I’m 2 degrees upright, he’s soft regular and I swing the driver around 98mph and I had the best round of my lift 😯
Played 85g regular graphite shafts for years, then got fitted for 115g 5.5 steel shafts. Game has been transformed - better ball flight, better dispersion, better distance. What’s the takeaway - get fitted and one shaft doesn’t fit all. Lighter isn’t always better!
Hi Andy. I’m 5’5’. Would a ladies set be more suited to me? I’m looking to buy my first set. Thanks
I'm 77yrs old ss wii driver 78 mph. Would the lighter ladies irons and driver help? I'm currently hitting m6 irons, but not consistent.I would appreciate your opinion. Thanks
I use a ladies Yonex XPS driver which I bought in desperation after years of struggle hitting a host of men’s drivers. It’s improved my game so much. In fact it’s now my most consistent club. I had to buy online because my local American golf laughed at me when I asked to try a ladies driver in store. Usual macho bullsh*t that seems to be engrained in golf
My lad bought a set of ladies, on the range I hit them straighter and longer than my own clubs, not had a round yet but am looking forward to one soon.
I think clubs in general are too long for almost all men, and for many of us guys who can't swing fast (or don't want to) the shorter, lighter shafts are far more appropriate than what we have. Change the grips and the colors and some company might sell a helluva lot of clubs.
Very good points Kim
I'm 77 yrs old driver ss 77 mph would ladies irons and driver help ? What u think my man. I'm hitting m6 irons now, but not so good. I would appreciate your opinion. Thanks
I've got a ladies 5 hybrid in my bag, it's been there for over a year.
Why? Because I couldn't find the mens one for a reasonable price within the UK.
Any cons? No significant ones. Looks the same, the only difference is the grip is a little small. Still hits the same distance.
I preordered the G LE2 driver for my wife. I’ll have to try it, although I got her the ultra light shaft.
Would be interested to now your thoughts
If manufacturers would label their L flex shafts as Stiff, they’d sell millions.
Just wonderful, I been tryin to find out about "12 handicap golfer" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Tonayden Senadelyn Remedy - (search on google ) ? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my brother in law got cool success with it.
Simple solution....try XXIO clubs....I have the XXIO 9 model in driver, hybrid, and irons. Men's regular shaft graphite weighing 54-57 grams. Easy to swing, quality clubs made in Japan. They're expensive because they are the No. 1 seller there 18 years running and everything is made in house, heads, shaft, grip all made together in one place. Not made for fast swingers, though...I'm around 87 with the driver. I got my clubs used, if you look around you can find a good deal. I'm 6'4 270lbs.........I can hit anything, these help me play better, simple as that.
Very interesting. Awesome video!
Found this in my quest to find out if I am doing myself a disservice by using my hand me down driver from my grandfather. I love the idea of using it, but in my lesson yesterday I felt like it might just realistically be too heavy. Do I need to break down and spend the cash on a nicer women’s driver? Too much flex in the driver that came with my beginners set.
This test is great if your club head speed is low. I have 95 mph club head speed for 7i and 125 for my driver. I was recently fitted with new clubs and apparently the old clubs I was using were completely wrong for my speed. The pro set me up correctly and my dispersion level greatly decreased.
Lou Torres he mentions it slows down your tempo. Swing speed isn’t the end all be all for flex fitting.
I recently was thinking about getting a ladies hi loft driver head (13-14*) on a 3 WD shaft to try to make a fairway finder... Like a oversized 2/3 wood. Loft and shorter shaft, but still big forgiving head... Sounds good no?
I think Callaway make 14° heads in the Rouge and Flash driver range.
Forgot to ask, how are the GFore shoes?
19 degree three wood? That is a 5 wood loft. I have a Cobra Fly Z 5 wood with a seniors flex shaft ( it was cheap) where I am at the regular/ stiff flex swing speed category. I can hit that 5 wood a mile!
Compare it to Cobra F Max Superlite !
I have 110mph driver swing and I play graphite’s in all my clubs including wedges.
To me they just feel better.
Put ur ego aside and just do what is best for YOUR game.... graphite shafts have come on so much in last ten years, don’t just reach for the steel shafts just Cos that’s what pro’s use. Won’t be long and your pro’s will have graphite’s too.
For those that care, I use the UST recoil Es 780 smacwrap shaft in irons and hybrids.
Great feedback Fergus, thanks for your input
I don't know Andy. I'm just not seeing you and I in a skirt and blouse with our hairstyle. Seriously though I have always thought swing lighter is a great way to improve tempo and strike.
Playing ladies clubs is a perfectly good idea if you don't have club speed ,not a good idea if you do .Playing the right shaft is a must I think I 100% agree on that one ,I've just been for an iron fitting and got rid of the true temper s300 and 400's ,personally I think they have been a bad fit for me for ages ,gone to K B S c taper lites 115 in x , with the mizuno 919 tour on the other end, these feel so smooth with a great ball flight and my bad elbow has thanked me for it .My Mrs plays Ping with a bag full of rescue clubs and the longest iron is a 7 ,think I might suggest we swap clubs for a round and see what happens .
Mike Best. Emily Klein won two British Opens with a Ping 7 iron as her longest iron .
@@Struieboy I'm sure Emily Klein would beat me if she only used a 7 iron
What a great video. About a year ago I started playing golf after a ten year break. I used my wife’s Ping ISi driver which is about 15 years old. I’ve never felt more comfortable with a driver. Later I got my own driver, a Callaway Rogue with a very light shaft and new irons with a Nippon Zelos 7 shaft, a very girly light steel shaft. I’m very happy with my game. Ps. I’m 70 and haven’t lost that much distance. I would recommend trying a driver or fairway wood; the lightness pays dividends.
Didn’t Colin Montgomerie play with ladies flex shafts because they suited his tempo? I’d play with baby flex shafts if they helped me shoot a better number and gave me a better ball flight.
Watched a video the other day with Louis (the South African bloke - wont try to get his surname) and he kept saying when he started playing at a young age he was told to work on rythmn and tempo...you see his swing and Big Ernie...there must be something in that...great video by the way Andy
Good video that isn't it. Louis Oosthuizen... a round with Radar.
A woman's driver is shorter than a mans. For many a man the control would be enhanced with a shorter shaft. More power too. I am not surprised you got great results doing this. I really enjoyed this video review. Great idea on this Andy ! Spider Dubiel
As ever Andy, you raise a very interesting topic, more loft less weight would help many men of a certain age.
I'm just rifling through MrsBandits wardrobe for my outfit for tomorrows Game, just thought that I might as well go the whole hog! I'm sure that nobody will notice....but do I have to shave my legs as well? LOL
Very interesting vlog Andy. Just goes to show how fixated we can become on "mens" "ladies" clubs. If it works how cares in my opinion.
What about comparing balls next.......is there a difference between mens and ladies?
nick fewings I know a lot of men were using the women’s Precept Lady ball but didn’t like the word Lady on the ball. The company developed the Laddie .Same ball, it just has a more durable cover.
@@earthart2010 Thanks for the information. Will have a look at these. I play Wilson Staff Duo soft at the moment
nick fewings I like the Wilson duo also but the precept is probably my favorite. The price on the Laddie is also very good.
@@earthart2010 Am going to give the Laddie a go once I have used the Duo's
Light weight I get, but what about the flex? If a guy wanted to Mimic a ladies club he would have to go lighter as well as more flex right ?
Yes a big help for seniors,,😅😂🤗
Not to jump on a wagon and with custom fit becoming common just go to pure weight numbers and flex, loft etc. Seems more of a marketing thing with colours, suspect a lot of ladies that get custom fit are best of with "mens clubs".
Where are the dispersions??
Whatever gets the job done to shoot lower scores is what I’d go with!
Is it just shaft? Are there other differences between the ladies club head and mens that could explain this? 👍 ☺
David Hargreaves oh cmon. Lmao. 80 percent? Not sure what kind of golfers you play with.
It also helps that the shafts are shorter, increasing accuracy.
I played my first 2 years with steel irons got a set of graphite shafted played all spring summer and fall and they are lighter but it doesnt feel like you control the club head. Went back to the steel irons last couple weeks and my shots are definitely more accurate
I once bought a set of graphite iron called sunridge I think, played with them for years then PX them for steel shaft mizuno t zoid and was told they where ladies clubs!!! Now at 70 with a swing speed measurable only with a calendar, need a little help. Will be considering lighter shafts so why not ladies?
I'm 5'8" and women's clubs work well with me; control is great and my swing speed is from 84 to 89. I know my height, I should use men's standard, but, to me they are too long and I hit fat shots with them
What I think you missed is putting those numbers vs your clubs.
The best test is a round on a windy cold day.
If you knew how to pivot it would help stop your over the top move and you wouldn't have to rely on fiddling with equipment.
You should shoot a round of golf and see how the ladies clubs play in comparison to your sets of clubs
I am crooked on you, you have let the cat out of the bag! I have been gaming second hand women’s clubs for a couple of years, handicap dropped 4 shots GA. You are going to make them more expensive.
Facing another rotator cuff surgery......spinal disc probs......bone spurs in multiple places......peripheral neuropathy.......yep, standard old guy stuff. Those lightweight clubs and easier swings look rather interesting to me, lol!
Andy we guys are suffering from egos , unless we are playing stiff or x stiff we feel less of a man , the truth is the average guy should be looking at the lpga clubs and set ups , most guys don’t even swing as fast as the female tour pros , so why do we want to try and struggle with shafts we see the male tour pros using , if you really wanted to lower scores we would undoubtedly be better off with regular or lighter shafts , and swing at it less, we try and smash it and lose feel and control of the swing , everyone’s practice swing is perfect for two reasons , there is no feeling of swing speed and no ball to focus on smashing, the tour guys are not swinging 100% if you asked them it would probably be around 85-90% they know their limits before they see deviations in accuracy and efficiency . Weekend hackers are just trying to out do their mates off the tees . It’s all false expectancy , if you hit a 7 iron 145 yards every time dead straight , you wouldn’t be happy because we hear the average is 175 to 180 yards, so we want more , yet ironically golf is a game where the best at distance control and consistency in striking are the winners . Everyone is different , swings/ tempo ability to repeatedly hit out the center , there has never been more access to club fitting than in recent years with all the launch monitors and equipment , getting fit is the key. Leave your ego outside and just use what help you score better. Great video Andy as always keep up the great work.
is not this was the TS1 is all about?
in what sense, light shafts?
@@TheAverageGolfer yes and the grip...dont know about the clubhead
I carry an 18 degree 4 wood as my fairway club. Each of us should play the correct club for us and not be confined by gender. Many ladies should play stiffer, heavier clubs if they are best for them.
I knocked up my own type of rescue club ,bought an old 5 wood Aldila voodoo shaft off eBay and stuck a Wilson Deep red 21 degree 7 wood head on it ,fantastic go to club ,I hate rescue clubs and struggle with them ,this is great for me and cost bugger all really .Cant beat the 7 wood ,people take the piss but change their minds when they have a go with it .
Colour scheme ?
It can be the difference between swinging and hacking...
Should men play within women's golf balls as the average men's golf swing speed is about the same as the pro women's swing speed ???
Mostly, there isn't enough difference between women's and seniors to matter.
You've got to get the correct shafts for your swing speed and not try to be macho with stiff shafts that don't suit
so true David
Couple of things stood out for me
1. Those irons are seriously good, that is one of the best spin rates you have got.
2. I have never considered a 6 hybrid, I will now!
I think for the driver the length of the shaft was the big issue, most men's drivers are 45-45.5" long. I have mine shortened to 44.5" and saw a big improvement in quality of strike and consistency.
Going for a lighter weight shaft is interesting. You definitely swing faster. I have gone heavier in my iron shafts (+15 g compared to old shafts) to make me smoother. The reality with shafts is not to be frightened to try, as Crossfield and TXT have shown most of the "science" of golf shafts is marketing BS. The right shaft is the one that works best for you...it might light weight or a ladies flex, so what
Have to agree with all you say here Justin
I'm 72 years old and have been using a womens driver for 3 years with much success
Send them to Fried eggs Golf so ace can give them a try
still get tree fiddy out of these
Lol 😂
Ace is unreal, best golfer in the world!
Come on guys you’ll all be wearing skirts next for the airflow. 😂
I tell you what, if it took 20 strokes off my game i'd be prancing around like a fairy without a care in damn world.
OMG! I have never seen such insecure men ever! Wearing skirts comment. Shaving legs comment. You guys no doubt are the same ones that drive those big freaking pick-up trucks to compensate for your tiny wieners. Stop being a bunch of insecure pussies and get the right shaft for your game.
This is glorious, been searching for "lower your golf handicap rules" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Tonayden Senadelyn Remedy - (search on google ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my work buddy got amazing success with it.
I cahn't unnerstand a word this bloke is speaking!
Fred Couples played a ladies shaft in his three wood for years,,,,,,,
Seems a go idea Andy , I think its an ego thing with a lot of men .
its an issue alright
No wonder those women are shooting 10 under in the first round every other week. If only I'd known that I didn't need stiff.
Don't forget... all of the heads on a ladies set are also lighter. Not just the shaft. So using an ultra lght shaft in a mens club head will not work due to too much of a change is swing weight. Also every one of those shafts were shorter, and you hit the irons farther than your own. You just lost distance in the woods. Looks to me like golf companies need to rethink how they build clubs, and stop building them to pros specs for amateurs to play. Lighten the heads and use lighter shafts, and shorten them ALL at least an inch to 1 1/2" in length, and we will all find more fairways and hit our irons more precise. I swing my driver between 94 and 87 MPH and I am 58. I do find ALL of my irons feel like I am swinging lead, and cannot get much more than 74MPH from a 7 iron. So maybe I need to find myself a good set of women's irons. Hey, if I can beat the others, i don't care who they are made for. Its the science behind them that make them work for different people. Thanks for making this video. I would have never thought of trying womens clubs before, but now, looks like next spring I will have to do some research and see what works best no matter who they are made for.
pickin4you I might be doing the same. Time for some eBay shopping. 😁
I can't think a day I would not be playing with women's golf clubs. Real men play pink.
If I played these would I need to swap my post round pint of lager for a babycham? 😂 😂 😂
it turns out that inanimate objects don't care about the sex of the person using it.
Waht the fcuk did that guy jsut try to say? In English, if you please.
So, the battle of the sexes is biased by the fact that the ladies get the better stuff! Bottom line: (ultra) light shafts for seniors.
This dude couldn't win a Nickle ($.05) on any professional tour. Including the LPGA!
Thats cos that dude is a 9 handicap golfer ya pleb
